#5 - Carnival

[He'd spent a few hours at the Carnival.  Those few hours turned into an entire day of trying to keep people out of the Freak Show and off the rides.  The drones didn't listen at all.]

There is definitely something wrong with that Carnival!  I've never seen--

Nobody should go to it.  Again, nobody should visit the Carnival.  Please don't!

[It's very easy to hear that he's frustrated and basically disturbed by all of it.]

[Action] - Mayfield Police

[He'll go to the police station.  If there is another police officer there, he will ask them to help him.  If not, he'll leave.]

002 | Aoko Nakamori
{{ →!Action | In Front of the Police Station | Early Morning }}

[ Aoko was never known for being able to recognize danger as usually she tried to make friends with it. However, seeing that lady standing over her drone!dad looking as fierce as she had left little room for Aoko to recognize the situation as anything but dangerous. As a result she collected her drone brother with some difficulty as he didn't want to leave his mommy and carried him off to the police station. She hadn't even realized yet that she was still in her night clothes as she pounded on the entrance door. ]

[ Her first thought had been to run to Hakuba's house but she realized this was a little different than a case and in fear of endangering him she found herself here, at the police station. The one place she should have been able to trust the most. ]

P-please open up! I need to speak to an officer! Please!

[ She's got a tight hold on her drone brother's hand so he can't run off back home to that woman he was insisting was his mother. ]

{{ →!Action | John Doe Park | Late morning }}

[ Aoko is just sitting on a bench with her head in her hands. She's still undoubtedly in a night dress but she really doesn't want to go back to that house and she doesn't have money on her to get more clothes. Her drone brother has informed her several times that it's indecent to be seen out of the house in her night clothes and Aoko has waved it off every time. Better to be indecent than dead right? ]

[ The Drone boy is just sitting next to his 'sister' and watching her about like any small boy would watch his sister while she was doing something embarrassing. At least she managed to convince him not to go back there. ]

((ooc: takes place after this. She's having a bad morning.))

Case File One: Where am I?
Action for housemates )

. Trying to dial 911, though she's been told the phones don't work like that.]

Hello. This is Special Agent Clarice Starling of the FBI. I need to get in touch with the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia.

Failing that, and these phones actually don't work normally. Anyone who knows where I am. And what's going on, would be very much appreciated.

[A pause because even if she thinks it's highly unlikely.]

Doctor Lecter. If you're responsible for this. ...alright you've had your laugh. Now I'd like an explanation.

[A. Well you know the drill. A confused woman is looking around town, trying to find a way out.]

[B. Walking into the Police station. Well where else would she end up?]

Excuse me. Is anyone here?

[C. Well probably trying to buy a gun. Trying and failing. If you're nearby she'll walk over. He said she doesn't need one. Bull.]

Excuse me, you wouldn't happen to know why they won't sell a gun to me, would you?

#4 - Regain
The first disappointment came when he got a package in the mail that was much too small to hold John.  Keith knew it couldn't possibly be his friend, not unless something disastrous had happened, so he took it into the house before carefully opening it in the living room.  After digging through packaging peanuts, he finally holds a photograph of white clouds in a perfect blue sky  It felt a bit cruel, and he gave a long sigh, exasperated.

And then the lamp crashed into the wall, right at that moment.  A few startled blinks later, he'd blown out a few windows in the front room in a fit of exuberance.

. . . that was a mistake!  He'd be sure to fix them first thing tomorrow.  But he had his powers back. ]

[The second disappointment was the next morning, when Aoife kissed him good-morning.  Then she asked him what he wanted for breakfast.  After asking for a fried egg while half-asleep, he sat up worriedly, rubbing the sleep from his eyes.  She never asked him what he wanted for breakfast.

It looked like Aoife, but it wasn't her.  She'd been droned.  He'd run a hand under the pillows of the bed to make sure, and there wasn't an axe or blade left behind.]

A -- 919 Bilko Blvd - Action for housemates

[Right now, as it was his day off, Keith is in the living room.  He's going to perform a little test, namely, how the windows manage to perfectly repair themselves overnight after he shattered them the day before.  And that's why he's popping out a few front windows with his powers, intending to stay up all night to watch them fix themselves.

Housemates and neighbors, feel free to ask what is going on.  The breaking glass is definitely loud.]

B.  - The Park - open to all

[So much for his plan, after accidentally falling asleep, he'd hurried downstairs and laid a hand on the cool glass of a perfectly repaired window.  It really was something.  He was pretty sure, though, that he was more bothered by it than amazed.

It was a bit lonely in the house at night.  Mamizou was good company, but not wanting to wake her he'll leave the house and go to the park.

And then he'll really start using his powers.  If the windows were a good indication, he didn't have to worry too much about damaging the park.  It would be fine in a day or so, Keith thought.  He'll use a gust of air and his own power to get himself about 5-6 feet in the air, a subtle blue glow enveloping his body, and then he'll let those garbage cans have it.  Happily, he'll send one soaring high into the air, then another, and another, holding them there.

This early, he had little worry about being seen.  It is loud, though.  He'll stop after only about 15 minutes, satisfied.  He could really use his jetpack.]

C.  Mayfield Police Station - the next morning - open to anybody and co-workers

[He had office work today.  Although he missed being out meeting new people and trying to answer their questions - with answers he, himself, found sadly inadequate - today was an office day.  He was by himself, at the moment, so Keith plays a little game.  After folding a sharp-looking paper airplane, he's using just his fingers to send it short puffs of air, keeping it aloft and turning it slowly through the office.  It was a good way to practice some focus, some control, though he'd done it so often by now since he learned he was a NEXT that he hardly had to think about it.

It wasn't as if he wanted to do any paperwork, but he also wasn't sure what to do.  If a co-worker shows up, he told himself, he'll ask for their help with this filing right away.  It wasn't good to be idle.]

30 March 2012 @ 01:58 pm
[ This morning, Keith was woken up from a blissful sleep by a ringing phone asking him why he wasn't at work.  After double-checking that he was still in Mayfield, and double-checking that he was still without his powers, he'll reply.]

I'm sorry, but . . . what?

[And get an ear-full, possibly a few threats.  But Keith was a patient man, and eventually he got the message that he was expected at the police station.

Still . . .he just wasn't sure why.]

A - Mayfield Police Station

[The answer comes to him when he's staring at a desk with a name-plate on it.

Officer Goodman.

There's also a metal foot-locker on the desk with his name on it, containing a full uniform, a pistol and holster - and a badge.

Officer Goodman.

It wasn't as though he weren't qualified for it; he was, most likely.  He was even happy to serve, and he got happier the more he thought of all the people he could help!  But there was still a very small and very confused part of Keith that was hoping he would wake up at home after going to a bar with Tiger, Fire Emblem, or Bison and this was all a strange dream.]

I don't remember applying for this job at all.  But I also don't remember coming here at all, not one bit. . .

[He's mostly talking to himself.  He could probably use a little help.]

B - Mayfield Elementary School

[Oh no!  That was really unsafe!  Little kids crossing the street all by themselves with no adults in sight!  This road was so busy, there was probably a car driving down it right this minute --

--it was probably just a few miles away, is all.  Nevermind, he's just going to make sure that all the little ones get across the street safely.  Extremely friendly Officer Goodman will just be stopping any kids before they go out into the street and making sure it's safe for them to cross.  Are you going to listen?  Are you driving?  Are you going to stop?  ]

C - Anywhere in Mayfield

[Okay, well, patrol.  That was something he knew how to do!  Sure, he'd patrolled from the skies, but Keith was not one to be defeated by the details.  You might catch him in the patrol car, walking about, or maybe writing a ticket.  Have a concern?]

14 March 2012 @ 12:35 am
First Trial [March 14th]
[Outside of MacCready & Sons Law Office]

[Just as you walk down the road, content with your day (or maybe not?), comes a girl being escorted out of the law office building by an old drone. She is making quite the fuss.]

I can't believe you - this cannot be legal. To deny me a job at your office just because I am a woman is - [The drone closes the door and leaves her outside] - hey don't you shut the door on me, I was talking to you!

[And then Tsubaki attempts to open the door, only to find that there is no way to turn the knob. It's been locked from the inside.]

[Outside the Police Station]

[Later on, Tsubaki is going to try again to find a job in Mayfield. This time, she's going to the police station. ...Except the station is closed, even though it so obviously must have people in it. Tsubaki is outside this building right now, banging on the door with all her fury. And she isn't going to stop, even though it seems like no one is letting her inside. What a damn joke.]

Please, I ask you let me in! I want to speak with an officier about a job! What sort of station does not keep their door open to the public?!

[She pauses, thinking for a moment she sees someone inside. But when nothing happens after a few moments, she begins slamming her fist against it again and resumes her shouts.]

I will not be ignored like this. What sort of "people of the public" are you?! OPEN UP!!

[And she'll keep banging for a while, unless someone stops her. After that she will just be outside in a huff, visibly frustrated. Someone is having their first hours in Mayfield today.]

This place is absurd. Not only am I suddenly trapped here, but I was denied twice today a job serving the greater good because of my gender. How does anyone stand being discriminated against so flagrantly!? I could -- would be a great police officer or justice attorney, and I was denied from both!

[She pauses for a moment and then softly groans.]

I feel like I'm getting a headache. ...Actually, I have a question. What year is it? I feel as though I'm in the past, but I don't know how far back. Is it still in the 2000's? [The woes of coming from the year 2200...] Well, I guess it doesn't really matter, I just wanted to know because today--

Forget it. I'm getting a cake no matter what the cost in this era!

[Happy Birthday Tsubaki Yayoi, we got you a trip to Mayfield.]

 A - 919 Bilko Blvd - for housemates

[Keith was an early riser, not out of any real joy in being up in the morning, but out of necessity.  There was training to do, and John to walk, breakfast to eat and people to meet with.  He just couldn't afford to linger in bed.

Which is why, when he wakes up and sees an unfamiliar clock next to an unfamiliar bed, and it's already past 8AM, he's wondering what happened.  He definitely remembered going to sleep last night in his apartment, definitely, but he's not there anymore.

So he'll turn, reaching over for what should be John, but instead is a woman he has never seen before in his life.  His hand is resting on her hip, and he'll freeze, at a loss for words.]

B - The Police station

[Once he's managed to get the short version of Mayfield, he's more than worried about where John could be and who is taking care of him.  He really needs to get out of here, so he'll go to the only place he can think of that might be useful.  ]

C.  Anywhere in town

[Clad in the only clothes he could get a hold of quickly, a bright blue tracksuit, and frustrated about his lack of NEXT powers, Keith will be sadly walking the streets of Mayfield while carrying an armful of papers.  If someone were to pass him, he'll be handing them one of the papers, which turns out to be a flier.]

Golden Retriever

named JOHN

Please return to

Keith Goodman

919 BILKO Blvd

I'm sorry, really, I'm very sorry to bother you.

But if you see him, you'll know his name is John by his collar!  He's my best friend.

[Later, he can be found looking a bit discouraged in John Doe Park.  He's sitting on a bench with the papers stacked next to him, shoulders slumped.]

D.  [Phone]

I'm sorry to interrupt anybody on the phone, really I am, but I'm really confused about what is going on here.  Is this for Hero TV?  Is this something the sponsors or Miss Joubert came up with?  I really don't think it's possible that I could forget about getting married, so this can't actually be real, can it?

Is anyone there?  I keep trying the numbers I know and it isn't working.

E.  [Phone]

I found a strange animal in the park!  Is anybody missing a creature with a long, flat nose, and a long flat tail?  His name is Perry Doofenshmirtz.  [He slaughters the last name, though.]

thirty | decimate to resuscitate
 Action; Downtown Mayfield

[Under most circumstances, working in alliance with one of Mayfield's own would have been out of the question. Certainly Jack Smith was no friend, but perhaps he wasn't an enemy, either. Believing in his phone call may be stupid, but at this time Slugger has little to believe in anymore. If all he had to do was impart tremendous damage long enough to allow Smith to restore the revival system, Slugger would gladly oblige. Anything to bring back his best friend and his mother.

On a street corner in downtown Mayfield stands a boy facing a world with no rules. His gaze is set to the west where a row of shops and businesses line the street leading up to the police station several blocks away. This is where he will begin, consequences be damned. If he discovered later that Jack Smith had lied, he would come for Jack Smith.

Soon, the boy begins to grow tall, wide and monstrous, until his body erupts into a dark mass, thick and muddy and still growing. Larger and larger it becomes, reaching the size of a house in short time. Black, nebulous arms reach for the nearest building, latching onto the walls before rolling over and slowly crushing the structure beneath its weight. Glass, metal, concrete --- all succumb to utter demolition. A large explosion may be heard, muted under the pressure surrounding it. Once the first building has been reduced to a flattened heap of smoldering rubbish, the darkness simply rolls onward without stop to the one immediately beside it.]

Action; Police Station

[Outside the police station, the earth rumbles as impending destruction comes its way. The nearest building has been slowly enveloped and crushed beneath the relentless mass of darkness. Ignoring traffic, it crosses the street like a tsunami in slow motion, pushing vehicles and debris with it as it crawls toward its intended target...]
14 January 2012 @ 09:43 pm

This is Officer Doctor reporting in with a special announcement. Ah, blimey, my head.

Right, so alwarmy-warmy sounds, not just me then, I suppose. Definitely coming from the dairy, but it's completely shut off; nothing new. And yes! We've lost... three days. It's all very curious, and rather... alarming. Ha, alarming see what I did, alarming and the alarms...

Erm, right. So I suppose my job as police officer and generally knowledgeable and responsible adult is to assure everyone that there's nothing to panic about and everything is going to be fine. Like the always say on the news, but you know they're just trying to keep it together. So generally, just lie as all adults do.

Well, of course there is going to be something to panic about later, but as for now we're likely alright. The calm before the storm, the quiet before the noise, the tea before the aunt's miserable and hard biscuits. ...Okay, that last one was rubbish, forget it.

So here goes; "everything is going to be fine, the alarms are just... well, I have no idea, but things are going to be fine."

There, how's that for comfort? Besides if anything else does get worse, I suppose I'll be talking to you lot again as I always do. Until then, I'd suggest investing in a pair of earmuffs if the sound is bothering. They're quite cozy and fashionable!

Oh, and if any of you are new and thinking "Oh, perhaps I'll just pop over to the police station when things go badly, this Officer Doctor bloke is there and he seems clever and helpful", well... you're entirely right about that. But! Honestly. Avoid the police station.

Right, duties filled. Doctor, out. Ha! I've always wanted to say that

[Action-The Police Station.]

[Since the Doctor's filled his duties with that announcement, he's going to take a nap. AKA do what he does every day at the bloody boring police office. And he's going to be wearing his super cool earmuffs to block out any sound from the alarms.

He's currently sleeping with his head in his arms at his desk. Feel free to ignore his warnings and pop in for a visit. Or if you're a coworker... feel free to draw on his face.]

[Action-Around Town.]

[Okay, so announcements are evidently not enough to qualify as doing your job. So the Doctor is out on patrol. You'll see the police cruiser parked in various spots around town. But it's not just the Doctor. He's got a partner, a certain nazi cyborg. With the Doctor being tall and skinny as he is and the Major being short and fat, they're almost a stereotypical comic duo.

The Doctor really doesn't look pleased about it. In fact, he's leaning against the cruiser with his arms crossed and a scowl on his face.]

...This is rubbish. Patrolling? Patrolling what? More like 'sitting around in the cold with your least favorite coworker doing nothing' is more like it. Honestly, don't you have anything better to do.

((ooc; if you choose the 'action-around town' option the order will go you->the doctor->the major))
