DEPLOYMENT 15: Be the Other Walking Nuke
![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
[... Until he realizes that his grumble sounds rather bird-like.]
[And his field of vision is ... considerably wider than normal.]
[He raises up, and cranes his head around to discover that ... he's covered in feathers. Black, iridescent feathers—]
AWK!
[Were he still in his human body, Balin might have lept out of bed and reached for his sidearm ... but he's no longer Balin Wilbur. He's now Utsuho Reiuji—and considering this is the man-eating town-burning youkai he'd fought with not long ago, he's taking this predicament far worse than he might have if he were swapped with someone else.]
[So instead, the hell raven that has been spending most of the past few weeks sleeping peacefully in that box, courtesy of Virginia, is now having a night fright. It squawks in distress, its wings flap haphazardly as it tries to escape the box, crashing into one thing or another. The real Utsuho has had a lot of practice shifting between her raven and humanoid youkai forms, so much so that it doesn't require much thought to trigger the switch. Balin's panicky thoughts of wondering what happened to his human body are enough to trigger the transformation—which, for someone who never wanted to be a Polymorphing Spy, is a highly uncomfortable and horrifying sensation.]
What—WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?!
[That yell is loud enough to be heard throughout the house, easily.]
[Sometimes you might see "Utsuho" looking down at "her" chest and muttering or even angrily talking out loud. Like "she's" arguing with someone.]
Hey! I'm not a mutt! What's the big idea—
["Utsuho" just tried to enter a store and got pushed out by a drone armed with a broom. With one last shove, "she" stumbles out the door. As the drone slams the door shut, "Utsuho" turns around to look back at the store with "her" hands on "her" hips.]
—Dammit, every store is doing this to me!
[Ah, the joys of finding out Mayfield considers you a "pet."]
[Flying with wings is a learned skill, though, even for birds—and having never been a bird before, Balin is clumsily trying to imitate what he's seen the real Utsuho and other, normal birds do with their wings. Instead, "Utsuho" ends up flailing "her" wings much like a Killdeer faking a broken wing. Sometimes "she's" lucky with a jump and gets airborne for a few seconds, "her" wings fluttering spastically before "she" falls back down. And "she's" not too graceful about that, either.]
[Up at Makeout Point, "Utsuho" is armed with "her" control rod, and judging from the light show and miniature suns over there, "she's" practicing with "her" powers. Yet unlike her murderous rampage back in March, "she" seems to be taking to aim up at the sky, away from Mayfield. "She's" even trying to avoid setting any trees on fire.]
[But it doesn't look like "she" has a good handle on it, because there are stray fireballs every once in a while.]
A
[Oh don't worry, Balin, you're right there! And sitting up in the bed an staring at the new Utsuho-shaped floor decoration because there was no way not to hear all that yelling.
And staring.
And staaaaaring.
And with a look that wordlessly could well have said "fuck this bullshit", whoever was in Balin's body went back to sleep.]
1/2
What—but that's—
2/2
Who the fuck are you and why do you have my body?!
no subject
[Balin seems to have put a pillow over his face--though he can still hear that voice.]
Why do you have mine?
[...oh, well. That didn't stay a mystery for long.]
no subject
How—how should I know?! I didn't do anything!

-That beam was good enough for her as a beacon to find him. Having put two and two together herself, she made it a mission to find her 'family'. Caesar was easy enough, and now finally...-
Finally found you... You'd think you'd be easier to find in a body like that...
no subject
Huh—?
[... Oops. "She" winds up raising "her" control rod as she says that, causing it to sling a fireball back behind her.]
Shit—watch out!
[It's actually not going to hit anything, since it's flying upwards, but it'll sail overhead "Ambrosia" by a good meter or so.]
no subject
... You're usually a better shot than this, Balin.
no subject
This—this isn't like firing a gun. That much I've learned.
[In Utsuho's body, Balin's Philadelphian accent is a lot more subtle. But she definitely sounds like she should be from the Northeast rather than Japan.]

[Bazett, in Sakura's body, stops in her tracks. This is the crow demon that terrorized the town weeks ago. However, she seems to be calmer now.]
[She cups her hands around her mouth and calls to the flying figure.]
Excuse me, but could you please tell me what you are planning to do?

Yoshika has forgotten mostly about it, except the vague memories of the sensations of what being burned alive smelled and sounded like. One of the benefits to being able to feel pain but not understand it.
But she DOES comprehend death and she was particularly inconvenienced when she was resurrected... ]
[ So yeah. Yelling and pointing a sword she doesn't know how to use. ] Hey!!! Youuuu need to be careful with that stuff! People could get hurt!!!
no subject
[But is "she" really? Because that plasma beam looks ike it came real close to setting a nearby tree on fire.]
Shit!
no subject
Real intimidating, Yoshika. ] Aaaaah!
[ Yeah, see, when you're not used to feeling pain and you're in a body that already has weird sensitivity, you should really be careful. ]
[ She'll be with you in a minute, hell raven. ]
no subject
[And she keeps on staring.]

birdgirl stumbles into him. Normally he'd be able to stay upright, but this time...]Hey! [Nope, he's crashing to the ground! Not that it hurts. There are some perks to being a robot, after all.] Watch where you're going!

[LATER IN THE DAY]
[Someone is up and about!
...and has their head in the freezer.
It's soothing in here, okay.]
no subject
["She" was expecting to find "Balin" still conked out on the bed, considering how hard "she" threw that pillow at "him."]
[So "she's" a bit surprised to find "Balin" currently lounging around with "his" head in the freezer.]
... Um ... Are—are you feeling better?
no subject
[Not!Balin doesn't move for a bit--but when he does, he pulls an...arm out of the freezer in addition to his head.]
