{ACTION} Mayfield Elementary; before class
[Despite seeing and hearing some things he didn't want to encounter during the trip into the void, Czeslaw has been attending school without missing a day. Dressed in a white shirt with a tie (fixed to be straight by his drone mother) and jacket but missing his usual hat, Czes makes his way on campus, arriving a little bit early.

He bumps shoulders with people sometimes, uttering a small "sorry" whenever he does. But if he sees a face he recognizes, he looks up with the best smile he could plaster on his face.]

Hi... good morning! How's it going?

{ACTION} Stone Street; afternoon
[Czeslaw received something in the mail after coming home from school. It was just an envelope with a card inside, but what's important to Czes is what is dran on the card. It's a two-panel comic, a simple picture of a human with a wound in the first panel; the human's wound is healed in the second. He looks at it for a couple of seconds before he pales and nearly drops it, turning white and running inside the house.]

Firo! Hey Firo, can I talk to you?

[First he calls Firo, because this is the guy he was living with back home. First he's got to call Firo and see if he's still alive and around, and tell him what happened. He already tried to see if the mail wasn't joking, and sure enough it was real. The cut on his lip he bit down on it earlier healed in seconds.]

Not over the phone, though -- I can come to to your house or meet you anywhere, but I need to talk to you!

{ACTION} Nelson Street; nighttime
[Czes was also going to try calling Elmer C. Albatross but instead he runs. He remembers that Elmer lived on Nelson Street, so he runs as fast as he can to that street, hoping he'll find the house. But it's the one with the treehouse, right?

He's running so fast he might crash right into a passerby, saying "Sorry!" and hoping he won't get pulled into a conversation.]

[Oh now he turns absolutely pale and looks away not very subtly at all.]

Nothing!

[Firo leans over to get a better look at Czes's face. You're really worrying him, pal.]

Uh, Czes? I can tell it wasn't nothin' by the way you look right now. C'mon, tell me what's wrong.

[No no no. Leaning back.]

N-no! Nothing happened!

[He looks terrified.]

[Firo reaches out in an attempt to grab Czes's shoulders gently so he can't lean away too far. Firo's not dense enough to miss that something really bad probably happened.]

Look, you can tell me what happened. Come on, I'm gettin' worried here.

[He raises his arms over his head and ducks -- he thought for a second that Firo was going for his head and that terrifies him. Or even if Firo wasn't going to, if he's friends with That Guy, maybe he actually is just as terrifying and strong and--]

Stop it!

[Czes has shown plenty of signs of being uncomfortable with contact, but Firo's still startled by his reaction this time. He forgets that Czes doesn't know that he has no intention to harm, and he doesn't realize how suspicious Czes can be. Blinking, he backs away, hands up in surrender.]

Hey, I'm just worried. What's wrong? Was it somethin' I said?

It's not that! I'm-- I'm okay, really. I'm sorry. [Czes doesn't realize he's breathing hard, but he is. He keeps his hands near his head as he calms himself down, but he looks like he might start crying.]

Wha-?

[He wants to reach out and comfort Czes, but he has the feeling that would only make things worse.]

Hey, there's no need to be sorry. But you... you really don't look okay.

[He shakes his head and crosses his arms over his chest.]

'M fine.

I just... I just don' wanna talk about it.

[He bites his lip as he debates whether or not he should press further. Did Czes tell him about this when they met in the future? If so, he feels awful that he doesn't know.

For something to both someone this much, Firo knows it has to be bad. And that's why he eventually decides to let it go. For now. He doesn't want to force it out of the kid.]

...Fine. Will you... will you tell me someday? When you do feel like it.

... I dunno. [Czes does not look at Firo, staring holes into his shoes and blinking his eyes fast. He doesn't want to close them or he'll remember how dark it was outside the train, how close the ground was, how red that ma--]

I-I'll think about it.

...Guess that's all I can ask. Thanks, Czes.

[He sighs, the curiosity and the desire to help Czes are killing him inside.]

You can trust me, you know.

Yeah, I know. Thank you, Firo.

[But Czes does not look all too sure about the trusting.]

[He nods and decides not to comment on Czes's look. He doesn't know what he may have done, but it seems like he'll have to find some way to earn Czes's trust.

Forcing a smile, he tries to change the subject.]

So have you had dinner yet?

Not yet! This house has dinner later in the afternoon, usually.

You got your heart set on eatin' here, or do you wanna go get somethin' together?

[Firo's found that an easy way to someone's heart is feeding them.]

[Well, you did win Ennis' trust that way didn't you?]

... I want to go with you! Do you have anywhere in mind?

There's some food back at the house, or we could stop by the diner. Your pick.

Would your "wi"-- your housemate mind? Maybe we can go to the diner! I've got some allowance.

[He's too happy that Czes seems to be cheering up a bit to notice the near slip-up.]

I don't think she would. But, hey, if we're goin' anywhere it's on me, okay?

Are you sure? I'd... I'd like to eat out, to be honest.

Then that's what we'll do. The food's actually pretty good there.

[He just tries to not think about the fact that it might be made by drones.]

I had a malt before! But that's not really dinner stuff.

I guess you could have one this time so long as you get some real food with it. They've got burgers and stuff like that.

[Firo should not be able to miss the slight sparkle in Czes' eyes. 230 or not, he's always loved sherbet. Ice cream is great.]

Of course I will! Or I'd get hungry.
