mayfield_rpg | Prayer Two: The Burned Man

[Joshua ignored his orders to prank people and thanks to that, died. Mayfield managing to do what even Caesar could not. However this being Mayfield, he's soon back.

He does receive an envelope in the mail. Opening it up he finds himself looking at a picture of a very familiar flag. He barely has time to say anything before he's hit with intense burning pain.

A. Hello Mayfield. There is a man sitting on his front steps, looking like he's getting his breath back. He's covered in horrific burns and has a piece of paper clenched in his hands.

B. Walking around town. Argh...it's the Mummy...no wait. Just a man wrapped in bandages from head to foot. Stop and stare? If you look at him for long he'll ask if he can help you with something.

C. The Church. The Burned Man in the church, reading a bible off to the side. Yes, there is a man wrapped in bandages sitting in the spot Joshua Graham usually spent his time reading.]

How kind of the town to return some of our things after that. I had almost gotten used to things too. Thank you for the reminder of reality Mayfield.

On an unrelated note, would anyone be able to tell me if the town has a source of bandages aside from the hospital?

I arrived here in February. I've been here a few times. But I only recently was ..."given" back my burns.

So I'm afraid I don't look quite the same anymore.

[Ah. People leaving and coming back is a little bit of a sore subject after America, not that he allows that to alter his polite smile one bit.]

...I'm sorry, sometimes what we get back here are things we'd rather have stayed at home.

It was only a matter of time. In the very least, I feel more like myself again.

[He's had four years to get used to it after all.]

[He just nods, it's not for him to judge whether burns make this man feel like himself or not.]

Do you come to the church often? Perhaps you know my brother, Father Abel Nightroad?

I don't believe we've met. Though, I do come here quite often.

This building a great deal ...grander then the one I'm used to back home. But it is still a church.

[All buildings here are grander then New Cannan's were.]

This is the only church I've ever been into, are they usually much simpler than this?

[Being as how his priest brother is from a different time to him.]

Of the few I've seen yes.

Though the one I know best was in my hometown. It was smaller. More repairs and patching done to it to keep it running over the years.

I think somewhere like that might be nicer than this, it shows that the people who use it love it enough to keep it running.

I have to agree with that. It was well loved.

If we are able to build a new Church in the future, I hope it is just as looked after as the old one was.

I'm sure you will when you get home, if you want it enough.

[Though he can't imagine why he would, a church is good for very little in his opinion.]

I have no doubt.

[He nods. Building a church would be nice, and it will happen. But it's secondary to building the rest of the town and simply surviving. Their faith is in them after all.]

You said you have never been a church before here? Did you not visit your brother before?

Did you know that this town can take people from many different points in their lives?

[Therefore making it super awkward for everyone involved.]

Back home, my brother and I are identical twins, so he's ten like me. Here, he's from a time when he's much older.

[He nods.]

I have heard things like that.

It must be quite strange.

That's definitely one way to put it, I never thought I'd see Abel all grown up without me.

This place is quite powerful.

I'll be quite interested to find out how they are doing all of this.

If anything, this place teaches patience.

We'll get out of here one day, that's for certain, it only takes one mistake and we're free.

That depends what you class as a mistake...

Showing their hand, I mean.

A few times, most regularly over the phones, snatches of conversation can sometimes be heard.

Fascinating.

It always pays to be vigilant in keeping track of the phones here, the radio and TV too on occasion.
