dfu (2) - status effect = zombie
[The experiments on Rikku at the factory included the unfortunate side effect of death. She's a stalwart girl, yes, but even the most stalwart can only survive so long with surgical tools tearing at her intestines and causing internal bleeding. Her death certificate was practically signed before she left the factory, and she only survived for a few hours after being released from it.
But that's okay, because she's back! Sure, she's not in the best condition, but she's alive again!
Kind of.
If you ignore the fact that she has no heartbeat, or that her body temperature is incredibly low, or that her blood is a congealed pseudo-solid, or that her right hand (stitched to her left wrist) is starting to fall off, or that a scalpel seems to be poking out from her lower abdomen, or that she looks like she's still dead... it's like she's good as new!]
[Action A: Around Town]
[Despite being little better than a reanimated corpse (and after she has a few hours to freak out over her current state of being), Rikku's wandering around town to check on people. Friends and family get highest priority, of course, but if she sees someone in need of assistance she'll approach and try to help.
Rikku is the cheeriest zombie. Or, at least, she's doing her best to be. There's no sense in wasting time bemoaning her state, right?]
[Action B: 918 Bilko Boulevard, locked to
sara_mudou]
[Rikku's banging on Sara's front door with the stump of her left wrist, her hand having been lost somewhere along the way. She's heard the phone announcement that they're allowed to blow things up now, and she really really wants to take advantage. It serves them right for putting them through all of this, and maybe they can get something accomplished!
Unfortunately, possessing one backward-and-barely-operational hand means she can't mix the ingredients herself, so she needs a friend. Besides, Sara was such a wreck last time she saw her, so she wants to see if the girl is doing any better.]
Sara! Sara, hey! Open up! We have things to blow up!

A
Hey! Rikku! What's go...
[He stops and gives her a once-over.]
Uh, are you feeling OK? You're looking a little...uh, under the weather.
no subject
[She wishes she were kidding.]
But I'm up and moving, so I don't know. I'd say that I'm Unsent, but... I don't think it works like this, and I don't really have any kind of reason to stick around this place.
no subject
[Gohan moves closer to Rikku and pokes at her arm lightly.]
That's...well, that's something really weird. From where I'm from, even if you're dead and back on the planet, you just look like you were in life, not...well, like a zombie. Uh, no offense.
no subject
Where I'm from, most people who die and are still around become fiends. So I guess this is better than that? I'm still me, I'm just... dead.
no subject
[He gets a horrified expression on his face]
You...you don't have an insatiable hunger for brains, do you?
no subject
[Rikku stares at him after that last question, her head tilting slightly to the side.]
Why would I be hungry for brains?
no subject
My little brother used to like to watch movies about things that look, well, kind of like you. They seemed to like eating human brains, and it scared him a lot. [He pauses, and smirks a little bit.] His best friend always told him he'd have nothing to worry about from them.
no subject
[She thinks. Unsent are different than just being flat-out dead, right?]
I'm just not hungry at all. I don't feel much of anything.
no subject
[Gohan just nods and gives her a once-over again.]
Huh. That can't be pleasant. Not even this?
[Should she allow it, Gohan will poke her shoulder again.]
That's...just weird. Kinda cool, but weird.

no subject
Well, with any luck, it's only temporary. I mean, they got that machine working again, right?
no subject
[She looks down at her hands.]
Maybe switch my hands back like they're supposed to be.
no subject
[He glances down at her hands.]
Huh, I've heard of two left feet before, but nothing like this. Uh...sorry for the bad joke.
B.
No... No. That's Rikku's voice. It's not a demon. She tells herself that, over and over again, and forces herself to go to the door. When she opens it, she realizes just what Rikku is yelling, and for a moment, Sara almost seems like herself again.]
Blow things up?! Are you crazy? We can't do that!
no subject
[The soundest of logic.]
I just need hands. One of mine fell off.
no subject
It's not until the zombie has lumbered closer that she realizes it's Rikku. Obviously she's been experimented on, and really looks a mess.
Kono can't manage more than a blink at Rikku's state, even though internally it's horrific.]
Rikku, what happened?
no subject
[She gives Kono a rather plaintive wave in greeting, the movement causing enough stress on the stitching that's just barely holding her right hand to her left wrist that the hand comes off. It lands in the pond with a pathetic plop.]
People who die are supposed to stay dead. I know that Unsent usually become fiends, but... I don't think it's like this.
no subject
You dropped this.
[Slowly, Kono processes what she said.]
You're a zombie. Just don't eat me, I'll probably make you sick.
no subject
Why do people keep acting like I'm going to eat them? I'm not really hungry at all.
no subject
You seem happy for a zombie.
no subject
[That's really unpleasant to say.]
I'm not happy, but... there's no point in just standing around being miserable about it, either.
no subject
[Kono blinks at Rikku slowly. Even if she was thinking clearly, that would take some time to process.
She looks over to where Rikku's hand lies on the ground.]
Maybe you can sew it? It might not hurt. Do you hurt?
no subject
But it doesn't hurt. Nothing hurts--I barely feel anything at all.
[Frown.]
no subject
Mayfield could still fix you. If they fix the revival machine. Then you'll get your hand back, it'll be fine.
[Kono's still holding on to this hope herself, since being stuck in a pond for all eternity feeling like crap is a sucky fate.]
