event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.

The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.

The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...

Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.

Better get moving.

[Fwumph! Just for Gentarou, Beast Boy will become an extra-large extra-fluffy llama. Adventure was a-go.

He'll be too busy paying attention to where he puts his feet to be able to pay much attention to his surroundings, so it was probably up to Gentarou to search.]

[As they reach the summit, they would see a fluttering of something pinned under a rock...]

[Gen peers as strainingly as he can, and just BARELY spots that flutter.]

Over there! There's somethin'!

[Beast Boy dutifully spits once and melts a patch in the snow. The beast of burden trods towards wherever the man was directing him to go.

...When they get closer, Beast Boy will shift back to normal and dump Gentarou off.]

...What is it, dude?

I dunno.

[He'll peer closer. He can't tell too much because of what it's under.]

Think we should just grab it?

Yeah, let's do that and head back to town if it looks promising.

[Beast Boy will reach underneath the rock and pull.]

[It's a photograph!

As soon as Beast Boy grabs it everything goes to hell in a handbasket. The mountain starts to shake and black plumes of smoke issue from the top.

They've got minutes at best to get off the summit before it erupts.]

Oh crap!

[Uhoh...epic trap has been launched!]

We gotta get outta here!

Uh.

Wha -- Oh crap!

[Beast Boy will waste a valuable five seconds gaping in horror before thrusting the photograph deep into a pocket and transforming into a pterodactyl. He screeches, flaps into the sky, and wings around to grab Gentarou.

Try not to think about where the photograph went.]

[Agreed. No thinking on that at all. Instead, he's gonna jump for BB. Talons or back, doesn't matter to him right now.]
