event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.

The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.

The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...

Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.

Better get moving.

[Kariya steps through the portal, pulling the hood of his sweatshirt up and over his head and pulling the drawstrings tight. Just standing at the bottom for now, he takes a few moments to stare up at the foreboding sky above.]

...Nowhere to go but up.

[It's a good thing Barton wears her bulky overcoat and boots, even in summer. She tugs the coat closer as she looks around.]

Dunno what's worse. Wolves, or those holes.

[It just had to be a mountain, didn't it. She could already feel her bad leg ache in protest of climbing it and she pulls her trenchcoat around herself.]

... Well, this is gonna be fun.

It iiis? [ She can tell it's cold, but her breath is the only one of the trio that isn't visible in the chill air. Yoshika looks around and then up. ] ...that looks familiaaar.

[A mountain, was it? He could handle that, no problem. Moving quickly, Beast Boy transforms into an alpaca and begins to surefootedly make his way up the mountain, fluffy and warm.

There might be room for a few on his back.],/small>

[Nigel hikes as far he can without much trouble, although he was wary about those wolf howls - he keeps it in the back of his mind that he may have to fight, but for now, it's exploring.

Soon he finds himself at a spot that's too steep. With a shrug, he clicks his heels, triggering jet engines to come out. It's time to boost over this tough stuff.]

[ Yukko had the foresight to at least wear something that wasn't a t-shirt, so the cold won't bother her so much past a stuffy nose. However, she neglected to bring gloves. But she's taken the liberty of balling her sleeves up, so that might be enough.

Yukko was not expecting a mountain. She was expecting an alien world. Or a parallel universe where Yukko has a mustache and Yoshika was alive. That would have been cool. But no, it was a mountain. She would have expressed her disappointment if she didn't hear the wolves.

Kyouko knows what she's doing. She spoke of living on a mountain before, so this comes as no surprise. Yukko listens and nods obediently. She may be a simpleton, but she's not stupid. Well. Smart enough to know Kyouko knows lots more than her. ]

Okay sis, [ She looks around pensively. Nope, no yetis. ] but should it be this cold? It's, like, freezing!

Huh, been a while since we climbed a good mountain, huh Pikachu?

[As they travel ever upward, you may come across Ash and Pikachu on your path.]

[With September rolling in and the town cooling down, Hakuno has taken to wearing a jacket over her - still sadly Mayfield-style - clothes. She's glad that she did, when she finally gave in to the curiosity of exploring. When she stepped through the portal, she immediately zipped the jacket up as best as she could. She'll need to keep moving, this won't protect her for long...

Thankfully, she's not unarmed. Tucked into her belt is an ornamental dagger, and in her hands is a thin, wicked-sharp looking sword, which she's currently examining.]

... Geez, why'd I even bring this along? Saber's the one who knows how to use this, not me.

[... But Saber's not here, and hasn't been for a long time. As much as she hates it and fails at it, she just has to protect herself from now on.]

Been a while since I've seen a mountain like this... Seems like it'll be a big climb to the top.

Yeah? You shoulda seen Mt. Coronet back in Sinnoh. It was pretty big.

[assuming Ash has climbed a little higher than he has, he catches up and lands on some rock.]

... [wait, that sounds a little bad, like he's just out there because he's antsy in Mayfield. sort of true though.]

Well, even though it's not from the Kids Next Door, it could be a vital component to our success.
