ADVENTURE 003: Jobs are Dull

[Action; Pharmacy.]

[Sherlock had heard about the possibility of being droned, so here he is at work. And he's actually, you know, working. He's not here for his own gain, nor to do research. And he's actually pointing customers in the right direction, after telling them something about themselves they'd rather keep hidden. He doesn't sound like he wants to help. He sounds more like he's here under threat of punishment - which is pretty much true.]

Need help with anything?

[Action; City Bench.]

[Sherlock is reading a book - or pretending to. He's actually watching drones and people milling about. He's hoping to try to think his way out of this place. And he's hoping by observing others, he'll learn something.]

Who says I was avoiding you? The only way I can avoid worrying over things and keep myself from getting paranoid is to focus all my attention on something else. As such, I have limited time for social interaction.

It has nothing to do with you. At least... I don't think it does. But I can't exactly trust you know, not when you're like that. One of the first things you said to me was 'Hey, you got small again.'

That's a pretty suspicious comment don't you think?

[Sherlock grimaces.]

It was stating the obvious.

Only for you. No one else here knows the truth about my identity and I'm trying to keep it that way.

But what could I do? You're Sherlock Holmes. I couldn't lie to you, you saw right through it.

[He's ummm trying? It's not quite humility, but he thinks this is trying.]

And what do you think would happen if the wrong person found out that Edogawa Conan isn't really seven at all, but actually seventeen?

It doesn't matter if they know my identity, or if they're connected to the syndicate or not, if someone were to discover that a seventeen year old reverted back to a childhood state they would want to know how it happened. And some people might not be nice enough to only ask questions about it.

In this place you think it's unusual for people it get big or small? And if you were so concerned, then why are you so very willing to say it now, in such a public place where anyone could be listening?

[Sherlock? I'm not sure that will help.]

Tch. Give me a little credit, I'm not speaking that loudly. Plus, if someone were spying they couldn't get close enough to hear all of that without my noticing. I can always tell when I'm being watched and I make it a point to always be aware of my surroundings.

I'm not saying it's unusual to everyone. I'm saying it isn't something I want to risk-especially if by some cruel twist of fate They show up.

[ He was all set to just walk off. But now something is bugging him. ]

Oi. Is it really that difficult to be nice? If I didn't know any better, I'd say it was like pulling teeth for you.

You've read the books about me. So, you know all about me, you don't need me to answer that question.

[He pauses to take a breath.]

So tell me, what's really bothering you?

[ Well... he has a point. ]

The same thing that's been bothering me for the past two years. Living with great black Shadow over my head that threatens to consume everything. Constantly wondering how much longer I can fool Them, and did I just bring the guillotine down on everyone's head? Is she safe? Who is it that's accepting bribes. When I go back, am I going to my death? What do I do if Mayfield is somehow connected to the Black Organization, what do I do if one of their operatives show up here?

All of that and much more is constantly running through my mind which is why it's so important that I focus my attention on something else.

Fine. You didn't do anything-not really. It sounds really stupid since I already knew about your bad habits and yet I was still disappointed to see you like.. well, that. So it's not you I'm upset with.

Odd, because that sounds like you are exactly upset with me.

[Calm, logical, and time for a topic change.]

But since you're not leaving. Tell me everything you know about the drones. Or us when we become drones.

[ He just shrugs ] You can't help who you are. I won't ask you too.

The Drones? They're empty. They only react when you approach them or their approached by other drones. They, at least, seem to be immune to the milk-or else don't react to it. If you try to talk to them your conversation will probably only go in circles. They might only be pieces of data that haven't been fully programed yet.. but there's also a chance they act like a security cameras.

Either way... they might be a way out....

[Sherlock pauses.]

Do we remember anything when we become drones?

They might lead us to a way out, at least. If the Mayor, Smith-san and Zemekis are like us in the sense that they're stuck here too, then it stands to reason they too would need some form nutrion. Oddly enough though, no one ever sees them going to the grocery store or any of the restaurants. I asked around about people possibly trying to hide their face but I didn't really expect to find anything like that. It makes sense though, if the drones can be used to accomplish what the others can't without stepping out of a safety zone-like stockpile food.

Ah.. It depends on reason for the droning-When I returned home I was droned but I don't remember anything about it-probably because I wasn't actually here- but if it's a punishment then you usually remember it.

So then droning might be the best possible solution at this point. How can one get droned?

[Yes, Sherlock is formulating a research study.]

Easy enough, just skip work for three days. But, if you're wanting the kind droning process that sends you home, I haven't yet found what triggers that. Or else I'd have gone back to Ran by now.
