Thirteenth Miracle

[Ever since being taken to the factory and operated on, Lion has been scarce. Mainly because the operation locked him inside his own mind, believing that he was back home on the island of Rokkenjima with the dead bodies of his family and friends washing up on the beaches. He hasn't been able to see, hear or feel anything that's been going on in Mayfield.

Today, though, the nightmare has finally ended. Instead of being trapped on the abandoned island with no way of escape, Lion finds himself back in his assigned house in Mayfield, where he had eventually ended up by a stroke of luck. He feels dazed and rather tired, but he still picks up the phone. No use being kept in the dark.]

My apologies...but can anyone tell me what the current situation is? It looks like things have gone back to normal from what I can see, but I think I've missed several days here. I...suppose you could say my mind was elsewhere.

No, really. Happens to some of the heroes I deal with. They go through so much stress and keep it all to themselves and eventually worry themselves into a nihilistic depression.

[Sadly, Lion knows someone who went through the same thing.] That doesn't sound at all healthy.

Well, you know how heroes are. They tend to think of themselves as strong mentally just because they're strong physically. So they end up taking in more and more things that they think they can't let out because they have to be strong all the time. Then they start wanting to destroy the world and everything goes to hell in a handbasket.

But, you know, not every hero does that. Morgan's got a speed dial. Heck, I've probably spread her number around to more people than I can count. So we can always call each other. It helps...most of the time.

Ah...heroes? So are you a hero yourself? What does that involve, exactly? ...Well, aside from the obvious connotations, I suppose.

Well, back in the day, I did stuff like fight monsters and rescue princesses and defend my country from invasion. Now I mostly travel around helping people who need it.

[That and freeload off people.]

So you'd be a freelancer at this point, then. Is this a common line of work where you're from?

[More like a freeloader.]

Well, I don't know. Everyone's doing different stuff. Holger is a realtor, Morgan is a nurse, Tomoe Gozen is a freelance photographer, Paul Bunyan is still a lumberjack...let's just say all of us are doing what we're good at to earn a buck or two.
