event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.
The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.
The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...
Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.
Better get moving.

[She huffs, her tail curling a little as it continues to wag.]
At least it always felt like they did. I know what you mean, though. Breaking in a new place can be really hard, but I think I can come up with some solutions for that. A bit of sage, holy water and a couple of batches of cookies should do the trick.

[ He smiles, and now I feel bad for using this icon three times in a row because he doesn't smile a lot when skinny lmao... ]
But... we won't get to do that if we don't get to this first.

[Mika just returns the smile, her grip on the gun relaxing. Shhh no it is fine bb no one will notice /pets gently
Huffing softly, she nods, picking up the pace a little.]
Well, we'd better get to it, then.

[ And then he starts off determinedly. He'll be in major pain tomorrow just from the walking, but if he feels any right now, he's not showing it. ]
Think we'll get there before lunch?
no subject
[She cocks her head as she walks, staring up at the summit as she considers it.]
There's a distinct possibility that we might actually be able to make that, yeah.

[ He is maybe sounding a teeny bit strained, because of his heart problems. But he presses on. ]
no subject
Here, let me carry some of that too. No sense in only making it halfway before I have to rush you to the hospital, right?
[A sympathetic smile tugs at her lips and she gives his shoulder a gentle push, being sure not to accidentally knock him over.]
We'll get there, so don't let yourself get too worn out first. We have to make it back down the mountain too, because I'm not leaving you here.
no subject
[ He smiles ]
I'll be fine, don't worry about me. I've been trained for this.
[ But uh, any stronger of a push and he'd fall over ]
no subject
I know, but I'll still carry some anyway. You can fight me for it if you really want it back that much.
[She huffs, smiling a bit as she shoulders some of his gear.]
no subject
Thank you. I'll need them back as soon as things go south.
[ Because he will fight off anything that tries to attack them. ]
no subject
No problem, you're undoubtedly a much better shot than I am, considering the formal training and all.
[Mika will do her best, but she knows she's awful in a fight and really shouldn't be trusted with guns.]
no subject
We'll see. Worse comes to worse, we just use more ammo than we mean to.
no subject
[Huffing a little at his comment, she cracks a grin in an attempt at making a joke.]
And if nothing else I'll start throwing rocks like baseballs. Maybe it'll work.
no subject
[ He's serious. Not that he's fought wolves but, he'd have no regrets. ]
no subject
[She seems to tense a little, then all of her fur seems to stand on end, and even her hair seems to fluff up a little.]
Besides, I can look bigger when I want to.
no subject
[ Okay, he might need to take a swig of water. They're getting pretty high and he's not very good... at... breathing. ]
no subject
[She huffs in amusement before taking a look around, her ears twitching towards strange noises in an attempt to catch any signs of a threat. Mika does reach over to give his shoulder a faint squeeze.]
Take your time.
no subject
[ NOPE, NOT SLOWING DOWN, NOT GIVING UP ): Boy doesn't take no for an answer!! ]
I want to get us out of here.
no subject
All right, Captain. Lead on, I'll follow wherever you go.
[She thinks that over for a moment.]
Or at least I'll make sure to help you over the rough spots.
no subject
[ And then he does lead on, or at least, tries to. He thinks he'll make a trip to the post office some time... ]
no subject
[Teamwork! Between the two of them, they should get there safely.
Although he'd better hope she never hears about his plans to visit the post office, or he'll find she's incredibly opinionated on the subject. Begging and pleading from a dog is nothing like what she'll throw at him. It's not a safe plan, don't do it Steve!]
no subject
Hm, is there anything around that smells... like it shouldn't belong here?
[ He knows it's a long shot, but it's worth a try.
And... well, Sora told him the post office would be a good idea... ]
no subject
[She sniffs at the air, head tilting into whatever breeze and air currents she can find. Ears cocked, she strains to hear whatever she can, her tail waving.
Oh nooooo who forgot to tell Sora about all the bad things the post office does. That should be remedied.
Mika huffs, her nose wrinkling and her ears twitching back.]
I can't tell from this distance, the wind's not blowing the right way. I'll keep a nose out for it just to be sure.
