[Sherlock had heard about the possibility of being droned, so here he is at work. And he's actually, you know, working. He's not here for his own gain, nor to do research. And he's actually pointing customers in the right direction, after telling them something about themselves they'd rather keep hidden. He doesn't sound like he wants to help. He sounds more like he's here under threat of punishment - which is pretty much true.]

[Sherlock is reading a book - or pretending to. He's actually watching drones and people milling about. He's hoping to try to think his way out of this place. And he's hoping by observing others, he'll learn something.]

I'm not distracted by anything. I'm watching people and things. Currently, I'm intrigued by the drones.

[He gestures to them.]

But, if I read, then the drones tend to leave me alone.

"Yea, drones don't notice much of anything at all..! Their think pans are totally scrubbed..! It's like they're robots..!" Actually...

She pauses. "...It's like if Equius built a robot to act like humans furrom this 'time' actually." Except not metal...

Yes, I've figured that much out. The question is- why. What purpose do they serve? This town is populated enough without them.

"Conan said it was purrobably a simulation, so maybe whoevurr made it treats it like a game. That would make them NPCs..!"

[Sherlock is going through all the acronyms in his head for NPC. But she said 'game' and none of the acronym fits for games.]

I don't play games.

someone needs to time how long it takes him to play through a Layton game.

Look. I don't play games, my mental capacity far exceeds the creators of such games, so they are typically quite boring for me.

The fact that I know without trying is precisely the problem.

None of that matters now. The only thing that matters is getting out of here. And I'm starting to suspect the drones might be a key to that.

She looks back at some of the drones. "How?"

If I already knew the answer to that I wouldn't be sitting here watching them, now would I?

[But, he thinks enough about it that it's worth spending his time doing this.]

"Hnnn... I surrpose... ...But they really are 'empty'..! They don't even really have a scent..."

...That could actually be a useful fact.

If they're empty than they can be filled with something.

[Still, he's not convinced of that.]

She shakes her head. "It's just a f33ling I get. I don't think anyone knows fur sure."

Then, perhaps it is time for an experiment. Tell me. When one of us gets droned do we smell different than the other drones?
