Issue #12: Carnival of Doom!

[After the call from that Crowe kid, Booster went off to do as he said he would. To find that Magnus and Pony and tell them that Crowe and Zidane are OK, just trapped in some goofy parallel universe or something. Either way he walked up to the house and knocked on the door.]

Phone 1: Drone filters only

So uh yeah, apparently the missing people are stuck in some other world or something. Anyone have any plans on this? Maybe some sort of mad science, I don't know? I have a plan, but its all kind of over my head.

Action 2: Carnival

[Booster is now enacting his brilliant plan. At home he took a piece of wood and wrote "DANGER! STUPID PORTAL TO SOME PLACE WITH NO FOOD! DO NOT ENTER!" on it and nailed it to another one to make a sign. He's just walked up to the fun house and planted it in the ground. With a nod he lets out a breath face palms.]

Well... That's all I got.

Hey, um, are you the family of that Crowe guy, or someone named Zidane?

Yes, they both live here. They've been missing for days and I haven't heard anything from them...

Yeah, I got a call from Crowe the other night. They're trapped in another Mayfield with no drones, or food, or anything. But according to Crowe they're both ok.

(Well that perks her up.)

They are? That's great! (She calms back down, considering the situation and all that.) I figured they were brought there, but I'm really glad that they're still okay. Please, come in.

(She'll step aside to allow Booster to do so. She does have a few more questions to ask, but she wants to do the polite thing and not have him stand at the door the entire time.)

Oh uh... Thank you.

[He nods a bit, still not 100% sure how to react to a talking purple unicorn but willing to roll with things, and heads inside.]

I'm currently SORT of working on a plan but, uh... There are snags.

(Twilight directs him to the couch, where he's more than welcome to have a seat.)

Maybe I can help out with that. What do you have planned so far?

Put a sign up in front of the Fun House saying not to go in there!

I see...well, it's not a bad idea to direct everyone away from it, but won't we need more than a sign for that?

A do not enter sign is probably a good start. Though you have to phrase it in a way that doesn't make people curious. I was thinking of "DANGER! CRAPSACK WORLD! DO NOT ENTER!" or something.

I think it could use something more specific than "crapsack," whatever that is. Why not mention how fatal it could be to go in there? The Funhouse itself is dangerous, so wherever it leads could be a lot worse.

[He ponders deeply, for several minutes. If you look carefully you can ALMOST see the hamster fall off the wheel in his head.]

Maybe..... If it just mentioned there being no food there. People like to eat and not being able to do so may turn them off.

Well...I still suggest mentioning people can and possibly will die there, but I guess that would work....

That doesn't work as well here. Since most people get better so fast from dying it doesn't hold the same threat, but starving is painful and annoying.

That's why I figure the thinky folks would be wanting to work on a way to get them food.

You have a point there. If it is possible to send them food and water, then I'd like to help. Maybe if it was lowered to the lowest floor of the funhouse, they'd be able to access it.

...otherwise, I'd want to seal off the entrance with a barrier.

Thing is, I don't know if the portal is on the lowest floor. I mean people did go in and leave, only some got stuck, right?

Well yes, but I've heard people have covered every inch of it and still came back here. It really could be anywhere, but it brings up the possibility of someone having to get sent there just to make sure the supplies actually go through...

.....Maybe if we got a really long rope.

And a volunteer who'd be willing to be on the other end of the rope...which I'm pretty sure won't be easy to find, especially after advertising how dangerous that place is.

I wonder if Skeets would do it. No, I think he's still angry at me for that messed up memory thing.

Realistically, the sign may be as good as it can get unless someone wouldn't mind getting stationed outside so no one can get it.

[ Here comes Magnus, still in his jammies, having just woken up. It takes him a second to realize they have company.

He pauses in the doorway, yawning and running a hand through his hair. ]

[ He leans against the wall, crossing his arms over his chest. ]</small? What's going on?

The short story is that Crowe and Zidane may be trapped in an alternate universe with no food that stemmed from the carnival. I'm still working on the long one but Crowe asked me to tell people here they were alive.

[ Dammit, he knew there was a reason the carnival gave him the heebie jeebies. And it wasn't just the freak show, either. ]

Well. At least we know they're alive.
