Well, that was fun. So that's the kind of thing that happens here regularly?

[When Caroline needs to think, she goes out for a run. With some of her abilities regained at the scrambled state of her brain, she has a lot to think about. The completely distracted young woman is running all about town and it's perfectly possible that she'll just run into someone due to her lack of focus. Anyone with magical talent will probably be treated to a double take.

Hopefully she won't run into anything when that double take happens, but it's perfectly possible she'll be spotted having a run in with an innocent tree after spotting someone magically inclined.]

[Caroline takes a deep breath before opening the door, since the last time she saw Ilsa was not exactly the best meeting.]

Hey, Ilsa.

Hey.

[ She looks worse than she sounded on the phone. ]

Come in. You look like you could use some time off your feet.

[She stepped aside so Ilsa could come into yet another stereotypical 1950's home. Nothing interesting to see, just a pot of tea and a plate of cookies set on the coffee table.]

[ Ilsa will take the seat nearest the door, but it doesn't look like it's because she's looking for escape routes, more like she's worn out. She manages to not collapse, but it's not with her usual grace that she sits. ]

I'm sorry you had to run into... the person I was this weekend.

[Caroline takes a seat across from her and starts pouring tea.]

Sounds like that was going around. I wasn't exactly a delight last week, either. But thank you, and I won't hang on to anything from last week.

It's... too late for me to return what was stolen, but...

[ Ilsa takes a small something from her purse. ]

I was able to put some of it to good use.

[ She hands over a small copper charm. One side has an eight-pointed star, and the reverse has a rust-colored thumbprint. ]

I still don't understand what you did.

[She reaches out to take it, flipping it over in her hand. It's also a good opportunity to put her regained abilities to work, seeing what she can pick up on it.]

What is it?

[ The charm does have some protection wards on it, with several variations. The thumbprint is blood, but it is Ilsa's, and doesn't have the darker overtones of blood taken by force. ]

One of the things I can do is drain the energy someone generates by their emotions. I was taught to use the ability to help someone distance themselves from pain by refining it and feeding back the positive to them for strength.

[ She sighs, wincing. ] Not everyone where my dad's from believes in doing it that way. Last weekend, I believed I was one of them, I think.

[She flips the charm over in her hand, admiring it.]

So that's what was going on. I thought you were a blood mage, but that didn't make any sense since you weren't actually hurting me. Just . . . draining me.

I don't really remember what I was thinking last week, but it sounds like I thought my life was different. It sounds like you were the same way.

It's... not the best few days I've had.

[ Ilsa goes very quiet, not focusing on anything in the room. ]

I'm sorry. Is it something that you'd feel better talking about? Or I have ice cream. It's pretty much how I cope.

[ Ilsa's hand shakes a little as she reaches for a cup of tea. ]

I've had chocolate therapy already.

[ After a sip of tea, she continues, ]... and Tarvek has been helping.

Chocolate can fix most of the ills in the world, if you give it long enough.

[She picks up her own cup of tea.]

Tarvek is your significant other, right?

[ She nods. ] My alpha. He was changed, as well, but... he was able to handle me in that state.
