◇ ix; templars rule mages drool
[Hawke wakes up this morning feeling just like her usual self. At least, her personality is largely unchanged - she's just as bizarre and sarcastic as ever - but her beliefs and ideals have been turned upside down. Rather than rooting for the "little guy" in Kirkwall - its mages, that is - she despises any and all to do with magic, born from her resentment of her father and sister, and the hardships keeping their secret brought down on her. And that resentment only blossomed into complete hatred after what happened to her mother. So, determined to eliminate the mage threat, she sided with the templars, and the name "Hawke" became a reminder of templar oppression for mages throughout Thedas. Having earned the Order's respect, she even served as Viscount of Kirkwall for a time, before disappearing into the sunset.
y e p, just another day.]

Did you know, Mayfield, that I've been here for a year now? ...Well, a year and two months, if you want to nitpick. So much time has passed, and yet we've come no closer to overcoming the magic this town lords over us. [Hawke spits out the word "magic" like it leaves a bitter taste in her mouth, her voice heavy with uncharacteristic hatred. Fenris would be so proud.] What I wouldn't give for some help from a templar friend or fifty right about now. We might benefit from a little structure around here; keep those pesky mages in line.
[ACTION; Church of Salvation]
[Frankly, Hawke is a pretty bad Andrastian. She isn't a templar, nor is she a chanter, and she sure as hell isn't devout. Considering all this, she isn't sure why she's drawn to the church, of all things. Perhaps it's because it resembles the Chantry in Kirkwall, if just a little bit, and she longs for anything that reminds her of home. Maybe it's because she remembers Sebastian, and how he was convinced that she was doing the Maker's work, defending the people from the mage threat.
Mostly, she thinks, she just wants to light a candle and remember all that's been lost because of magic. Religion is not her forte, but she'll pray for the deceased, regardless. She owes her mother that much, if nothing else.]

Besides, the healing is worth a little hypocrisy.

Seriously?
[ phone ]
...All right, no, that's a lie. I could sit here and discuss the benefits of the Circle until my face turns blue, certainly, but I doubt either of us wants that.

I have to say, you're a very good actress.

[This is a joke. Right? Hawke's just drunk, or something like that. And having one over on him.]
Keeping -- Hawke, are you all right?

Or approve their methods, either.

'Some mage lover'?
Are you serious? Is this some sort of joke? You've always been... you've always supported us.

Church
...THAT IS
Ciel's gathered something's off around town since morning, so after a quick checkup of the house (which didn't amount to much, given that they're either seemingly themselves or out), decided to come to the church earlier than normal today just in case.
...Huh, well that's a... new face. Sort of; she's fairly certain she's seen the woman in passing before, but never really at the church. Still, meditation and prayer are as they are; it'd be rude to interrupt. Having stepped out into the front with a copy of the Bible tucked under an arm, she quietly waits. Maybe there'll be something she can do...?]

I won't be struck down for praying to a different god here, will I?
no subject
Not at all. Given how this town carelessly takes individuals from all sorts of worlds here with completely different backgrounds, it'd be very careless and inconsiderate to limit something like worship. [Granted Christianity doesn't have the purest history here either, but DETAILS...] Faith is still faith, hm? If anything, I was wondering if you needed something in particular? [or help for whatever reason...]

[In response to Ciel's question, Hawke just shrugs her shoulders casually.] Nothing in particular, no. This place reminded me a little bit of home, and while I'm not normally one to pray... It seemed appropriate, I suppose.

A special occasion or something like that, if it's okay for me to guess? You're definitely not new in town, miss.

[Hawke frowns. She's aware that there are people who have been trapped here far longer than she has, but it never fails to surprise or disappoint her.]
I did not spend much time at the Chantry, back in Kirkwall, but I always found it... peaceful. [another shrug] I wondered if it would be the same, here. Homesickness, I suppose, as silly as that sounds.
