[Mom Lalonde sounds almost distracted today, or perhaps just bored.]

I have a proposition for any interested young people who may wish to take on a job after school. I wish to hire a personal assistant to aid me in several small projects I plan to undertake in the near future.

[She pauses, for a sip of her drink.]

Nothing of particular importance, just something to occupy my time. The job will entail taking dictation, some light filing, and running simple errands. Compensation is negotiable, but intended to be more than adequate.

Good, now what I typically drink is a slight variation on that. Slightly less vermouth and a bit of olive juice. It's generally called a dry and dirty martini.

There are some people who prefer the same drink made with vodka and and shaken instead. Those people have probably never tasted the proper version.

Blink. And then a nod. "Understood; I will make certain not to forget this."

Good, then I think we'll get along just fine.

Now, how much do you know about astronomy?

"In regards to the stars of my realm, I could describe their very origin," she begins. "However, in regard to the subject of such things in other realms, I am unfortunately lacking in knowledge."

That's quite alright. I ask because the first thing we will be doing is making a chart of the stars visible from Mayfield.

Ah...

A nod. "I will gladly assist." ...This could move rather interestingly when her flight is regained.

Good, let's go upstairs.

[She picks up her drink and gestures toward the stairs.]

I'll show you my observatory.

"Understood." She follows in silence for the most part, though her eyes do drift somewhat on the way up despite herself. Observatories don't exist yet in her world, so this could be interesting.

[It was one of Mom's first regains. On top of the house there is a round room that houses a large telescope. There's actually nothing else up there.]

We're going to chart the stars over Mayfield using this. And after we have a basic chart, we're going to see how things look from different vantage points around town. Make sure everything lines up.

Naturally for the second part, we'll need to acquire a more portable telescope, but I'll worry about that.

Fi takes a bit of time to look at the large telescope while Mom speaks- it resembles, rather loosely, something she might have seen in the robot's ruins of her world, or perhaps the Thunder Dragon's realm.

She nods in the end, turning back to face Mom. "Understood."

Now obviously this project is best completed when the stars are more easily viewed. I hope you can handle one or two late nights.

A nod. "Most certainly." Mind you, Fi doesn't actually know her limits right now... ...But she can probably manage nonetheless.

Excellent. Then we'll start the weekend after the prom. There's no sense in either of us missing what is sure to be the most impressive party in town.

[Mom is looking forward to prom. It should be interesting.]

"...Prom?"

Fi do you live under a roc- nevermind.

Oh? Hadn't you heard? They're throwing a big party at the high school. The whole town has been invited.

Several times. Haven't you been listening to the phone lines?

"I have." Erk. "Admittedly however, I did not realize specifically what 'Prom' was aside from an event of sorts." ...OOPS.

It's really just a dance. But most of the town is likely to turn out for it, which should make things interesting.

Hnnnn... Well she seems to be thinking about it- with a little more thought than a few things, at least in regard to the 'heart'. "...I have wondered, briefly, if dances from most other realms are at all similar to those in my former realm. It was the medium through which I once translated many things." ...Mind, she can't really 'glide' anymore so she can't exactly dance like that anyways...

"...Perhaps I should attend."

There's only one real way to find out. You ought to go and consider it an educational opportunity.

And also an excuse to dress up a little and relax, meet more people.

Blink, blink.

And nod. "...Of course." Hnnn... "Hopefully, what I am able to wear will be adequate." Oho, worrying about a dress... You've already got the first step Fi!

I wouldn't worry. Unless you're dressing to impress someone specific, it will be easy to find something suitable.

Honestly, the shops in town even have a few things that are appropriate. And failing that, Mayfield has no shortage of eager tailors.

There's another brief bit of staring, before she nods- almost a bow this one. "Understood. Thank you greatly for your assurance."

Not at all. Let me know how your foray into social interaction goes.

Another nod.

"I shall." With luck, she'll pick up a few emotions while she's at it...
