[The phone at 1335 Benny rings, but should anyone pick it up, they would only hear the click of a receiver being hung up. Again and again it does this, and only on the last try will the recipient hear anything.]

...Lancer, this is Bazett. Um...would you like...to...come to the prom with me?

[Her face is burning red and her heart is pounding as she asks the question.]

2. Phone to 1334 Benny

Commander.

[This is slightly less awkward than trying to ask Lancer, but still awkward.]

I believe that it is in our best interests to go to the prom. That said...do you think you could go with me?

3. Action; all around Mayfield

[After the sheer awkwardness of the phone calls, Bazett wants to distance herself from their targets. This is why she is wandering around the various stores of Mayfield though she does not really need to buy anything. Still, she could try to see if there are any materials with which she could start setting up a workshop.]

Very well. Are you some sort of Magus? Those dolls seem to be magical.

Not exactly; they're made from magical materials, yes, but the methods are more scientific and alchemical.

I see. And will you tell me what their purpose is for?

[suicidoll]

At the moment, their purpose is helping me with my shopping, as in which materials to buy and helping me carry it home. Otherwise, they're generally for making my life easier...oh, and they're mostly made for offensive purposes.

Are you...planning an attack on anyone?

[suicidoll]

Not at the moment; I don't normally attack anyone in town without reason. The only exception to the rule would be my false husband, Hajime; he frequently brings it upon himself.

I see...then I suppose that as an Enforcer, I will not bother you.

Enforcer...

(Wasn't she told about someone with that title?

...oh yeah, she was!)

Mm? Yes, I am. Have you...heard of me?

I was told about you from a Mr. Solomon. Perhaps you know him?

We...have had less than amiable encounters in the past, yes. What did he tell you about me?

He told me you only know how to be violent, that you will see if my work is evil and try to stop me if it is.

And apparently, you're easily provoked at the mention of demons.

(Kreutzer, you shouldn't be enjoying this as much as you are right now...)

[She definitely thought the vampire would have said something nastier.]

But since it apparently is not, I will not interfere with your business. However, if you ever require aid, you can always come to me and ask.

Good...I'm so glad we can see eye to eye.

(Don't actually look into her eyes, Bazett! The look is a combination of menacing and intimidation.)

You know, everyone in town seems to believe my dolls to be made from some sort of demon magic. I can say with confidence that those beliefs are absolutely false.

[Bazett meets her gaze, but does not cringe. Instead, she just glares back.]

As long as the magic is not used to harm innocents, I do not care much about its source.

[Mayfield had taught her that much, at least.]

Oh no, I'm much more civil than that. Anyone I actually bring harm to is far from innocent.

Then our future meetings will likely be amiable.

[A pause.]

Are those dolls...sentient?

[suicidoll]

Yes they are; they're capable of independent thought, personality and preferences. Artificially, they're just as alive as you and I.

[answerer_sword]

Then are they a sort of familiar?

[She's looking curiously at one of the dolls.]

Not necessarily, but that's close to it. The main 13 I can produce are extensions of myself. However, dolls based on others are, obviously, extensions of their inspirations.

(The particular doll doll Bazett is looking at is currently reading the labels on some of the products and mentioning something to the other dolls about her findings. It's all in english of course, but Kreutzer's mun isn't really up for typing all of that up at the moment.)

And how was this intelligence achieved if no souls were recycled? Was it some sort of human technology?

[If so, technology had really advanced.]

Such is the wonder of 18th century science and alchemy; my skills are unrivaled for a reason.

18th century? Strange...I cannot remember any incidences of magecraft on this level. And a magus who is able to create such ingenious things surely would have either become famous or received a Sealing Designation...

[She continues watching the dolls as she speaks.]

The magecraft in your world must be more advanced than that of mine.

Magecraft and magus may not be the most appropriate terms, given that magic played only a single part in their creation.

It is, however, thanks to powerful magical gems that I was able to accomplish such feats; they possess incredible potential, yet I'm the only person in my world capable of using them.
