[The phone at 1335 Benny rings, but should anyone pick it up, they would only hear the click of a receiver being hung up. Again and again it does this, and only on the last try will the recipient hear anything.]

...Lancer, this is Bazett. Um...would you like...to...come to the prom with me?

[Her face is burning red and her heart is pounding as she asks the question.]

2. Phone to 1334 Benny

Commander.

[This is slightly less awkward than trying to ask Lancer, but still awkward.]

I believe that it is in our best interests to go to the prom. That said...do you think you could go with me?

3. Action; all around Mayfield

[After the sheer awkwardness of the phone calls, Bazett wants to distance herself from their targets. This is why she is wandering around the various stores of Mayfield though she does not really need to buy anything. Still, she could try to see if there are any materials with which she could start setting up a workshop.]

Not necessarily, but that's close to it. The main 13 I can produce are extensions of myself. However, dolls based on others are, obviously, extensions of their inspirations.

(The particular doll doll Bazett is looking at is currently reading the labels on some of the products and mentioning something to the other dolls about her findings. It's all in english of course, but Kreutzer's mun isn't really up for typing all of that up at the moment.)

And how was this intelligence achieved if no souls were recycled? Was it some sort of human technology?

18th century? Strange...I cannot remember any incidences of magecraft on this level. And a magus who is able to create such ingenious things surely would have either become famous or received a Sealing Designation...

[She continues watching the dolls as she speaks.]

The magecraft in your world must be more advanced than that of mine.

Magecraft and magus may not be the most appropriate terms, given that magic played only a single part in their creation.

It is, however, thanks to powerful magical gems that I was able to accomplish such feats; they possess incredible potential, yet I'm the only person in my world capable of using them.

[For a second, she wonders if the woman could have any links to Tohsaka.]

Gems. The ones in my world are magical by nature and by working so closely with them for so long, I've gained their abilities for myself.

[answerer_sword]

Oh? That sounds very different than the magecraft of my world.

[It seems there is no connection to the Tohsaka family after all.]

And how, pray tell, does magic work in your world?

[answerer_sword]

Well, whether or not you can perform magecraft is determined from the moment of your birth based on the magic circuits embedded in your soul and reflected on your body. You channel magical energy or prana through these circuits to perform spells. The goal of magecraft is to replicate miracles and ultimately reach the root, but it can also be used for more mudane things like combat.

[Bazett is part of the second category.]

And yet there are things that even magecraft cannot do, like create sentient dolls without recycling souls.

Circuitry in a soul? How very interesting...but reach the root of what, exactly?

(And at that, Kreutzer smiles proudly.)

It's a talent...perhaps something more that, but it's certainly an incredible feat.

From what I have heard, it is a source and record of all things in the universe. I am not quite sure on its true nature because I have never tried to reach it. Several of the other members of the Association, however, do focus on it.

I see...it sounds like something many would strive for. Hopefully, it's not something people have killed for, is it?

[She sighs.]

It is. There are those who would kill other magi, or submit innocent humans to twisted experiments all for the name of finding the Root. The Association is willing to let small-scale experiments slide, but if an experiment causes damage on too wide of a scale, Enforcers are sent in to stop it.

I see...and you hope to prevent that sort of thing from continuing here, am I right?

If I can.

[She looks morose.]

You really should be careful. You'll get yourself killed...repeatedly. Death isn't something you want to experience more than once...

(As if she has experience with this sort of thing.)

I've already experienced death twice here.

[Not to mention the void, which was much worse.]

And yet you still continue doing what you're doing? I'm not sure if I should call that dedication or insanity...

...nonetheless, you really should be more careful; who's to say repeated deaths won't have added side-effects?

Call it whatever you like. As long as my allies and the other innocent inhabitants of Mayfield remain unhurt, it will not be a big deal.

(Kreutzer was a bit surprised that Bazett didn't attack her so instantly as Merem insisted. Was he perhaps exaggerating? She had no way of finding out...)

And you too. Try not to get killed. Though I doubt you will need this advice, seeing as how you have these dolls.

They make survival much easier. Not guaranteed, but much easier.

In the end, it all depends on your abilities versus the abilities of the opponent.

[And Bazett is very confident in her own abilities. The only one that she knows she definitely cannot defeat is the True Ancestor.]

In most cases, yes. Other times, it may come down to proper planning or pure luck.
