[Action A: Maybe you work at the used car lot, or maybe you're just passing by. Either way, something is very noticeable about it: it's empty. Or rather, there's one car left, and standing in front of it is a drone couple, and a blonde man with a name tag - obviously an employee. The men shake hands and then the smiling couple get in the car and drive off in their beautiful new 195X Nash Rambler. The employee waves them off, a huge grin on his face.]

Enjoy! That car is guaranteed to put a smile on your face for a long time!

[Seems like the Smile Junkie speaks the drones' language. Elmer has managed to sell every car in the damned lot. He looks at the empty lot, satisfied. Of course, Mayfield will restock it in a day or so, but he doesn't know that.]

Okay then, I guess I'm done for the day.

[Action B: Time to share the wealth. Elmer walks into the diner and announces to everyone:]

Oi! Lunch is on me! Order whatever you like, I've got it covered. So smile, okay?

I'll keep an eye out for ya' then. I'm happy not to have to see that girl actin' all drone like in my house. She could barely cook before, and now that the town's gotten her brain, she's a pro. It's scary.

Drone wife, eh? I guess I lucked out, since there's no drones in my house.

She wasn't a drone not too long ago, otherwise I wouldn't care. The drones cook well enough, I just can't stand seeing someone who wasn't one before actin' like 'em.

I haven't seen that happen to anyone yet. Does it really just occur randomly?

Usually. Sometimes, they just act like it for a few days. Usually, that means they haven't gone to work, or the did something the town is punishin' them for, but other times, they just wake up not rememberin' a thing except they've been in this place all their lives, and all the stuff they got from home is gone.

I think that's how you really know, when their stuff is gone.

"Gone for good"... Their body is still here, but their mind is not, that's what you mean? But we can't be too sure about what's really happening, I guess.

I guess that's an easy way to put it. An' you're right, we can never be sure with this place.
