Chapter 12 - From CAST to Cat

[Action A - 458 Stone Street, Morning]

[Waking up in the morning is usually a quick, power-up-and-go affair for Dakki. But this morning was that slow, sleepy, gummy-eyed organic kind of feeling... which immediately had her worried. Had her body been taken away again? But it soon became clear that this wasn't even that poor human substitute body that Mayfield had given her.

She had ears. And tails. And she was shorter. Oh dear.]


AAAAH! What the heck is going on!?

[Have yourself a panicky nekomata, household. And probably a panicky android somewhere upstairs, too.]

[Action B - Around Town]

[Okay, okay. It wasn't so bad being Chen. It was actually kind of neat and different. Because she could float! And also, possibly do that danmaku-spellcard-whee-lotsa-projectiles stuff. So perhaps you'll catch her flying around with a big silly grin on her face. Or maybe you'll have to dodge some stray, wimpy, half-assed little energy bullet things.]



Oops! Ah! I'm sorry! Didn't mean to... really! Hee...

[No wonder Chen was in such good spirits all the time. It was fun to be Chen.]

Hi Gat! I think we're fine! But I have to walk without a tail and it feels weird.

You're not as huge to Dakki as you are to me...

Concentrate my magic? [Woah. This is quite the new concept. She's never really had magic to concentrate before. Her face scrunches up as she tries to detect some sort of... different-feeling-magic-stuff happening.

There's no floating taking place, but her tails start to lash back and forth.]

Aaaah, I don't think I'm doing it right...

[Then ahh! There was Gat! Which sort of startled her, making her jump! ...and then leaving her floating in the air for a few moments, before she whumped back down onto the bed.]

Gat! Gat! ...hey! Gat! Chen says I can fly!

[He looks over to "Dakki." Boy, it's going to be weird for a week knowing that the two of them have switched bodies. Though, weirder for them to be experiencing it ...]

Like Che—er, Dakki said, this can't last more than a week. Nothin' in Mayfield seems to go for longer'n that.

[Gat's attention is drawn to "Chen." He chuckles, watching he floating about before falling.]

Jus' like a Mag, huh? Oughta be glad Alicia ain't here to see this, she'd be green with envy.

(And Chen happily applauses.)

You did it, Dakki! You flew...sort of!

(And of course, Chen has to chime in with that last remark.)

Who's Alicia? Would she be jealous because Dakki flew and she couldn't?

[castnip]

I did! Sort of.

[She's quickly back on her feet (getting better at this all the time), and scrunching her face up to concentrate-concentrate-concentrate again. Oooh, but a question...]

Alicia is Gat's Partner Machine! But before that, she was a Mag. And Mags can float.

[...just like "Chen" is doing now, unconsciously....]

So does that mean she can float? It must be great to have a partner who can float with you!

Alicia used to be able to float. When she was a Mag. But Partner Machines walk.

..huh?

[And she realized that she was floating, and the excitement of it broke her magical concentration-stuff, and back down to the bed she went.]

Aww... I'm getting closer!

You are! You just have to get comfortable with it!

You have to treat it like a cat: if you force it, it won't work very well. You just have to feel it and be comfortable around it and it'll be comfortable around you!
