Chapter 10: Greenill Section ID Day?

[ACTION - A (BACKDATED TO MARCH 17, Anywhere in Mayfield, Morning to Evening, OPEN TO ALL)]

[See that six-foot android covered head to toe in some sort of armor, going about his business?]

[He's not wearing green. At all.]

[Try to pinch him. Go on, try it.]

[ACTION - B (BACKDATED TO MARCH 17, John Doe Park, Afternoon, OPEN TO ALL)]

[That same android now seems to have a couple of drones following him, even hanging on to him, desperately trying to pinch him—on the hard, armored parts of his body. Suffice to say, they're not having much luck—and the android looks a little annoyed as he tries to brush some of the drones off of him.]

What in th' hell are ya'll on about?

[ACTION - C (BACKDATED TO MARCH 17, Olney's Tavern, Evening, OPEN TO ALL)]

[Gat's noticed the sizable amount of patrons heading toward the tavern, both droned and undroned alike. Curious, he's come to the tavern himself, though judging from the way he carries himself and rubs the back of his helmeted head as he scans the tavern ~~in a manner not unlike the Terminator~~, he's a little perplexed.]

[There's a voice Gat hasn't heard in a month or two! Gat looks up from one of the giggling drones pestering him.]

Lucas! What's gotten into these here drones—?!

I... don't have any idea... They've been doing it to a lot of people all day.

[Lucas is spared because the light jacket he is wearing has green on the cuffs, but he has been otherwise bewildered.]

Hold on a moment.

[PSI Shield! And then suddenly the drones cannot even get to the armor. Poor things.]

[Now they're just trying to punch the PSI barrier! Gat sighs in relief.]

I swear, if it ain't one thing it's another 'round here.

I would put this above zombies or falling in love, at least.

[Lucas trots a little closer with a smile.]

[Gat looks over to Lucas as he approaches, giving the drones a quick glance back before chuckling. Now that they're not crowding him, watching the drones trying to pinch the PSI barrier looks rather silly!]

Definitely above th' zombies, for sure.

I think it's probably another holiday of some kind. I don't think I remember it, though... And I've been here two years already.

Certainly would explain everyone wearin' green, but ...

[Gat tilrs his head.]

This is th' first time you've it bein' celebrated 'round these parts?

If it's not, there was a lot less of a fuss about it before. I don't think the town's ever done anything terrible for this one.

...I know April Fool's Day is coming up soon, though.

April Fool's? I ain't heard of that holiday either. What's that one about?

It's about playing jokes on people.

[Lucas is thoughtful for a few moments.]

Last year, the town tricked us into thinking people's souls were being used to make the town run. That's why everyone was so happy to attack the Dairy a few months ago - I don't know why they still believed in it even after the town fooled us.

[Gat shakes his head slowly, in a manner that expresses his disgust.]

So of course th' town plays its own sorry joke on us folks.

Makes me wonder if'n what they found in th' Dairy this year really was that there "revival machine." Or jus' misdirection an' excuses to torment us further.

...I don't know if I think so. I know it seems like the town does everything it can to spite us, but I think there are a lot of ways in which the town is very honest, too. It doesn't break its own rules.

[Gat gives a "hrm" in thought.]

Have ya noticed anything along those lines? Things stickin' out as rules they don't break.

I reckon I ain't been here long enough to notice enough patterns.

It's a bit like...

They do leave clues. And hints. It's almost like a game. They say they have the filters - sometimes it seems like they say it just to make sure that we know, and then they say things that are important. And we hear it.

It's either all fake, or... it's all true.

[Gat holds a knuckle up to where his mouth would be if he were a human.]

SO that ain't just a recent thing? They've been discussin' their plans for th' townsfolk jus' before every incident?

That Mayor, I noticed, he seems to think he's "trained" us.

I wouldn't say every one, but enough that it doesn't seem as if they realize we can hear them.

Come to think of it, I recall hearin' one phone call where that Jack Smith fella was assurin' th' Mayor th' lines were secure.

I see what you mean, now. Either they're pretendin' they don't know we can hear 'em and are usin' th' phone calls as misdirection, or ...

... Well, I wonder who among 'em would let us folks listen in on what they're sayin'.

[Lucas blinks.]

Oh! ...I'd never thought about that!

...If it's going to be anyone, it would be the Librarian. But I don't know if she'd really helps us out like that... It could be the Mailman, too, but only if it worked with his own plans.

So there's two possible suspects who'd be doin' it ... An' th' Postman's got his own agenda.

I wonder if it'd be possible to try an' talk to either of 'em. I know what people've said about th' Post Office, but maybe he'll be up for jus' jawin' for a lil' while.

...I haven't talked to him since... that one time.

[Lucas's eyes flicker to the ground momentarily.]

Um. The Librarian, though - I know people have tried to find and talk to her before.

[Gat rubs his chin in thought.]

Have any of 'em had any luck with that?

Hmm...

I think, maybe. We overheard a conversation between her and Billy once. She definitely didn't want to be here.

Huh ... so then it is true. Not all th' civil servants're united in keepin' us imprisoned here.

[Valuable information to be sure, but ...]

Th' Librarian's still around, right? They ain't done nothin' to her?

She... should be. The only people I know of who are gone are... Jane and Officer Grady.

Jane bein' ... th' special drone you mentioned a while back? Jane Smith?

[And he recalls the other name Lucas gave for her—Samantha Achewood.]

Then th' former chief of police was Officer Grady?
