[Mac wakes up. Mac is wearing pajamas that he's never seen before in a room he's also never seen before.

He very carefully gets up, walks calmly to his bedroom door, and glances out into the hallway. Nope, he is definitely not in his apartment or at Foster's. He shuts the door again, digs around until he finds some clothes (that he's also never seen before, what does whoever lives here have against cargo?), gets dressed, opens his bedroom door again...

And starts to scream.]

AHHHHHHHHHHHHAHA! [Yep, he's opening doors and slamming them shut at random, running up and down the hallway like, well, a panicked kid. How appropriate!

In the midst of his screaming and opening/shutting doors, he can be heard shouting the following as well:]

Where's my mom? Where's my brother?! What's happening?? Where am I?!?

[ b. phone (open) ]

Okay. Okay. Not panicking. Ahhhhh. Why won't my number work. Why won't my mom's cell work. It's okay, Mac, pull it together...You're done panicking...

[He kind of wheezes into the phone. He has no idea who he's actually talking to.]

[ c. action on the mean clean streets (also open) ]

[Nothing to see here, just a morose and somewhat twitchy kid walking to school. His not!mom told him he had to go, and gave him a bookbag to carry with him that he hates purely on virtue of it not being his tried and true backpack, which he also couldn't find this morning. But he is basically done with panicking for now, at least.]

[Mac stops walking to look for the person yelling at him, and gives a (somewhat less enthusiastic) greeting back in return.]

Hey.

[kinship]

I haven't seen you before, are you new to the school today?

[macdaddy]

Yeah, it's my first day. [he sounds so resigned.]

[kinship]

Don't look so sad about it, it's not that bad...

[macdaddy]

It's not school that I'm sad about.

[kinship]

[He must be new to the town, right..? Or else Cain would remember seeing him around the school before.]

It is a bit overwhelming at first, but we'll find a way to get back home sooner or later. Just try to cheer up, I'm sure your friends at home wouldn't want you to be sad.

[macdaddy]

You really think somebody will find a way?

[kinship]

Definitely!

[He might look cheerful, but he's also REALLY DETERMINED.]

Just because it hasn't been done yet, doesn't mean it won't be done. We have to keep looking forwards and eventually we'll get there.

[macdaddy]

[well, at the very least his confidence is reassuring!]

You've got a pretty confident outlook on things.

[kinship]

Pessimism isn't going to get us anywhere.

[He shrugs, pulling his satchel onto his shoulders more firmly.]

If scientists had simply said it was impossible to ever travel into space just because it hadn't been done before, we wouldn't have ever invented rockets. But people looked forwards and carried on, confident they'd achieve what they wanted to one day. And we can do the same, I know it.

I don't think that's the best comparison...

It's the exact same principle... we just have to keep trying, otherwise we've lost before we even start.

[macdaddy]

I guess you've got a point. Kind of.

[He gives Mac a cheesy grin and thumbs up.]
