[A. 339 Brady Lane]

[For what has been over a month, the house has been host to a drone. Mika's drone has been quiet and demure, a perfect housewife on top of her nursing duties at the hospital. Thankfully no one is at home when she snaps out of it, as no one is around to hear her screaming in horror as she realizes what's been done to her.

But when everyone gets back, they'll find Mika in a foul mood, having managed to avoid the flowers springing up by simply being too angry to notice.]

[B. Phone]

All right, what the hell have I missed? What day is it and how long have I been a drone?

[C. Streets]

[Mika is in a dark mood as she limps along, on a walk to clear her head from the left-over cottony feel of the droning. Ears flat and hackles up, she hardly seems to have noticed the explosions of color around her...yet.]

Well, I guess that's good, or I'd be bleeding to death from gunshot wounds and lightning spells. Fantastic.

[She snorts heavily, her ears flattening again.]

Nothing I haven't dealt with before, the experimenting would be new though. Still...not entirely unusual from what I've been through, I'd just hoped I wouldn't deal with things like that here. Guess I didn't, at the cost of being a zombie.

[Her mouth twists.]

Don't know what I'm regretting though, it's not like I'd have been helpful.

[ He frowns. ]

Hey. I know you would have done all you could. That's all anyone could ask of you. [ He plucks a rose from a nearby windowsill, offering it to her ] Cheer up. That look doesn't suit you.

I don't know, I seem to get in the way or cause more trouble than I help.

[She'd make a joke about how this is the way her face usually looks, but the flower startles her.]

Wha-- [She huffs, her tail wagging even in her surprise.]

Thanks, Ian. [No one's ever gotten her flowers before, even if it was just plucked off a window. Hesitating a moment, she turns the rose in her hands before sniffing it.]

You know how to fight, don't you? Or at least defend yourself.

[ He smiles, resting a hand on her shoulder ] Any time. Though, I confess I have no idea why the town is covered in flowers. Some kind of festival, maybe?

[For a moment Mika doesn't respond, too busy staring at nothing to say anything. When she does, it's kind of dreamy.]

Not really, no....I'm just...I'm just lucky.

[The hand on her shoulder pulls her out of this fog, and she meets his gaze, and it's like something's dawned on her for the very first time. Her ears perk up, her tail starts wagging, and her stare is far more intense than it's ever been before.]

Sort of, it's called Valentine's Day. It's named after a saint, but most of the stories are just romanticized myths, the most common is he married a couple in secret that couldn't marry otherwise if I remember right.

[How had she never noticed the way his eyes shine and his scales gleam? Maybe she had but never thought about it before? How could she not notice something so important?]

Well, I can probably help with that.

[ The look on her face catches him off-guard, and he blinks a couple of times. Why was she looking at him like that? He sort of nods absently at her explanation, clearly confused. ]

Are you all right?

I'm fine.

[Her cheeks flush a delicate shade of pink, out of something that wasn't horror or anger for once. Why had she always taken his company for granted before? Leaning close, she rubs her face against his shoulder, making a soft sound low in her throat.]

Everything is fine.

[ fskjsdfk whoa, whoa, whoa. Now it's just getting weird. They've hugged before, but this was entirely different.

He takes a step back, clasping a hand on either shoulder, trying to get a good look at her. They're the same height, so it's not that hard to do. ]

Are you certain? You're acting strange all of a sudden.

[Love is a very powerful drug, and for the first time in her life, Mika has had the great misfortune of being smacked right in the face with it. Her cheeks are flushed, her pupils dilate when their eyes meet, and she seems to be making a low crooning sound deep in her chest.]

But I feel fine.

[As fine as any girl can be when she's trying to decide how best to tell someone she's desperately in love with them, at any rate. Maybe he'll say no because they're different species? That would be awful.]

You're turning red. [ She doesn't look fine, and frankly it's got Ian worried. He places the back of his hand against her forehead, checking for a fever ]

[She has to stifle a small giggle, but her skin feels normal, despite the fact that she's acting like some twitterpated schoolgirl. Tail wagging, she offers him the rose as well.]

I'm fine, Ian. Trust me.

Well... I guess I did want you to smile. [ And she is smiling! Not that he knows why.

He does take the flower, though. ] Is there a reason you're giving this back? Does it not smell nice enough?

[She is smiling because he's the greatest thing that ever happened to her, not that she knew that until two minutes ago, but still!]

Why don't you find out for yourself! I've always loved roses, I think you might like it.

[ A shrug- he'll oblige her on this one- and he takes a sniff. ]

Ah, I guess it does smell rather nice.

[ He smiles, which turns into something a bit different when his eyes finally drift from the rose in his hand back to her face. It's like he's seeing her for the first time- she's beautiful, and he finds himself captivated. ]

Isn't it?

[It doesn't smell nearly as good as he does, though. Mika doesn't even notice when she starts to lean closer, tail curling as she gets lost in his eyes.]

[ The rose is easily forgotten- Ian lets it slip through his fingers as he reaches up to brush his hand along her cheek, fingers eventually threading through her hair.

He finds himself stepping closer, leaning in enough to touch their foreheads together ]

It pales in comparison to you.

I don't know about that...

[She huffs softly, her smile wry as her gaze falls. She knows she looks like she's half dead, but the fact that he still says it anyway makes her cheeks feel hot.

Their noses bump, and her tail wags even more. Taking the edge of his coat in her hand, she fidgets with it.]

But I know that you're one of the best things that's ever happened to me.

[She meets his gaze with a small smile.]

I'm not sure why I didn't see it before.

[ He smiles back- a warm, genuine smile, that's meant only for her ]

I love you, Mika.

I love you too, Ian.

[And with that she's pulling him close, her eyes closed as her lips touch his. This isn't quite how she'd always thought she'd give someone her first kiss, but she's certain it's the best thing she's ever done.]

[ He slips his free arm around her waist, holding her close. It's not his first kiss- not by a long shot- but he treats it as though it is. It's something special, and meant to be cherished, so he kisses her back with all the tenderness he possesses ]

[Even her winter coat of fur doesn't warm her up like his kiss does, and she seems to almost melt into his arms, almost wishing the moment could last forever. Today is the best day ever.]

[ He has to pull away eventually, mostly because he's smiling too much to really kiss her back properly. He does keep her close, though.

He should find this weird that it happened so suddenly, but he has no such thoughts. He's in love, and it's the best feeling in the world. ]

You are... simply amazing.

[For someone whose life had been nothing but a train wreck of misery and despair over the past few years, the swell of emotions she was feeling was utterly indescribable. Mika grumbled with happiness, rubbing her cheek against him before resting her head on his shoulder.

Normally she would already be screaming with horror, the more rational parts of her mind would have been rabid at the sudden changes in behaviour. At least, if it had been seen in anyone else she knew well. Unfortunately or otherwise, she was in a blissful state of ignorance that left her without any cares.]

I could say the same about you.

[ He hasn't felt this way in years- not since... it doesn't even seem important now, not with Mika right here in front of him.

He threads his fingers in her hair, sighing happily ]

Perhaps this is not the best place for this, my love. In the eyes of the town, you are still a married woman, after all.

[Her hair is soft and fluffy, a texture more like fur than human hair that easily transitioned into proper fur at the base of her ears. Mika's ears twitched as he spoke and she let out a quiet chuckle.]

A married woman who sleeps on the couch because she can't stand the smell of cigarettes and barely knows the man she's married to. They've already droned me for nearly two months, what more can they do to me? I'm not afraid of them.

[Nuzzling his cheek was much better than worrying about getting caught. Besides, didn't the town count Ian as a pet anyway? Really, what could they do?]
