[Of all the unexpected scenarios--just what is this place?

After Lelouch wakes up, he begins to explore the house. He isn't looking for anything in particular, but he can be found throughout the house in various rooms looking through cupboards or drawers, seemingly at random. Shouldn't he be frightened, or at least panicked? No, the surprise of the situation seems to have more of a numbing effect on Lelouch.

He continues to search the house impassively while collecting his thoughts. At some point, he expects to run into the members of his new "family."]

My name is Lelouch, and I'm a newcomer. I woke up in Mayfield for the first time today.

Is there anyone who would claim to be a representative of the people here?

My first assumption would be that those of you trapped here have united in some way to oppose your captors. Am I wrong? This prison seems to be rather quiet and somewhat placid, but having just arrived, who am I to say?

I would like to open a dialogue and take anyone's opinion on the current state of affairs in Mayfield. I'll leave this line open. If you want to refute anything being said, then you are welcome to. No person should hold an opinion that he or she is not willing to defend. If that prospect doesn't scare you off, then I would be happy to hear your thoughts.

I see. Is there only one? Do people discuss its movements and actions openly?

One general group, yes. The only time I have actually seen it in action is, ah... [She pauses, and flips through some pages in the background.] When a zombie apocalypse broke out. Infected a good portion of the town.

Discussion is generally open, yes, but filtered and away from the drones and town hierarchy.

I assume this town hierarchy set up this phone line themselves. I wonder if securing it completely is even possible.

[He pauses.]

What other… things, like this "zombie apocalypse," have happened?

Most likely. But one is able to hack conversations between the town's hierarchy members very easily. I've done it myself.

Hello, Lelouch. My name is Ozma. We do not have a sole representative of the people here, but should you like, I can speak behalf of my own thoughts. This is Mayfield, a city which currently holds no known escape. Our captors seem to be just as out of control as we are, with frequent surprise strange happenings, usually around the time of Earth holidays.

Earth holidays are the only holidays that I know exist. Is there some reason to make the distinction?

Not everyone here has been to, or is from Earth. In fact, I would say most of our neighbors are not from Earth.

I find that rather amazing. How many other planets are represented?

Aliens to you perhaps, but I wouldn't advise calling that.

Too many to count- though I have tried to count, and know we have at least three dozen. Also represented are several citizens of alternate realities, people from different times and places. Miraculously we can all communicate with each other without much difficulty.

[ There are a lot of loud noises coming from Nena's kitchen. If Lelouch chooses to investigate what he'll find is a total mess.

Flour, pink coloring dye, and sugar little the entire kitchen with burnt cookie sheets and broken plates lying on the ground from their thorough abuse. There's also a jar of bleach for whatever reason sitting on the counter. Eggs and milk can be found in the floor, but in surprisingly not large quantities. Nena, unaware of Lelouch's presence, continues to pour some type of pink mix into something that you fill to make cupcakes.

Enjoy your new not!daughter Lelouch. You're going to hate your family in Mayfield. I guarantee it. ]

[Lelouch watches her briefly with what might be considered perverse fascination. After a little while, though, he clears his throat.]

[ Nena turns to him, completely startled. Startled enough to raise the frying pan in some cautious type of defense. ]

Who are you?! And what are you doing in Nena's kitchen!? You can't get cupcakes until they're ready and you're not going to steal them either!

[ Yep. Lelouch. You obviously invaded her kitchen for her baked goods, you monster! ]

You would think that is how people would react, alas there is yet to be someone who will take that leadership role and unite everyone. There are factions yes, but nothing cohesive.

To be honest, that fact is beginning to surprise me less and less. The population of Mayfield seems to be incredibly diverse; in a way, smaller factions would make more sense.

To an extent. However those factions do not seem to be particularly strong. Those with leaders leave much to be desired and even with smaller groups there is too much chaos.

Why is that? What do you suppose causes so much chaos among the different groups? Is it because there's conflict between factions?
