[ Action ]
( Library - Morning )
[ Charles has gotten quite used to life in Mayfield since he had arrived. It was even easier to get around in a wheelchair now. He had even developed a routine until the school year had ended. Now, he was developing a new routine. His day always started at the library, going through a few books. Anyone who notices him there, would find that he pulls things off the shelf, puts them on his lap, and decides if he would like to read. Once he has several books, he moves to a table, and settles down there with about seven books. ]
( General Store - Early Afternoon )
[ Charles always intends for his trip to the general store to be quick. He never gets much. Just a lined notebook, a graph notepad, a new pen, juice, and a snack for the day. He's just browsing through the aisles and seems to be enjoying the quiet. ]
( John Doe Park - Mid Afternoon - Early Evening )
[ Charles leaves himself sitting near the edge of the park. He leaves the juice and chips in the bag hanging over the arm of his chair, as he starts with the graph paper. He's plotting out moves in chess games. He occasionally says things out loud, mumbles, though. Nothing anyone could really understand, at least. ]
[ Phone; Evening - Unfiltered ]
I see that things have settled down; however, is anyone in need of assistance? I understand things such as this can have a bit of a lasting aftermath and I don't really expect everyone to be okay for a little while.
[ He pauses. ]
Also, I was wondering if anyone here knows where I can obtain a chessboard, and if anyone knows how to play. I would love to play it with someone soon, if it is possible.

General Store
She pauses though, picking up a journal and flips it over in her hand. She looks over and sees a man in a wheelchair coming down the aisle and steps a bit to the side to make room for him.]
Good afternoon. [She smiles a little, polite as always.] Lovely day outside, isn't it?
no subject
It is quite nice. Indoor's isn't my preferred place in this weather.
[ But still, he makes sure his hands are free and offers one to her. ]
Charles.
no subject
Indeed it is. Sometimes I think an outdoor market would be a much better idea.
[She leans over a little as she reached out and takes his hand within her own and shakes.]
It's lovely to meet you, Charles, I'm Inara.
no subject
[ It is so interesting to learn things, even as simple as a name, on his own. Being without his skill for over a month taught him how. He doesn't even need it right now. ]
It would be fantastic. They could use the park for something like that, I think.
[ It would certainly get people to the park, at least. ]
no subject
If only it was as easy as thinking it.
[She studies him for a moment.]
I know this could be considered rather personal, but do you mind me asking how long you've been here? I don't remember seeing you before. [Though to be fair she's been rather preoccupied by the strangeness of the entire town.]
no subject
[ His smile softens. He is perfectly comfortable talking about small details like that. ]
I've been here two months. That is hardly personal. [ His eyes fall briefly on his chair, and then back up to her. ] I have a disadvantage involving me getting around.
[ He's good humored about it to keep from making others uncomfortable. ]
no subject
[Though truly, with the way the town could be? It really wasn't all that surprising.
Her gaze moves slowly over his wheelchair.]
So I can see. Has the town at least done anything to better accommodate you?
no subject
I'm going to the park, would you like to walk with me? [ Smile. ]
no subject
[She beams at him.]
I'd be absolutely delighted. I just need to pay for this, [She motions to the journal she's holding.] and it would appear you have some purchases of your own to make. Shall we?
no subject
I do, just some small things. I will meet you near the door. [ Already making his way to the check-out. ]
no subject
After you.
no subject
And thank you for joining me.
no subject
She grins as she walks along side him.]
You're welcome, though I must admit, it wouldn't have been right to turn down such an offer from such an attractive and charming man.
no subject
I'm surprised people are right back to going outside as if nothing happened before, basically.
no subject
[And then she's sighing softly.] I think in this place we all have basically learned that we have to keep moving forward and not truly dwell on... well, the things that happen here.
no subject
I don't think I've yet mastered that skill. It may take some practice.
no subject
I'm certain you'll get the hang of it. Though, if it makes you feel any better, I'm still trying to master that skill.
no subject
[ Hard to tell if he's sincere or just flirting here. Maybe both. He looks up towards her. ]
I won't be too eager, it gives me something to do in the down time, at least.
no subject
Surely you have something else to do to occupy your time.
no subject
[ Smile. ]
I teach and the school year ends, so not right now, at least. It's a disappointing. What do you do to pass the time?
no subject
Here? Oh, they have me working as a housewife so I have plenty of time to do whatever I want, like reading and I do some backing, but I read a lot. [Translated to, she's pretty bored most of the time.]
no subject
Here and at home. I love to teach. I'm sure as long as I have that, adapting here will be much easier. [ the summer break left him too much time to think, and he was still struggling to keep occupied. ]
It doesn't hurt to know others are going through the same thing...regardless.
no subject
[She looks down at him, and is glad to have run into him so to speak. She's finding she rather likes his company.] What do you teach?
no subject
I teach biology. Specialize in genetic mutations at home, but...biology here. It seems the town was kinder to me than it was to others. Maybe sometime the city will return to you a book from your home. At least it would be something new?
no subject
Genetic mutations? [Her eyebrows lift a little and she can't help but think Serenity had found on Miranda. Though she didn't think that was the sort of thing he'd be involved with, or at least she hoped not.
Her smile grew a bit.]
Yes, a book from home would indeed be lovely. Though, I admit I find the literature here pretty sufficient. Some of the books I'd only heard about, so it's nice to actually have a chance to read them.
