Non-Adventure; Cade gains his healing magic back
Cade in uncharacteristically bummed. He had something really... special going while he was his alternate self, but now things are worse than before. He now has to go about his day trying to snap out of it.
[A. 305 Miller Street.]
[When Cade opens the front door this morning, there are two packages there. One is for him, and the other is for Jenny. He takes them inside and sets them on the table.
Upon opening his package, he finds his rapier, which his alternate had traded in for his healing powers. Now he has both. That's good, he guesses. He sighs, and looks at Jenny's box. It is much smaller.
Cade calls upstairs.]
"Jenny... you have a package. I think it might be something from your home."
[B. Phone.]
"*Sigh* Hey everyone... it's Cade Masters.
I just thought everyone should know that I have some powerful healing magic now. Diseases, poisons, wounds, you name it, I can probably take care of it for you. I won't charge you or anything either, so if you need it, or have any questions, just give me a ring."
[C. 339 Brady Lane.]
[Cade knocks on the door of Brady Lane. If anyone could use his healing, its Mika. Plus it will make him feel better to see his friend.]
[D. Olney's Tavern.]
[Cade is back at work, serving drinks. His heart isn't in it like usual, though.]

C
Hey Cade, heard the phone announcement earlier. I take it you got something in the mail, then? Or did you talk to the post man at the office?
Re: C
"A little of both. The... other me didn't know why he had a sword, and took it to the post office to trade to get my healing spells back. When things went back to normal, a package arrived at my house with my sword in it, but I still kept the spells."
no subject
Come in, then.
[She pulled the door open and jerked her head as a means of inviting him, staying partially hidden behind the door until she closed it behind him. Her sleeves were rolled up and she was in tailored trousers, and looked like she'd been in the middle of some strenuous cleaning when she'd answered the door. The half-scrubbed blackened murals on the walls were the most likely subjects of her cleansing furor.]
So, what can I do for you?
no subject
"Hey, don't be mad at me about it! I couldn't remember promising to avoid the post office when I went, hells, I thought I was a doctor from Caisleain!"
[Cade looks about at the murals.]
"Actually, its more about what I can do for you. I promised I'd find you help, or help you myself when I could. Now that I have my healing spells back..."
no subject
[Her ears droop, and she seemed to sag as she turned back to pick up her rags and bucket of soapy water. No sense in leaving a job half-done, she didn't want the charcoal to set again and make her job harder. What the hell had she been thinking when she drew these wards? They were insanely complex and detailed. Mika couldn't remember for the life of her where she'd even seen anything like them.]
It's not like I got all these injuries in regular fights, Cade.
[She huffed as she got back to scrubbing, staring intently at the marks on the wall while she thought.]
Did I ever properly explain to you what it was like in that place? All the things that happened there?
no subject
"Somewhat... Torturing and killing you over and over... It sounded pretty horrific...
But the magic of the White Well is potent stuff! Even if your wounds are resistant, I'm sure they'll be healed somewhat, and with regular treatments, we might make a lot of progress.
At any rate, you should notice an immediate decrease in any pain you've been feeling!"
no subject
[Her voice is quiet and her hand goes still, and she's not staring at the wall so much as she's staring through it.]
I was being hunted by it. The whole place, the whole town, it was...it was alive and full of monsters and the ghosts of its victims and things I don't think even have proper names or shapes. I nearly lost the use of my right leg because I got too close to the lake, and the thing that lived in it snapped me up and nearly ripped me in half. I'm lucky I can even walk, Cade. I'm lucky I can even stand I lost so much muscle when it tore me to pieces.
[She's starting to shake, and her grip tightens on her rag and she scrubs more furiously now than she had before.]
I remember too many things about that place, stuff I shouldn't have lived through by any means, but the town wanted a fresh host so it kept me alive as much as possible. It liked playing with its food.
[She shook herself, scrubbing her face with the back of her hand before looking up at him again, her ears folding flat.]
You can't do anything to ease up on the dreams, can you?
no subject
"I'm sorry, but I can only heal the physical, even if I had all my magic back.
But, I did find someone in town. She's a psychiatrist and a witch. I talked to her, and she seems to think she can help, but only if you want her too. I know you've had bad experiences with doctors who don't believe you, but she seems pretty familiar with the spiritual world..."
no subject
[She sighs, the sound shuddery as if she's having difficulty fighting off tears.]
I think, after this last week, I'm more scared of letting people inside. What if there's something waiting inside me, looking for a way to lash out? What if I'm still a host, and I'm carrying part of that...that thing that kept the town alive? What if it can escape?
no subject
I'm sure whatever you got in there, someone in this town can help you with it. There are people here who can do stuff even I can barely believe!"
no subject
[She scowls as her mind tries to wrap around this new information, mouth hanging open and her nose wrinkling. Snapping out of it, she shakes her head, then arches an eyebrow at him.]
Really? Like what?
no subject
...but that's not here or now. Mika, I really think I can help your physical injuries. If you are willing to let me try, that is..."
no subject
[Cade you have all of her interest, right now. This very second. Because holy shit there are mechas in town and she is pretty sure she knows what that means.
Oh wait healing right. That is kind of a thing. The sudden return to the original topic deflates her excitement a bit.]
I...I guess so.
[She goes quiet for a moment then remembers their talk about his healing abilities.]
...It's not going to be all weird, is it?
no subject
"Well, I can promise it won't hurt. At all.
But... there is a small chance that it might feel much... nicer to you than normal, to a point where you might feel embarrassed...
But I can stop any time you want! And I'll start off at low intensity, just in case. It'll be totally under your control!"
no subject
[She sighs, her ears drooping.]
Honestly I don't know what's worse, the idea of it hurting, the idea of it being too nice, or not doing it at all and staying a cripple. Awkwarddddddd...
no subject
Honestly, like nine out of ten people just feel it as a soothing warmth like a bath or something, so it probably won't even be an issue anyway."
no subject
[She wrinkles her nose, her ears flicking back as she scrubs the wall.]
Do these wards make any sense to you? Maybe not since we're from different worlds, but I don't remember coming across anything like these when I researched demonic or spiritual protection.
no subject
"Well, to be honest, I'm kind of a dilettante when it comes to magic - outside of healing - so I'm probably not the best guy to ask. But it looks like a very complex Magic Circle to me, so some sort of abjuration against demons... or something?"
no subject
That would make sense. Trapped in a place full of demons and malicious spirits, I'd probably keep looking until I found some way of warding them off. If only I knew where I'd found it, I'd try to replicate it. But I don't want to re-make this if I don't know its full purpose.
Damn! [She growls, her ears folding flat.] If only those memories were a little clearer I could at least remember what this was for!
no subject
You know, I know at least one woman in town who can see magic. I can ask her if she wants to take a look...
when she's talking to me again, that is..."
no subject
Cade, what did you do?
no subject
...It wasn't anything bad anyways. Everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves. Really, really enjoy themselves. Except, you know, they weren't themselves, so afterwards... awkwardness... and such..."
no subject
But yeah, I can see how that would be a problem. After all, there's quite a few people I met for the first time while I was out of my mind.
no subject
But I go around acting all disinterested -and honestly kind of meek- for three days and half a dozen women in town are just... throwing themselves at me. Him. Throwing themselves at him."
no subject
[She smiles apologetically and shrugs.]
It's all in the way the cards are played. If I hadn't been out of my mind I probably would've found the different you interesting too. I don't know what to tell you, Cade.

Sorry the reply to this was so delayed, was gone for a while!
It's okay! I've been busy with work.
