Phase 6 - Purger
♫ BGM: HARMONIUS (Lyrics)
The evening before it all began, the girl tossed and turned in her bed. It felt like even with all she's tried to do and say to people, there's no reason for her to do all this. Her plea to Dakki was just as much her own wish to run away from the reality of Mayfield as it was to help free her surrogate mother from looking like she had to do something more. And yet, here she was, trying to stay optimistic and help the town stay in good spirits when she has no more reason to.
She clutches at her sides as if to hug herself, not sure why she even does that. There isn't a reason to act out any of these feelings, these emotions, but she does it anyway. It makes her feel better, even if by a small amount. There has to be some meaning in it, if she can find meaning in it without wanting to, without having to think about it. It's the same that goes for every hug that she feels, for every song that she's sang, and for every belief she's had.
"Is this what you went through, Misha, Lady Shurelia...? Mir..."
The question goes unanswered. Two of them were never here. The Star Singer, Misha, used to be here, but was just a written person that never came back even when Aurica did. What meaning Aurica's wondering carries lie in the world that forever remains a memory for her, even if that place is real. None of those people were really humans to begin with, unlike the girl in that bed, so they must have questioned their identity at times as well.
But if they could still have emotions, and feel things because of that, they're just as human as we are...
It's not really surprising to Aurica how easily she accepts everything that's been realized, about herself and this place. She's known another example besides herself, from long long ago. One time, a created being was born, and she was meant to surpass even the Administrator of the Tower's power. She was created with no emotions at all, meant to have none, to possess the highest purity to sing songs, meant to become a weapon of destruction by those that created her.
In time though, she developed feelings despite their intentions, and because of that she couldn't help but create a song, a song meant to show her love of her world that she was born into. Her creators didn't like that at all and took that song away from her, along with the rest of her humanity that she developed, if only for a time. Of course she would have been brokenhearted, to hear that her fathers never wanted her to exist as she did, to hear them say terrible things to her, to have her life's meaning imposed upon.
Eventually she would decide, after seeing how segregated and suppressed the Reyvateils were on top of her own turmoil, that Humans had no right to have such control over them, and so she took it upon herself to wage her own war against the Tower. Countless lives were lost because of that tragedy, but that never stopped her in her rage against humankind. Even when she was trapped and suppressed by the Chronicle Key, even when she was exiled to the Binary Field within the Tower, she created Viruses and tormented the people that lived there.
Finally, a group of people took the fight to Mir. It wasn't against Mir herself, thankfully, as they came to learn her story. Instead, it was a fight of ideals. Surely, if she could relearn the kindness humanity is capable of, she would cease her relentless attack. The song that Aurica recalls now was not one that either herself or that Reyvateil sung, but the Star Singer's own interpretation of that song that was created when the being first developed that understanding of emotions. It was their bid that the combination of retelling Mir's own song to her, along with Lyner's unstoppable love of the world and the people in it, would quell her hatred.
Even at the risk of the Tower itself falling apart from what Mir planned to do, the boy in her heart pressed on, as it was the only right thing to do to save everyone, including Mir herself. At first, no one wanted to follow suit, but part of why they changed their mind was the only person who immediately agreed with him. That person, someone who had her own eyes opened because of that boy, wanted to believe that Mir could have her eyes opened as well. She held fast against the criticisms of the others, fully supporting Lyner with all of her heart.
But that didn't happen here. Zemekis died in a pool of his own blood, even if he was going to die soon anyway. It could have been called an act of mercy, but the reason it was done wasn't for mercy, or for wanting to understand the being that controlled the town for so long. The reason was for "justice", a sense of vindication and vengeance, even if it was warranted after everything that happened. It was part of the truth that Garviel left her with and the turning point in both of their lives, for even if they both were dulled in some way to the pains of life, they were in the end different people. Even if he relented afterwards, with everyone voicing their objections, he still chose a different method to resolve things.
Despite that, she can't help but chastise herself, thinking there was something more she could have done. Even so, the girl in the bed couldn't have realistically done anything to help. She was barely aware of something going on behind the curtains, and even then she was more focused on defeating the ideal of the man rather than helping him. She only wanted everyone to be happy without being told how. She felt that it was more important for their feelings to be natural rather than imposed, because they were valid, and no one had the right to take them away.
None of this quells the rising apathy in her, to just not want to do anything anymore, because it was starting to feel again like she can't do anything to help. The world they live in will end soon, no matter what they do now. Many people are still trying to come to terms with their own realizations, and some will never be able to resolve that.
A morbid feeling begins to creep up in her again, as if to combat the sense of self she desperately holds onto under the surface. What if it's alright, then, to go against what we were told to do? It's happened once already; Zemekis wanted Mayfield to be happy, for himself to be happy, but many people rejected what means were used toward that end.
Would it be wrong to also ignore how we were "meant" to be like...? Would that mean it'd be alright to bring mercy to—
She shudders and shakes her head, trying to forget the very thought of what she was contemplating. If there is no justice in murder, then there's no need to cause further damage to what's already happened, whether it's to herself or anyone else. Even if everything else is fake in the end, Zemekis was real, and he desired happiness. To honor that memory, and all the feelings she genuinely holds, is all that she can rightly do.
With all of that and more swirling in her "head", she closes her eyes and finally dozes off.
[Action - Anywhere in Mayfield]
[No, stop this! Please! I can't take this anymore!
Her internal plea holds no weight against the imposed control overriding her body, her emotions fighting in vain. It's been like this ever since she woke up the next morning, her body seeking out anything still alive to kill, defenseless or not. It's like she's locked up in a cage, just like being a drone, but that's different from now, her being sent to murder without a reason of her own. Helpless, all she can do is watch herself commit these acts in her own horror.
Unfortunately, Song Magic feeds on emotions very well — in fact, it's the very thing it needs to thrive.]
Was quel erra, exec sosar "Boom"!
Was quel ra, exec sosar "Boom"!
(In this lasting stress, I execute the magic of "Boom"!)
[If you heard this chant, a language that sounds like a bizarre mix of many known Earth languages, you might have also seen a pink and rotating ball of light held in the air over a girl in simple 1950s clothes. It's about as wide as a bus, and can be easily felt as magic of some sort.
Whatever the case, its mass is being sent at the ground you're on, with intent to kill you as well as anyone else nearby, whether you're aware or not.]

Anywhere? Anywhere!
So she had made her way home in the morning, not particularly well rested and rather stiff, eager to maybe make it to the couch, at bare minimum. Damn this human body, needing so much recovery time.... and she arrived at 458 Stone Street to a big hole by the front door, and a lack of household inhabitants.
And then she had an unpleasant run in with a friend of hers that made it rather clear what was going on today. People had gone crazy and were trying to kill each other. And the most important thing that she could think to do, beyond simply surviving herself, is to find Aurica before someone hurts her. Or worse.]
Aurica? Aurica!
[...wait, did she hear her voice? Her singing? It was just up ahead, at the end of the block, wasn't it?]
Aurica!
Indeed!
Oh, no... Dakki!! Get away from me! Don't come any closer!
It's like banging fists against a steel wall: The harder she tries to reclaim control, the more her futility hurts her. Thankfully, it would be a little bit before her body can try another attack like that. It's a rather good thing that she's not nearly as powerful as she could be.
The body shifts direction toward Dakki, its hands raised to its stomach as if to catch something or defend itself.]
Was paks ga...
Was paks ga...
(Very much wanting this tension to end soon...)
no subject
I'm coming, Auri-
[There's no one else here. There's just Aurica. And her. And Aurica is quite plainly preparing to cast something.]
...oh Holy Light-!
[Too late to run away, now. The moment she sees signs of Aurica's attack setting itself off, Dakki plans to hit the dirt and let it pass over her. Hopefully.]
