second hunt | backdated to after Day 3

[ACTION, 749 Partridge Drive, Sept. 5]

[So, here's the thing about killer drones: when you go up against a mob of them armed with only a knife and another knife sticking out of your shoulder, there's a good chance you're going to die. Even if you've got a witch on your side. Sam's learned that lesson the hard way, but now he's waking up in his bed, in his house, and sucking in a deep lungful of air.

He's alive. He's alive, which really shouldn't be possible. But then, he's seen and heard a lot of strange things, both in and out of Mayfield.

Still, there's no denying the fact that he was dead. Nor is there any denying the fact that he can barely feel his pulse, and when he sits up, he has to grip on to something to steady himself, his sight blurring for just a moment before it clears up as he tries to catch his breath. Then the mother of all headaches comes on.

Housemates, your newly resurrected not!dad is trying to make his way down the stairs, though he's looking a little pale. Which is pretty difficult when you're suffering from a headache, shortness of breath, and trying to fight off unconsciousness.

Everyone else, feel free to visit him over the next few days. Just expect to see that he's...not doing so hot.]

[ACTION, Mayfield High, Sept. 8]

[From all the chatter his drone kid has been directing at him while he's been sick, he's got a job at the high school as a teacher, which means that as soon as he's feeling better (or at least can stand for long periods of time without falling over), he'll be showing up for the first time at work.

Anyone who comes into their Social Studies class is sure to be in for a surprise, because Sam is sitting at his desk and reviewing the lesson plan, with "Myths, Legends, and How They Affect Various Societies" written on the blackboard. He's still a bit pale--death will do that to you--but at least he's feeling better.

As soon as everyone's sitting down, he stands up.]

Uh, hi. First things first, I'm Sam Winchester, and I'll be your Social Studies teacher for the year. [He pauses, just letting the words he's just said sink in.] We'll be studying various myths, legends and various kinds of lore, and see just how it's affected society. So, I'd like to hear at least one or two from you guys.

[Actually, this is kind of just an excuse to get his mind off of the fact that he died and to record at least some lore. Especially the ones that feature monsters and how to kill them, just in case he runs across one.

Other teachers are free to encounter him either in his classroom, writing something down in a notebook, or in the canteen, where his food looks more or less untouched as he goes over what he's written down, or even in the hallways, where he's leaning against one of the lockers and just breathing in and out.]

NO SAM NO-

DON'T ASK-

Too late.

"Aah- We are studying myths..?" Aaaaaah- "I am not completely familiar with the lore of the country I was from prior coming to Mayfield, but I believe I may be able to give a few ideas for the Japan from whence I came."

This can only end in terrible things.

"From what I have observed, Japan's mythology is quite odd compared to that of the west- that is to say, myths with western European ties. One of the greatest beliefs concerns spirits; in Japan, any object, from a mere sandal to a discarded toy, may gain a spirit and consciousness of its own if it has existed more than 100 years. As a whole, it seems that the prospect of all things having a spirit of some kind is quite prevalent."

"Ah, no, you misunderstand I think..." It's just as likely that Astral himself misunderstands instead.

"It is not that a spirit becomes attached to the item; rather, the item itself creates a spirit of its own. I believe it is how creatures such as kitsune, or tanuki are formed, though I am not sure..."

[Margot was revived about a day or so later and is not doing too well herself. While physically fine, mentally she's shot, seeing things that aren't there -- twisted bodies on fire, her sister as a faceless drone, other people she's met losing their faces as well so that they're featureless.

She's spent half the day locked in the bathroom before getting more answers and finally venturing out. Sam's is the first place she goes; she feels guilty that she couldn't get the both of them out.

Careful to avoid eye contact with any hallucinations and trying her damnedest to pretend they're not there, a twitchy Margot makes it to Sam's door, ringing the bell.]

[For a moment, Margot flinches away -- whatever the revival machine did, it's messing with her mind and his face looks like those drones. She forces herself to relax, but looks away.]

Hey yourself.

...Saints, I can't tell you how happy I am to see you alive. [Even though she's freaked out, she offers up a small smile.]

"Aah. More or less. As with Kitsune, they are animal spirits- specifically that of racoon dogs. Some of these such spirits are tricksters by definition- however some instead wish to live in peace in myth, using their skills to hide. ...Tanuki typically used their abilities to receive food it seems." Tanuki are greedy little things.

[Harry's sitting in the back of classroom, not really paying attention. He'd been warned that not coming was a bad thing and this was the first class he'd found without a drone teacher. So he decided to see what was going on. And maybe he's make some new friends or even learn something!]

[personal profile] allwehad 2012-09-09 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[She carefully steps over the salt lines. If his breathing is affected in any noticeable way, she'll see it -- her sister had trouble with her lungs when she was alive.] You get hit with something too?
allwehad: (pretty cool scarf eh)

[personal profile] allwehad 2012-09-09 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Then why the fuck are you even trying to stand?

[She'll move to help him, trying to maneuver him to the nearest couch or chair.]

You should be resting.
scarredglasses: (Sorry)

Huh? [Harry looked up from his doodles.] Um...my uncle always said stuff like that wasn't real.
allwehad: (oh so sad)

[personal profile] allwehad 2012-09-09 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[Margot slumps into a chair opposite.] The ship crashed. I didn't make it either.
scarredglasses: (Hmmm)

There's always stuff you hear about. Werewolves, vampires, that sort of thing.

[He didn't dare say wizards.]
allwehad: (claiming neutrality)

Figured I'd fight to the very end. But other people time.

[When in actuality she had been crushed to death when the blimp hit the building, but that above sounds less gruesome.]

We're still alive, so small victories.
