event: portal seven | the void

The final portal doesn't seem to be a portal at all. It's a glitch hole.

Located on the lawn of the library is a hole much like the ones that have plagued every new location for the past week. As with them, it hurts your eyes to look at too long, but even if you should muscle past the pain and stare straight into it, you can make out nothing on the other side. Nothing, save for a shifting, twitching, swirling void.

Unlike the portals, which were vertically placed like doorways, the hole at the Library is strewn across the lawn: if you want to enter it, you're going to have to jump. Of course, there's no guarantee it will even lead anywhere. Touching the hole or sticking your arm in doesn't have any effect: you'll pull your arm out unharmed. As far as jumping in completely goes, those who jump in disappear from sight. As long as you're on the Mayfield side, there's no way to tell what lies beyond the hole.

There's only one way to find out.

[ooc: Feel free to roleplay up to the point your characters jump in, assuming they do. A single group subthread will be created in a few hours revealing what happens on the other side.]

... Yeah, I know that well. [He can't count the many times he ran into conflict whenever a mortal found out about him.

He adjusts his hat over his eyes and follows Charles without really questioning or thinking about why he was following.]

It's almost a good thing, to stand separate from humanity. Those inside of that bubble- [he glances briefly at the one they're currently inside of with a wry smile] -are unable to see their own copious failings.

They're not... bad, though. I don't like people usually, but the guys I met before I came here were okay.

I don't find people very interesting, but to each their own. [he shrugs and tucks some stray hair behind his ear, increasing his speed a little as the bubble's pace slowly gains.]

If you've managed to find decent ones in your world, I suppose that's fortunate of you.

It's... nice. They're all really friendly, even though they're not the kind of folks I'd have chosen to make friends with if I wasn't introduced to them first.

[he hums thoughtfully and finds himself sneaking a glance over to the other side of the bubble where Ciel is walking.]

That seems to be the way things chiefly work, I've found. Circumstances do lend themselves to meeting interesting people every now and then. Terrible ones as well, mind you, but they're unavoidable no matter how one goes about meeting others.

[He laughs a bit.] I won't even argue that. Surprisingly, the cammoristi I've been spending the last few months with are a whole lot nicer than some common folk I've met over the years.

Cammoristi? [it takes him a moment to place the name since he's not very familiar with Europe outside of France.] They belong to one of the criminal organizations in Italy, do they not? I wouldn't find it entirely surprising to hear that they aren't completely foul.

I don't know how connected they are to the families on the mainland. They're not as strong as the other Mafias in the area, but then again, in that part of the country in those years, most everyone's a bit of a criminal.

Is that so? Where were you then, if not the mainland?

[he looks vaguely confused, only spending a few seconds trying to determine if Czes has already mentioned his homeland before. funnily enough, despite living in "America" for the past three years, it's still one of the last places he thinks of.]

Manhattan, New York, actually. I haven't been to Italy in a while.

Ah. I believe that makes you one of the few people actually from America, in that case. [he pauses for a fraction of a second, seemingly distracted by something beyond the bubble, but continues on smoothly regardless.]

Do you prefer New York to Italy?

New York, for now. I've been there for a few months.

I've only been to America briefly for business, but everyone's heard stories of New York. It must not be very glamorous, finding yourself in a place like this.

Glamour doesn't really matter. New York's great too, but I'm more concerned about sleeping in my bed without worrying about the city collapsing over my head.
