mayfield_rpg | event: portal seven

The final portal doesn't seem to be a portal at all. It's a glitch hole.

Located on the lawn of the library is a hole much like the ones that have plagued every new location for the past week. As with them, it hurts your eyes to look at too long, but even if you should muscle past the pain and stare straight into it, you can make out nothing on the other side. Nothing, save for a shifting, twitching, swirling void.

Unlike the portals, which were vertically placed like doorways, the hole at the Library is strewn across the lawn: if you want to enter it, you're going to have to jump. Of course, there's no guarantee it will even lead anywhere. Touching the hole or sticking your arm in doesn't have any effect: you'll pull your arm out unharmed. As far as jumping in completely goes, those who jump in disappear from sight. As long as you're on the Mayfield side, there's no way to tell what lies beyond the hole.

There's only one way to find out.

[ooc: Feel free to roleplay up to the point your characters jump in, assuming they do. A single group subthread will be created in a few hours revealing what happens on the other side.]

[Tachikoma is starting to think this isn't as fun as it was first expecting, or if it was, that part is over now and it might be time to be more serious.

Still, it is as upbeat and optimistic as ever, it just isn't going at a slow pace anymore to look at everything. It's purposely keeping up and occasionally dashing around back to check to make sure others are as well, offering rides, or physically carrying anyone who seems unable to run with the group.

The drones coming out of the void don't seem to bother it, and like the hands before, will actually greet them. Until they attack. Any droid that does so, or even tries to pull someone out of the bubble, will suddenly be hit by a hail of bullets. Tachikoma made well sure that it's machine guns were stocked before coming in and it knows perfectly well how to lay down suppressive and cover fire for others.]

I think whatever is outside the bubble is trying to stop us now!!

No. They're trying to kill us.

[Jenny throws a shock of electricity at a group of incoming drones, crisping them.]

That isn't very nice of them! I mean, if they're spending time to try and talk to us with those voices, then maybe they'd try to explain why they want us to stop in non-fatal ways.

[Whoops, another mutant drone is trying to pull Tachikoma away. Guess they are pretty aggressive. There's a burst of fire as Tachikoma lets loose with the machine gun in one of its arms again.]

I guess we could at least keep them away from the main body of the group to be on the safe side...

Ya think?

[Seriously, what the hell is wrong with this thing? Does it have no sense of self preservation or understanding of a hostel situation? Jenny's just floored at how this thing is perceiving this place.]

[It also doesn't always gets sarcasm. Or it just likes to talk. Either or.]

Well, it wouldn't be good if we let them drag anyone outside of the bubble. It's hard to tell which ones are definitely hostile without normal facial cues and their jerky body language though.

Plus I don't think it's good to assume we should destroy them on sight, since they might have what we're looking for and it would be harder to get it from them if we push them back into the void or burn them to ashes.

[And that's when she shot it your honor ... but not actually. She's just looking dumbfounded at it.]

The bubble is taking us where we need to go.

What if where we need to go is a drone somewhere in this void?

[Speaking of which, another drone is going for Tachikoma, scratching at its armored hull. Tachikoma just picks it up and tosses it away from the group.]

Then we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
