event: portal seven | the void

The final portal doesn't seem to be a portal at all. It's a glitch hole.

Located on the lawn of the library is a hole much like the ones that have plagued every new location for the past week. As with them, it hurts your eyes to look at too long, but even if you should muscle past the pain and stare straight into it, you can make out nothing on the other side. Nothing, save for a shifting, twitching, swirling void.

Unlike the portals, which were vertically placed like doorways, the hole at the Library is strewn across the lawn: if you want to enter it, you're going to have to jump. Of course, there's no guarantee it will even lead anywhere. Touching the hole or sticking your arm in doesn't have any effect: you'll pull your arm out unharmed. As far as jumping in completely goes, those who jump in disappear from sight. As long as you're on the Mayfield side, there's no way to tell what lies beyond the hole.

There's only one way to find out.

[ooc: Feel free to roleplay up to the point your characters jump in, assuming they do. A single group subthread will be created in a few hours revealing what happens on the other side.]

[Though the pocket of safety is crowded, Slugger maneuvers easily within its confines on his skates. The light bump Charles's shoulder receives as he passes too near is no accident.]

Don't get lost. [He smirks as he circles once around Charles and keeps pace. Slugger, too, is trying to watch for anything resembling the vague concept of a memento to appear from the void without giving himself too big of a headache.]

[the bump visibly startles him, but he's quick to regain his composure once he realizes who it was from.]

Grand advice, thank you. I do hope you abide by it as well. [the amusement quickly leaves his face when he glances back to the side of the bubble, and his nose wrinkles.] He certainly could stand to be a bit more helpful with locating this thing. Directions in an endless void might be hard to give, but aimless wandering can't be a wise decision, either.

[A hint, he agrees, would be most welcome. Supposedly, there were other mementos hidden in the previous portals. Slugger himself doesn't know what they were but perhaps Charles might know. It could give them some incite into what to look for in this new portal.]

What things were already found?

[he looks marginally irritated at that, and pulls his attention away from the bubble and its piercing noiselessness again.]

I only know that a disc or CD of some sort was found, but that isn't exactly helpful. Mementos could be absolutely anything. Photographs, jewelry, personal trinkets, things with seemingly no emotional value at all. [they definitely have their work cut out for them] I can only hope it will be easy to find in this environment.

[Slugger nods and will keep those things in mind, though he has no idea how any physical item could exist in this realm of chaos without being dismantled.]

It must be important if it's hidden here.

Was there a point to the other portals if this one is so important? [which is a genuine question and not just snark, even though it's pretty clear he hasn't a clue what the answer might be.]

I'm aware that we're trying to jog the memory of the Librarian, but if each item grows in importance according to the location it's placed, wouldn't it make sense that the item in this portal alone should be enough to work? [not exactly a pleasant thought, especially when people were injured during the first six days.]

Maybe it needs the others to work.

[A guess. It's all he can manage. Slugger remains quiet for a while, following beside Charles and glancing around apprehensively.]

I wonder if this will work. If she'll remember. Or if this will just make her go crazy.

[well there's a possibility he hadn't considered, and one he could definitely have gone his entire trip without.

but hey, since they're already talking about worst what-ifs:]
That might be part of the plan for all we know. Everyone is so quick to trust Richard Grey simply because he doesn't side with those in control of Mayfield, but who's to say he's the better of the two?
