mayfield_rpg | event: portal seven

The final portal doesn't seem to be a portal at all. It's a glitch hole.

Located on the lawn of the library is a hole much like the ones that have plagued every new location for the past week. As with them, it hurts your eyes to look at too long, but even if you should muscle past the pain and stare straight into it, you can make out nothing on the other side. Nothing, save for a shifting, twitching, swirling void.

Unlike the portals, which were vertically placed like doorways, the hole at the Library is strewn across the lawn: if you want to enter it, you're going to have to jump. Of course, there's no guarantee it will even lead anywhere. Touching the hole or sticking your arm in doesn't have any effect: you'll pull your arm out unharmed. As far as jumping in completely goes, those who jump in disappear from sight. As long as you're on the Mayfield side, there's no way to tell what lies beyond the hole.

There's only one way to find out.

[ooc: Feel free to roleplay up to the point your characters jump in, assuming they do. A single group subthread will be created in a few hours revealing what happens on the other side.]

[he sucks in air. breathe in, breathe out.]

...It's like being in a blender. Yeah. Something that's spinning around so fast that you can't even keep up with it. 's about as noisy as one, too.

[he doesn't realize how quickly he's talking, mostly out of panic.]

[Sora nods slowly as he looks at the ground. It was like that. His heart felt like it was being tossed about. But all the while it kept screaming to keep going. To not give up and run off. So a look of determination comes to his face as soon as his sad one did.]

Yeah...but we can't stop moving. Our hearts have brought us this far and we can't back down. We have to believe in them. No matter what.

Guys who've had their hearts betray them after a few triple cheeseburgers would disagree. But whatever.

[the more he breathes, the easier it gets. after a few seconds he feels good enough to keep walking.

he glances down at the boy and his...wait. what IS that thing?]

Uh.

[Sora's just going to give him a flat look.]

That's not what I meant.

[But he goes back to walking. He looks over at the Once-ler though when he seems to go into weird out mode.]

What? Is something wrong?

[he points at the Keyblade.]

What's that even for?

It's a keyblade. It's what I use to fight with.

How do you fight with a key? Is it like a sword, just more...key-like?

Hey, I've taken down plenty of monsters and Organization XIII with the keyblade so it's pretty useful. But yeah, I guess you could say that.

With a key?

[now he's heard everything. he hovers a little closer to Sora.]

How can I get one of those? I can get over how silly it looks if it's really that good against monsters and...whatever else you just said.

The keyblade's kind of picky. You have to have a strong heart to wield it. Other than that you could probably use it.

Is that all? [pffff.] My heart's plenty strong. It might as well be a big, heart-shaped lump of steel.

[he taps his chest with two fingers as he speaks.]

Reaaaaaaaaaaally? Okay than, wanna give it a go?

[He'll extend the keyblade out to Once-ler. All in the name of good fun, after all.]

Yes really.

[but...he's not so sure he likes where this is going. he looks from Sora to the Keyblade with an increasingly doubtful expression.]

You aren't worried that I'm going to run off with it, or scratch it? Or get big, greasy fingerprints all over the hilt?

Course not, now go on, take it. It's not gonna hurt you know.

[He still continues to hold it out, smiling as he does.]

[when someone usually says that, it means it will hurt, but the kid has a point. whoever heard of a man-eating key anyway?

he reaches out for the Keyblade and hesitantly curls his hand around the handle. it feels...strange. not bad, just odd. he wonders if that's the magic radiating from it. probably.

he turns the blade over with a frown, waiting for something to happen.]

[Something does happen Once-ler. It's only a few seconds while the man holds it but soon it vanishes in a flash of light. A second later the light comes out from Sora's hand and the keyblade is back in the boy's possession.]

[he yelps, grasping at the air immediately like he's trying to pull the light back. no such luck.]

No fair, you tricked me!

I might have done something like that.

[He's just grinning, teasing Once-ler with his tone all the while.]

Of all the low things do to!

[SULK SULK SULK. he doesn't know what's worse: the fact that he was tricked or the fact that his heart isn't a big hunk of metal. both are equally upsetting.]

Nnh, whatever! It's just a key. I've seen cooler magical weapons that aren't stupid looking and...picky.

Maybe next time.
[Sora's heart isn't a hunk of metal. It's just he has more confidence and strength in himself because of friendship. Sora shrugs though.]

Hey, the keyblade's not that stupid looking. It's pretty cool. But, it's not my greatest weapon. I got something better than it. You have it too.
