[ If one looks upward during twilight tonight, they might pick out an unusual celestial body high in the sky. It isn't a star, or a moon, or a UFO of any sort. But a few hundred or so feet above downtown Mayfield one can spy a bright pink circle of light hovering there, the circular pattern rotating slowly. Staff at the ready, Nanoha is standing on that circle, wearing her Barrier Jacket and channeling magical energy from a source directly below her on the ground. Her friend, Hayate, stands by with her Tome of the Night Sky at the ready, acting as a sort of living battery for the other woman.

But this isn't a magical attack, though it might look like one. For one hour, every fifteen minutes on the dot, Nanoha scatters streaks of magical energy all around her. These "shots" bounce from roof to roof, stretching out until they hit the barriers of Mayfield that loop back around to themselves. Each time the shot lands, it dissipates completely. Bardiche aids this effort by acting as a co-processor for the search, the golden badge clipped to Nanoha's lapel, but even with the three forces at work here, the information returned is... far from conclusive. ]

[ After the hour is up, Nanoha is strained from channeling the spell for such a long time, and though she wants to continue she realizes that there is nothing more to do right now. She dispels the circle and floats down to the ground. When she lands (a short distance away from her starting point) she looks tired and, above all, frustrated. ]

[ Phone : Evening : Drone Filter ]
In light of the recent... glitches... I have been trying to find a weakness in the border of the town. Has anyo— [ There is a jingle and a clank, Nanoha's voice cut off because the base of the phone just fell through the stand it was on and clattered to the floor. Nanoha sighs. ]

If anyone can provide me with any constructive observations of their own, I would appreciate them. I don't think we can afford to waste time in finding a possible exit. I can offer my own data in return.

((OOC: The magic moves fast, so it could be easily missed. It is not hostile and will dissipate on contact with any flying vessel or individual contact, and will not make the same exact pass twice. Could still spook someone, though!))

Dang. I don't think anything short of a serious SSS+ class barrier buster will do it then. And I don't trust myself enough to keep my own bombardment spell aimed properly this time around.

It would help if we could better analyze what we were aiming at. [ The temptation to unload everything they could collect into one point and hope something buckles is there but, at the same time, there is zero information on what that would DO that prevents her from entertaining the thought for too long. ] After all, there could be the equivalent to Negative Space on the other side. There is no telling what rules this place operates on.

Ooooogh yeah I didn't think about Negative Space. Good you're here or I would have tried it out by now. I have pretty much everything I need to raise a little hell.

[And probably get droned hardcore for doing so, knowing the place in itself.]

The town made a good decision, having me as your neighbor. [ Nanoha could write it off as coincidence, of course. ] But let's not get ahead of ourselves. Not unless this... condition gets worse and the town leaves us no choice. Fight or fall through the earth.

[While admittedly Hayate wasn't 100% Full Power all the time like her friends were back in the day, she had bad ideas. Nodding, Hayate sipped her drink she was carrying.]

If it gets worse, you want me to throw around enough magic so you can try and Starlight Breaker our way out?

I honestly hope it won't come to that, but I had the same idea. [ She'll admit. She has to get that spell back, first... or improvise something else. ]

As much as I want to see a Diabolic Emission-sized pink ball of doom over our heads, lets hope it'll be solved soon. [She grinned at that.]

[ Nanoha laughs, setting a hand on Hayate's shoulder. It isn't tough; she's just leaning a bit on that support. ] Yes, let's stay within my limits, please.

Though it's been a while since you've done that spell to my knowledge.

[She's smiling at Nanoha, bringing a hand up to clasp hers for a moment.]

[ Look at that innocent smile. ] To your knowledge...

I'll have to tell you more about the hardware that we have been testing. Though if this takes much longer, you might just see it for yourself. [ And have to help her put it on because the Fortress is heavy when unmanned. ]

Yeah that's true.

Wait, hardware? Don't tell me they've given you more toys later on?

You don't expect them to stop testing just because I took a little time away, do you?

No, in retrospect I suppose it wouldn't stop at all. I guess the idealistic family life-style that we've been living for the last four years has sort of softened my regard in your penchant to blowing things up with sparkling pink lasers.

[Was she being sarcastic or just retrospective? Probably more of the latter.]

Oh come on, Hayate... [ She laughs a bit, giving that shoulder a light shove. ] Let's worry more about the present need for that kind of firepower. I think I did discover something interesting, even if I don't know what good it will do us just yet.

Yeah you're right. Lets give the firepower a testrun later on I suppose. It's not like I can't just aim upwards.

So what'd you discover?

[ Hayate sure does seem eager to blast something. Nanoha files that away for the moment. ]

My magic stopped at the looping point at the edges of the town, without fail, every time. I think shooting magic would act the same. It makes me wonder how strong of an effect they have in place...

Hmm that is interesting. So that potentially means that the looping is finite in some aspects, but not in others. If I were to walk it or drive it, it would loop me normally but it's not like I can't shoot through the effect now...

[Hayate's been cooling her heels for a long time now. It's obvious she'd get antsy.]

Exactly.

But that leaves the question of where all the energy goes. [ And the potential to overload that source. ]

Hmm, you have a point. And we don't know what's out there right now.

[And there's nothing that's saying that they couldn't be flung into space or something if they broke it.]

[ Nanoha heaves a sigh. ] No, we don't. [ ~~But in a few days, someone will give them some clues!~~ ]

Yeah... but no sense worrying too much. We'll be able to figure it out, I have confidence in people.

They've been so kind as to provide us with tools. We might as well put them to use.

[ Though if Nanoha doesn't take a nap, soon, she won't be doing much of anything tomorrow. ]

Exactly. And on that note, you're okay right? You've used quite a bit of magic already. [Hayate was keenly aware that her friend still had a tendency to stress herself.]

[ Nanoha nods. ] I have, but that just means I should take a break.

You should! I wouldn't want you to fall asleep on me.
