Cade's Birthday! (Give gifts to the children of Mayfield!)

[A. Phone]
[Cade sounds more chipper than usual, especially compared to how he was last week.]
"Hey everyone! Cade Masters, Adventurer, here, and it is my birthday today! Because of all the weirdness around town, I was thinking of cancelling my little birthday cookout, but I just received a nice little surprise that changed my mind. Clever little Winry Rockbell was able to use the plans I drew up a while back when I was... uhm... smarter for a few days to make a bunch of really neat toys for the children of this town. So, I was thinking instead of you giving me gifts for my birthday, we could go around town together and then..."
[Cade switches to his theatrical voice.]
"GIVE THE TOYS TO THE POOR CHILDREN TRAPPED IN THE TOWN WITH US!
...and then afterwards we can go back to my place and have a little cookout! Barbecue some steaks, knock back some beers, and just have fun and take out minds off this damn place for awhile.

I figure we'll head out on the toy run around 5 pm, so if you want to help with that, show up before then!"


[B. 305 Miller; before 5 pm]
[Cade has tidied up the house, and prepped tables in the back for the cookout later. In the living room is a table with a big box of toys. Cade has the left the front door open, and eagerly comes to greet anyone who arrives.]

"Hey! Glad you could make it! Can I get you something to drink?"


[C. Anywhere around town]
[Cade is going to the house of every child he knows of that has been stolen from their homes and brought to Mayfield, as well as to the house of any child his party-goers might suggest. He is smiling happily as his group goes door-to-door, perhaps more happy than he has ever looked since coming to this wretched town. Perhaps you are one of the party-goers accompanying him? Or perhaps you are a child, receiving a gift from a group of strange (and possibly slightly drunk) adults who showed up at your door?


[D. 305 Miller; evening]
[After returning from the toy run, Cade will fire up the grill and cook up some meat, while hopefully some of you will lend a hand in getting out the other food (it's already prepped, it just needs to be set out on the tables outside). There is plenty of booze to drink and people to talk to, so have fun!]


[E. 305 Miller; after the party]
[Every party ends with a clean up. Cade is happy to do it on his own, he doesn't even mind if Jenny goes to bed before he does, but at the same time he will also be grateful for any help and a chance to wind down. If you want to talk to Cade in private, this might be your best chance today.]

[Cade cups his hands around his mouth to amplify his voice.]

"HEY EVERYONE! This is my good friend Mika! She's a bit shy so make her feel welcome!"

[Mika choked, making a small strangled sound in the back of her throat before she shrank in on herself, hiding her face in her hands as her ears flattened against her scalp and her tail tucked tightly between her legs.]

[From where she's roasting marshmallows, Margot turns, drunkenly waves hello, and shouts back:]

HI MIKA!

Whoa! CUTE EARS!

[It takes her a moment before she can squeak out a reply.]

[Cade kind of nudges Mika over towards a drunken Margot.]

"Mika, meet Margot. Margot, meet Mika. Either of you two need a drink?"

[Sauntering over, looking utterly fascinated.]

No, really! And you have a tail! Cool!

[Grins at Cade.]

[She nods, her tail waving awkwardly. Well, so much for her quick and silent escape plans. Rubbing her arm and looking awkwardly out-of-place, she just nods numbly.]

[And she notices Mika's discomfort, not too far gone yet. Margot offers her the twig with a nicely toasted marshmallow on the end.]

Wanna marshmallow? Roasted it myself.

S-sure...thanks.

[Hesitantly accepting the marshmallow, her tail waves a little as she puts it in her mouth, still keeping her head ducked.]

No beer, but a drink's fine...

[Cade wanders off and comes back a minute later with a beer and two cocktails.]

"Here's a beer for Margot and a strodkaberry lemonade for Mika."

[In the time that Cade is gone, Margot is going to be utterly fascinated by Mika's ears and tail. She will probably be continuing this line of questioning when he comes back, happily taking the beer.]

Did you -- did you mess up on a spell or something? Are they real?

Magic isn't something that's a thing outside of books and games where I come from. My kind were all born this way.

[She whuffs softly, her ears flicking back. They twitch forward again as she accepts her drink with a murmured thanks, her tail waving.]

[The sweet strawberries in Mika's drink mask the taste of Mayfield's lame Wisconsin vodka pretty well. Drink up!]

"Yup, Mika's a wolf where she comes from!"

...Cool. You're really a wolf?

[Mika nods, her tail waving a little.]

Yeah, I am.

[Cade takes a sip of his own drink, which is also a very manly pink, then nods from Mika to Margot.]

"...and Margot here is some sort of mage. Likes to throw fire around.]

[The manliest of pinks.]

Weaver. We're called Weavers.

I don't just throw fire around. [Fake grumbles, downing beer.]

[She is so used to boys drinking weird things this hardly phases her, but WAIT what did Margot say?]

Weavers?

[Her ears flick forward in interest.]

I've never heard that term used before pertaining to a mage, how does it work?

[Cade will shut up for a bit and just let the girls talk.]

((ie, you don't have to wait for Cade to take his "turn", though he may jump in again later.))

[She's not trying to be rude, just trying to think of a good way to explain it and failing.]

I mean -- I work with the elements, manipulate, blah blah. Other people can do other stuff.

It's completely normal where I'm from.

Hmm, all right. I was just wondering if there was a special trick to it that warranted the term 'weaver' is all.

[She sips her drink, thinking this over and frowning in the puzzled kind of way of someone trying to sort out either a lot of information or some kind of riddle.]

Oh, no, see -- that's a narcissistic thing.

[She puts on a pompous voice, raising the hand with beer and sloshing it everywhere.]

In the beginning, The great Weaver made the world and from it we came, gifted with magic.

So we called ourselves Weavers too because why not?

Oh.

[Her ears and tail droop a little in disappointment before she just shrugs, nodding a little.]

I guess that makes sense.

[Noooo don't be sad. Margot reaches to pat her on the shoulder in an attempt to be comforting.]
