event: new and improved; factory day 2

[Welcome to the Factory.

A blackened, dilapidated building sitting on the edge of town, it seems to have appeared out of nowhere overnight. It is surrounded by an electrified fence; should anyone on the outside (or the inside) try to cross it, they will find themselves repelled by the force with painful electric shocks. No amount of strength, size, magic, or flying ability will get you past the fence.

The Factory itself looks like it's been through hell. It's falling apart on the outside. Half of the building looks collapsed. The bricks are scorched. All of the window frames are rusted. It certainly doesn't look like a place that should be up and running, but it is. Dr. Johnson and her team are scurrying around the building, performing treatments, operations, and experimentations- making 'improvements'.

Following your treatment and/or surgery, you wake up- or don't- in a filthy room. It's nothing like the fairly sterile surgery room had been. You're crammed in there with dozen other 'patients', each in varying stages of recovery.

You're probably in moderate to severe pain. The pain might be so great that you are incapable of moving. Perhaps some of your limbs are missing or maybe you find huge gaps in your memory. Maybe you're very sick with some disease you don't recall developing. Either way, you were sent in for 'improvements', and you've been 'improved' as much as Dr. Johnson thinks you needed.

If they're lucid enough, the other patients will probably talk to you. You'll find that, like you, they're all non-drone townspeople.

You'll be contained here for 24 hours. Following that, you'll be released. When you leave the building, you'll find yourself outside the hospital in Mayfield with the Factory nowhere to be seen.

The Factory rooms are as follows:

Recovery: A large recovery room with dozens and dozens of gurneys and beds. It's filled with equipment like IVs and medical charts. This is where all characters will wake up. It's very unsanitary in here.

Operating room: Where you endured your surgery, treatment, and/or experiment. All operating and medical supplies are still here. Dr. Johnson is nowhere to be found.

Supply room: Standard medical supplies are found here. They include typical doctors' equipment, bandages, medicines, and the like. There's nothing particularly strong or lethal here, nor is there anything sharp which could be used as a weapon.

Lobby: The front lobby of the Factory. Designed like a hospital lobby, it also contains the waiting room. Dated 1950s magazines are strewn everywhere.

[Eventually her eyes unglaze as she attempts to look back at Kono.]

Y-yeah...

[And it goes without saying at this point that she's dribbling ink as she speaks.]

[Kono instinctively wipes at the ink, but all she manages to do is smear it. Even though it's a small problem, especially compared to everything else they had done to Squid Girl, Kono feels her chest tighten further in sympathy.]

Come on Squid, [gasp] let's sit down.

[moemoetentacles]

[She nods quietly, fumbling for Kono's hand and following her.]

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono gives her hand a squeeze as she finds them an empty bed to sit on. Sitting will do the, both some good.

Can you see?

[moemoetentacles]

Kind of...

[surf_n_makai]

Ok. I can [gasp] stop you from hitting [gasp] things. It's.

[Kono stops short of saying 'It's ok' because it's not. Not at all. She notices the skin on Squid Girl's hand seems dry.]

Water? [gasp]

[moemoetentacles]

...Do you have any?

[Yeah, she's definitely drying out quickly.]

[surf_n_makai]

No. We can [gasp] try to find some. [gasp] We just have [gasp]to move slowly.

[moemoetentacles]

O-okay... you can lead.

[There's a trail of ink leaking out of her mouth as they walk around. It looks kind of like those dashed lines from Family Circus comic strips.]

[surf_n_makai]

[It doesn't help that Kono has no idea where they're going even though she's leading. Eventually they find themselves wandering back into the operating room.]

Oh my God.

[moemoetentacles]

What? What is it?

[Trying to peer around her.]

[surf_n_makai]

I think [gasp] this is where they [gasp] operated on us.

[Kono walks slowly into the room, holding onto tightly to Squid Girl's hand.]

[moemoetentacles]

N-no! I don't want to go back in there!

[She starts hyperventilating, pulling on Kono's arm to try to get away.]

Not again!

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono keeps hold, not wanting Squid Girl to take off and run into something or hurt herself.]

Ok, ok. [gasp] Calm down, we can go back. [gasp]

[Kono let's Squid pull her back toward the door.]

[moemoetentacles]

[Squid Girl stumbles backward out of the door, looking around somewhere else for some water.]

There's gotta be some...

[surf_n_makai]

Maybe if we [gasp] find a bathroom? [gasp] Or kitchen.

[Kono's starting to feel really dizzy and is leaning up against the wall.]</small.

[moemoetentacles]

Are you okay?

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono nods, even as she leans heavier on the wall.]

I just need [gasp] a minute.

[moemoetentacles]

No, you need water too! We need to hurry!

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono takes a couple of deep-as-she-can-manage breaths to clear her head, which works well enough but not great. She pushes off the wall.]

Ok. Let's try [gasp] the other direction.

[moemoetentacles]

[Squid Girl will take charge now, dragging Kono along after her as she veers off in some random direction. Hopefully it's toward a sink or something.]

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono lets herself be led, trying not to trip over her own two feet as they go.

They manage to find the recovery room again, the lobby, and the recovery room yet again as they stumble. Eventually they find a small door that seems like it could be a bathroom.

Kono leans hard on the door as she opens it, not able to stop the smile on her face.]

Bathroom. [gasp] With a sink.

[The sink is tiny, but it should work for their needs.]

[moemoetentacles]

Water!

[Squid Girl runs over to the sink, fumbling with the knobs a bit before getting it running. She wastes no time in splashing water all over her skin, and then on Kono, scooping it out by the handful.]

[surf_n_makai]

[Kono splashes her neck with it, trying to get as much on the gills as she can. It feels like taking one deep breath, but doesn't really help much over the long run. The sink's not really deep enough for her to put her head in to have her gills underwater. Still, she'll take what she can get.]

Better?

[moemoetentacles]

Yeah...

[deep breath]

I'm okay.
