1 ✿ 946 Beulah Street

[Anyone walking down Beulah street today might notice the large cherry blossom tree in the garden of 946. It certainly wasn't there yesterday, seemingly sprung up overnight.

It isn't in bloom, but that doesn't make it any less beautiful. The tree boasts a strong structure and each branch seems to be angled in an almost perfect arrangement. The colour and the grain of the wood is magnificent and you can't help but feel drawn to it somehow. The closer you get to it the more you feel at peace. A wholeness, a sense of ease that you've never felt before.

It seems like we have another incident on our hands. If there's someone out there with a certain set of skills I'm afraid I'll have to ask for your help.

I need someone who can create a seal.

It's called Saigyou Ayakashi. It's the youkai cherry blossom tree from my garden.

There's a certain someone resting below it, or at least there was. They'd been sealed there long before my time, and I'm starting to understand why.

It's dangerous, then. Do you need help dealing with it?

Probably, but I doubt you're the kind of person who could help me.

Is there anyone I can go find for you, then?

Do you know anyone who seals spirits or demons or anything of the like?

I mean, you could help if you really wanted to but you're quite a nice boy. I wouldn't want to use you as a seal if I can help it.

[He shakes his head.] No one contemporarily, and certainly not here. Sorry.

As for being a seal... I don't understand completely but I'm quite sure that I've had worse things happen to me, so if you can't find anyone else, I can be around for that. Better than having evil unleashed all over Mayfield, right?

Your body could be sealed there possibly forever if no one breaks it. You wouldn't be able to enter the reincarnation cycle either, not that it matters much here I suppose.

I'm not sure I can really comprehend what it's like though. Maybe it's like sleeping for a very long time...

That, uh...

That sounds kind of horrific, actually. But better to use me than someone who may be of some actual help to Mayfield, right? I mean, all of my notes are in my room, and that's really all I have to contribute.

Not necessarily, there are plenty of people in Mayfield. Even one if those people might be suitable enough.

[He doesn't even have to fully comprehend this to understand that he couldn't live with himself if he just stood by while she used someone else for whatever sort of magic that seal would be. Being the intelligent one often meant feeling like a coward, even when self-preservation was a key thing in any existence.

After a moment, he takes a deep breath.]

How quickly do you have to do it? Or would you have time to exchange it the tree at the post office before unspeakable horrors were unleashed?

I'm not getting rid of it.

[Whether it's because of Yuyuko's subconscious longing for home or if the tree is already starting to affect her is unclear but she's incredibly firm in her stance]

I'm not sure how long we can wait. It probably won't unleash it's full power until it blooms in the spring. Of course it would be best to deal with the problem early.

Okay, then. Would you give me ten minutes, first?

What are you going to do?

I was just going to write a letter to Ukraine, on the off-chance Mayfield actually allows... whatever you do and need me for to be permanent. [He shrugs.] I can't imagine Mayfield is particularly fond of magic messing with its forced normalcy, but you never know.

Even if you were a bit quiet, I'll miss having you around the house.

Ah, yeah... [He lets out a nervous little chuckle.] I'll be right back.

[And with that, he scoops up a nearby dozing mochi and heads upstairs to his room.]

[After all the sounds of her chatting on the phone downstairs it goes awfully quiet. A little while later there's a knock on the door, but Yuyuko doesn't wait for a response to open it.

Even though she's smiling it seems like her attitude has completely changed]

Estonia? There's no need to worry about anything, you won't be needed.

[He's just on his way back down, last letters written and everything and -

Not yet, but we should be able to soon.
