[Tohru's first thought after waking up in a strange house is that perhaps she had collapsed or been in some sort of accident. Maybe some good Samaritan was looking after her.
Her second though is 'oh no what if I was kidnapped!?!' What could kidnappers possibly want from her? She didn't have any money. Oh, but the Sohma's did! What if the kidnapper demanded a ransom from them? Or from Uo-chan and Hana-chan! Or from poor Grandfather!

No, wait. That's silly. The first idea was more likely. It was probably some kind person helping her out. She can't quiiite shake the feeling of nervousness, which leaves her timidly exploring the house. She's peering around corners, carefully knocking before opening any doors, and softly calling out.]

He-hello? Is anyone home? I'm sorry to intrude....

[Later, when her not!family has explained a few things, she gets on the phone.]

Hello everyone!

Um, I just got here today. And I heard that I can talk to all the other people trapped here on the phone, so......

I thought this might be a good time to introduce myself. My name is Tohru Honda, and I'll be living on Brooks street starting today! I look forward to meeting all of you.

The best way to prepare is to make lots of friends and try not to interfere with the town. Unfortunately, this only works roughly half of the time. The rest of the time, they play all sorts of mind games and try to turn us all against each other.

Well, um... that's not too bad. I like making friends, and I don't even know how I'd interfere with anything.

Well, that's good, yes, but sometimes the town also hurts us all. Intentionally. And often for no reason at all.

[Rarity smiles sadly for a moment before hanging her head. She doesn't like having to tell new people about all of this, especially someone as nice and polite and sweet as Tohru's turned out to be.]

Umm, so... What do people do around here all day?

Well, I certainly can't speak for everypony, but most of my time is spent working on new clothing designs for humans and ponies alike. I've had quite a bit of new business recently, so it's very exciting!

You make clothes? That's amazing! I have a friend back home who owns a dress shop.

Do you think I could see your dresses sometime?

Yes, of course you can, darling! And if you'd ever like me to make something for you, you need only ask.

Oh, no! I couldn't possibly ask you to do that! In the first place, I could never afford it.

Darling, you're family now! I wouldn't dream of asking for payment.

It's more than enough that you've been so kind to me. Asking for anything else would just be unforgivable!

[Yeah, Rarity's not having this. Whether Tohru likes it or not, there's now measuring tape whizzing all around her as Rarity reads the measurements with a practiced eye.]

Huh? Wha- what?

[Eying the measuring tape in surprise for a few seconds before going back to protesting.]

B- but there were already clothes in the closet! Those are good enough for me.

That's where you're wrong, darling. Mayfield clothes aren't good enough for anypony. I wouldn't wish fashions like that on my worst enemy! Now please, hold still, this will only take a few moments more...

I'm sure they're fine! There's more clothes in there than I've ever owned in my life. That's already more than enough for me.

[She does hold still though, trying not to be any more trouble than she already is.]

Yes, but they're so dreadfully plain. As a designer, I could never allow myself to sit idly by while you're forced to wear such things.

Oh, but I'm used to plain clothes. I do a lot of housework, so fancy ones would only get dirty.

Oh, then I'll have to make you an apron, too!

Wh-what? But I'm already taking advantage of your kindness so much!

I feel bad being so much trouble when I only just got here...

Taking advantage? No, not at all! I want to do this for you! It's my life's dream to bring my fashions to the world, one pony - or in your case one person - at a time! So please, don't you worry one little bit about it. Just be yourself, and I'll help you shine as brightly and as beautifully as you can.
