[Bail is at your door carrying a toolbox and looking at a piece of paper]

Oh, hello. I hope your sink isn't actually giving you trouble. I was sent here to repair it, but I'm afraid that's far outside my skillset.

[Action: John Doe Park]

[Alderaanian culture involves a strong appreciation for nature, so Bail finds himself wandering through the park, examining the trees and flowers and murmuring to himself.]

It's... unsettling.

[ Ilsa turns to look at him, and then nods. ] Time difference... and something else.

[ She wrinkles her nose, grinning. ] But that's prying.

[ Offering him a glass of iced tea and holding out her hand for the toolbox, ] I'm not sure what got put down the sink, but it was sometime between this morning when I finished the breakfast dishes, and this afternoon, when I started prep for dinner. Gods only know what happened while I was at work.

[Time difference is putting it mildly. As is something else, but that's beside the point.]

I'm still adjusting to her not being three years old.

[He hands the toolbox over gladly]

Who tends to be home during the day?

That would be an adjustment.

[ She sorts through the toolbox, uncoiling the pipe snake and sitting in front of the drain. ]

Could have been either my assigned son or husband, considering I was working a little late to use the office mimeograph. Egon usually knows better with the stuff in the drains, though, considering what he's fished out.

How old is your assigned son? Children have a unique talent for getting into mischief.

[ She chuckles as she twists the snake into place. She's actually sitting in a way so he can see what she's doing. ] He's fourteen, and if I find a clog of buttercream in this, that's likely his fault.

[ There's a small grunt as she twists the tool to shove it further in the pipe. ] That's hit a bend in the pipe, you just turn it until it curves into it.

[He makes a mental note of this. At some point he might have to actually know this.]

That certainly sounds like a teenage boy.

Yep, he's been awfully quiet lately. I might need to see if he's arranged for anything this summer.

[ She reaches the end of the snake, and then grins at him. ]

Here's where we find out if it's a normal clog or something else.

[ Ilsa plants her feet on the cabinet frame, and makes sure of the bucket position under the pipe before hauling back on the pipe snake. ]

School is out of session soon then?

[Bail hopes this is something normal and not a weird case that's not likely to be useful for future reference. Seems he's stuck doing this, after all.]

The school year here runs until the first Friday in June, and that's next week. It starts the day after Labor Day, which is the first Monday in September.

[ She's moving the clamp up the snake and bracing to pull again. ]

Different from home for me, because even the little kids get school all year, but the summer quarter tends to be the travel quarter. Little kids go to woods camp, and in high school, there's a lot of location exchanges going on.

Children on Alderaan have the summers free to enjoy nature, but the Galactica calendar is very different from the one used here.

That's a lot of what woods camp is about...

[ One last tug, and the clog is pulled out with the last of the pipe snake. Peering into the bucket, Ilsa comments, ]

Huh. Looks like it's the drone girl's hair. She's the only blonde in the house.

It's an important thing to start learning young.

In the... kitchen.

[He's not sure he wants to know what sort of drone activity lead to that.]

Yeah, I know. [ Ilsa's nose wrinkles at the knot, getting it off the pipe snake, and coiling the tool. ] Not like she can't wash her hair upstairs.

[ She sets to work re-installing the drain trap. Again, she is positioned in a way to make it easy for Bail to see what she is doing. This time, it looks deliberate. ] If you have to take the u-bend off the sink, make sure the bucket is under it. You might also run into someone calling you after they've put drain cleaner down the pipes, so eye and hand protection might be a good idea.

That can be found at the... hardware store, yes?

You've got the gloves, already. [ she nods at the toolbox, at the items in question. ]

Those look to be rated for the household chemicals accessible here, but if they get leaks in them, the hardware store has replacements. Eye protection is a little tricky, though. As a male, they'll answer your requests at the hardware store.

[ She smiles at him. ] About half of this stuff I learned as a teenager, living with my parents in an old house that was constantly being renovated. But there's books in the library for the basics, too. You can get to them, because they're in your section. I had to get one or my previous housemates to get the references for me when we built out the basement.

That's... useful, at least. It's unfortunate that the town locks people who actually have these skills out the way it does.

My skillset is half-and-half. The stuff I did as a hobby to relax is what I'm nearly required to do, but my work skills only get used when my patients find me.

[ Ilsa washes up, checking under the sink to make sure the seals are tight. ]

We all make do with what we have, until we can get out.

I'm a senator... it doesn't tend to come up. I cook, as a hobby. The drones are equally appalled.

[ Ilsa chuckles. ] I trained for two years as a chef before I heard the call to be a psychiatrist. I'd like to trade recipes sometime, to see if any translate.

I'm still familiarizing myself with the spices here, but that sounds like an enjoyable prospect.

You haven't had a bad reaction to anything, have you? I'm pretty sure that unless someone gets a non-human body as a regain, most of the food here won't cause problems but you never know.

Not as of yet. The stores here are very human centric.

It was all they knew for sure, in this time-frame. Alien cultures were only hypothesized in speculative fiction of the era.

[ She shrugs, smiling. ]

It's... quite foreign. At home humans have been travelling hyperspace for millenia.

Oh, they know it's out there, but the average citizen wouldn't think about it until fairly late in the decade, and even then there's political overtones. Even by my time, there's only unmanned satellites leaving the system, even if there's just beginning to be mining and manufacturing concerns starting up.
