6th Tea Party: The Princess' Prom Preparations

Good day to you all. My name is Kreutzer; with prom inching closer each day, it seems that there are many who seek the aid of a tailor or seamstress to have their outfits custom-made. I am one of the numerous seamstresses offering her services.

The prom will elect two people to serve as the king and queen, will it not? If you wish to compete for the title of king and queen, then don't you agree that you should look like a king or a queen? I can help you look the part of nobility.

Some of you may have already seen some of my work with my past customers. Perhaps you've realized how very satisfied they were with the results? You can be sure to get the same level of satisfaction if you request for my work. You won't have to worry if you haven't seen what I'm capable of so far; I've prepared a preview of sorts for all of Mayfield to behold. At 3:00 pm today, my dolls will make their routes around town; their attire, while only a taste of what I can do, will nonetheless showcase my workmanship and skill with a needle and thread.

[Looks like it was time to double-check all those locks he'd installed on the spare room he'd claimed for himself. The last thing he needs is random people wandering into his darkroom. Kreutzer might keep an eye on things she cared about, but he's pretty sure his room doesn't fall into that category.]

(Not at all. At best, his room would likely be used as a place for guests to store their jackets.)

And if I did? This is simple business, Hajime; hardly something you have to concern yourself with.

[All the more reason for him to check the locks, then! Maybe he'll install a fourth one.]

If large groups of people are going to be invading, I'd like to know.

[Pretty much so he can either prepare for a potential fight or lock himself in the darkroom/bedroom and refuse to come out while they're there. Easier to defend your territory when you're right there waiting for trouble.]

It's not an invasion if they're all invited. However; you have a point...

(Does she even have to trollface for him to feel the trollface?)

[He is sadly quite familiar with such levels of trollface from Kreutzer, yes. Just you wait until he gets his bow back...]

...this prom thing requires such overdone outfits to the degree you couldn't simply use the shop downtown?

It's much more polite to invite them over here. Besides, most of my work is done at home, anyway.

Will you be attending the prom? I'll gladly make your outfit for you.

(And despite all of the crap she normally pulls on you, she's never tampered with your clothes before. Kinda strange, isn't it?)

[He figures she hasn't messed with his clothing simply because she has no desire to accidentally see him naked...and that he'd be sure to mention who made said clothing if they did fall apart in front of anyone.

He gives her a curt nod.]

I will be attending, yes.

[Bet you weren't expecting Mr. Antisocial Quiet Man to say that.]

I was simply going to wear that suit I found in the closet.

[The horrible blue one. You know the one. The really, really terrible one. He's wearing it in several of the fake family photos.]

(Oh don't worry; Kreutzer only sabotages clothing like that if she wants to.

And she hasn't wanted to do that to you.)

Really? Interesting...

(Not expecting that actually. However, she knew he'd be stubborn about what he'd wear.)

No, Hajime. No. That suit is terrible and completely inappropriate for something like prom. I know you don't want to wear anything too formal, but I can still make you something much more tolerable than that.

It seems the event requires the services of a photographer. I can do that.

[And it had better not require a date because he has none and is completely disinterested in acquiring one.

He doesn't see what's so terrible about that suit, but he won't argue for once. At least not yet.]

...define "tolerable."

[Translation: can he fight in it? You know how he is.]

Right. That would certainly be a night to remember.

(Which makes her wonder if he ever developed that film Kreutzer and Pinkie took advantage of...all things considered, that was probably a no.)

Tolerable as in something that can remain stylish and pleasing to the eyes while allowing you ease of comfort. Does that terrible suit really allow you comfort?

(It's all about knowing the clientele~)

I assume it would be. It's good for business if I want to do anything other than play hobbyist out here.

[He actually did develop that film. You may have heard quiet Undead cursing and smelled some weird burning odors coming from the darkroom that night...followed by the sound of darts hitting something. He just doesn't want to give Kreutzer the satisfaction of knowing just how annoyed he was by that...and given the cursing followed by the burning odor, it probably just seemed like he had some accident that night.

And she's got him there with that suit comment.]

...yes, it is rather restrictive. I'd be interested in something I can move around in.

[A thought occurs to him.]

And to make this an even trade, if you need photographs for advertisements, I can do that.

Then you can understand exactly doing with my seamstress skills.

(She had her suspicions that night, too...)

Very well. I'll get to work on something appropriate for you.

(And then suddenly, an idea.)

How about this: I'll need profile pictures of everyone wearing my designs. They can double as demonstrations of both my seamstress skills and your photography skills, don't you think?

I'm not inviting anyone to the house for picture sessions.

[He's a territorial cuss, face it...and do not ask questions about that night unless you want a story about accidentally setting film on fire.

He nods when she says she'll get to work on something for him.]

Nothing too fancy...I assume you have my measurements. And nothing in green.

And I can take those profile pictures for you, yes...but if you want them in color, you'll need to chip in for the film. I appear to be out of color film at the moment, and it's more expensive here.

[Out of color film? I WONDER WHY.]

Well measurements have to be taken, you know. I do have to plan this sort of things.

(Accidental...yeah...)

Don't worry, Hajime; I know exactly what you like to wear.

(SHE KNOWS EXACTLY WHY, but she's holding back a smile.)

Very well; I'll supply my share of the money.

Ah, right. How long will these measurements take?

[Just no short jokes while you're measuring his height. He wouldn't put that past you, Kreutzer.]

I'll need the money before I go out and buy the film, of course.

[And Hajime has caught that holding back of a smile, but he will not call attention to it. That would mean calling attention to the film, wouldn't it?]

Not very long at all.(An unintentional short joke, but it is what it is.) I still have your measurements, so you're fine.

Of course. Clover?

(And the appropriate dolls brings over her wallet...wow, that's an impressive roll of money she has! She's just nonchalantly sifting through it.)

How expensive is colored film, again?

[WHY is Kreutzer so loaded?! Aside from an arched eyebrow, Hajime displays no reaction to this. Doesn't help that he's blown most of his money as of late on building that darkroom and buying more camera supplies.]

It's pretty expensive.

[And that price he calmly and emotionlessly quotes you? It's actually not that expensive. You're paying for that film you ruined with Pinkie Pie, too.]

(A girl's gotta take care of herself, man. And Kreutzer knows how to take care of herself.)

Very well. Perhaps this will cover it?

(And she holds out several 20's. Of course you'd take this opportunity to squeeze extra money out of her. Why wouldn't you? After all, it's not like she gave you money before.)

[Hajime takes the money and quickly stuffs it into his pocket. That'll cover the film and then some, with the way prices work here. You've probably just funded one of the new camera lenses he's had his eye on.]

It should be sufficient.

(As long as you use it to take awesome pictures of her creations, Kreutzer won't mind.)

Good.

[Tieria was doing lawn chores after Hiling decided to 'test' her new weapons. The lawn was a mess and the drone mom wasn't happy about it. Damn it.

Was that a tiny doll flying by...?]

(Why yes, that was a tiny doll flying by! She's pretty cute, isn't she? Especially with that little ensemble she's wearing and the whole "she's a doll" thing going on.

Nonetheless, the messy lawn catches her attention.)

Was your lawn under attack?

[It... spoke...

He stared for a moment.]

You can speak?

(She nods.)

I can. I'm capable of much more, as you can see. I am Platina.

I am Tieria Erde.

Do you... belong to someone?

I do; she is a seamstress named Kreutzer.

Currently, she's having me and other dolls advertise her skills for those who require new attire for prom or daily lives.

Oh... prom. [Right. That. He'd been talking to Ken about it.]

Is everyone going to this prom?

If not everyone, most of the town will be there. Kreutzer isn't sure if she'll be able to attend; many people are looking for proper attire to wear, you see.

It does seem strange that she would put so much effort into clothing for others to attend and yet not attend herself.

Very much so. However, she'd prefer making sure all of her clients go with their outfits than she going before finishing them all.

I see.

And she has sent you and others like you out to advertise?

She has. She figured that despite all of the unnatural things in Mayfield, flying dolls are surprisingly rare, so people are more likely to investigate.

Well, that is true. [He couldn't deny the logic of that plan.] It does draw attention.

I'll be sure to tell her the plan worked.

Do you plan on going to prom?

I had considered it.

Something holds you back from attending?

It feels frivolous in light of our current situation.

Being in Mayfield, I assume?

Yes.

It is tragic, but perpetually looming in darkness will leave you indistinguishable from the shadows.

But indulging in unecessary distractions will get us no closer to our goals of returning home.

Then think of it as a morale booster; those who have lost hope or are losing hope need reminders on the importance of combating Mayfield. A gathering such as this one lightens the tension; a soldier with no zeal is no soldier at all.

[Tieria sighed. He wasn't convinced, and a tiny talking doll really wasn't going to get him there.]

I suppose there must be some who need that.

[He didn't consider himself among that lot.]

Some, yes. Just as there are some who do not need such morale boosts. Would you consider yourself part of the latter?

[Well, Tieria would, but some might disagree. Still, he was very stubborn and didn't get trodden down into apathy easily.]

I would.

Then by all means, do whatever you need to do to get by. If not a party, then whatever you normally do, but I shouldn't have to tell you the dangers of being reckless.

No. You do not. [Tieria might have looked a bit insulted at the thought.] Being reckless will get us nowhere. Look what happened after the Dairy Incident. And there are plenty of things back home I can look at for reminders on the dangers. [He didn't need some little floating magic doll to tell him what was reckless and what wasn't.]

Then we can only hope people will learn from their mistakes...or perhaps keep eyes on those who tend to be reckless; a watch of sorts. Either way.

(It didn't occur to her just how much she might be annoying Tieria. Kind of comes with being all mysterious and stuff.)

[That got a bit of a sad, but dark look. He'd learned from his mistakes. He had used to admonish others for being reckless until he had found a way to justify being the same way for some time. However, it hadn't done anything but land him in trouble. And, while sometimes for the greater good, he did know it wasn't always the right answer.]
