Vingt-Quatre † another year unacknowledged
[Ciel didn't sleep the night of May 2nd. The 3rd doesn't really mean much to her. She can't say she looked forward to or dreaded the day, but remembering clearly what she received from the Post Office at the same time exactly one year ago... She's undeniably apprehensive, yes. So it wasn't really a surprise to find the package by the mailbox, when she took a quick glance outside the living room window at the crack of dawn.
...No sense dragging it out. She's come to terms with a number of things since anyway; the past year has been draining, but good things have happened. So not really thinking about what it may be, she takes the box inside and effortlessly opens it on the living room table.
...
A... book. A recipe book of baked goods, to be more specific. The last time she saw this must be a decade or so ago.
H...ah. This town really has a sense of humor, huh? Briefly closing her eyes, she rubs her temple beneath the frame of her glasses. After continuing to idly stare at it for a few more seconds with an expressionless face, she resumes the day by throwing out the packaging and bringing the tome with her to the kitchen.
This is useless to her as a memento. She doesn't have much time these days to wallow on by herself anyway, so maybe it's a strangely fortunate thing that of all possible objects, it ended up being the records of her parents' hard work. With how much cooking she's been doing since her arrival here, it's well feasible that she'll be able to make a great deal of what's written down in there on her own - provided that Mayfield's got the necessary ingredients, anyway.
She's already decided on a typical pancakes breakfast today, but this'll be a good read before work. ...Maybe she should bring it with her too, she could try a few things out after class.]

[Right, there was also prom. Then THAT MEANS ONE THING.] I'm sure everyone must be aware of it by now, but don't forget that Prom is on the 18th, roughly two weeks from now! Talented tailors and seamstresses are already offering their services, so it shouldn't be hard to find something nice to wear. As Mr. Quinn already mentioned last week, dates are optional, so don't be afraid to come alone. You may even meet someone there, so don't be shy!
That said! [here it comes...] I'm in care of a sheltered young boy who's not very good around people. He is quite important to me, so I'd like to find him a charming young lady around his age to accompany him to Prom. ...Though a boy wouldn't matter either actually, I'd be okay with that! He may be a bit crass and rude at times and talk like he's much older than his prepubescent looks, but you have my word that he's an exemplary gentlemen when he behaves. Sporting the image of wise and cool, he is actually quite knowledgeable in history and prides himself to be quite intelligent and capable. He does seem to harbor an uncanny weakness to women with golden blond hair and crimson red eyes, but please don't be deterred. With raven hair smooth as silk and pale skin like fine porcelain, his appearances are actually quite angelic. If that's still not quite enough to cause consideration, I'm willing to negotiate with anyone interested... other means to incite acceptance. So if there's any interest or more questions, please let me know!
[Hmm. Hmm. It may be obvious to some, but there IS more than one shotapire in town, isn't there... but it's not like she's PURPOSEFULLY trying to create some confusion, not at all--!]

I. Grocery store → Church ;; Early Afternoon
[Guess who's carrying 5 million bags of stuff again! ...No beef, potatoes, carrotsand other typical curry ingredients and such today, however. Still in her civilian clothes, Ciel seems to be exclusively carrying flour, fruits, sugar, eggs, and other things one would presumably need in baking. She's doing fine whether you're just watching from the sides or walking towards her, she's usually pretty good at balance right...]
--Ah, please be careful!
[STILL MIGHT BE IN EVERYONE'S BEST INTEREST to avoid collisions just in case, though... Better be safe than sorry! She's got like two dozen eggs in there, that would be bad to break, ;;;]
II. Church ;; Afternoon
[Anyone who steps in during the evening will be slammed in the face with the enticing sweet scent of baked good. ...But isn't the kitchen in the back? Even if it may be going through excessive use today (which is actually is...), how does it really spread--
--Oh.
If you walk further in, the fact that there's a plate of mixed berry flaugnarde next to a tray of two dozens canelé might explain why it smelled so good. Both are still hot too, upon closer inspection; it must have been baked within the last hour. No one else seems to be around, but the smell is definitely coming from the hallway leading towards the left.
...

III. Church ;; Late Evening
[The night is much calmer. Despite everything, this date today means something, she supposed, so at least something has to be said to whoever Above to acknowledge the significance.
In the end, Ciel settles on reciting the Memorare in French. Prostrated in front of the Altar with her headdress on, which is rare, she chants quietly.]
Amen.
[Once she's done, however, she doesn't stand up from the spot. ...She owes more than a simple prayer, doesn't she? So even if the Church is silent once more, she'll keep her eyes closed and stay bowed.]

[It's past midnight. It may be on a particularly tall tree. It may be on a lamppost. It may even be on the roof of your house. Nothing too strange about that, right... Interrupt?]

It's the end of the semester dance that the highschool hosts every year. To avoid the drones and make it more accessible for everyone in town however, all are invited, so you can just think of it like a big party. Does that clarify?

III;
good thing he's been away from the phone all day to miss any potential mix ups. he's been away from most of his usual haunts today, actually, busy doing... things that aren't at all related to Ciel's birthday of course. why would he ever do anything with that information he had learned??
actually, he'd been planning on moseying to the church a lot sooner, but being sidetracked set his schedule back a little. at least he has enough manners to stick near the door in silence once he arrives, wary of accidentally interrupting her.]
no subject
dunno who you're talking about son... \o_O/ but THAT MAY BE FOR THE BEST YES
what no blasphemy there was even a fair chance that Merem wouldn't remember, CHARLES WHY CAN'T YOU BE SELFISH AND BRATTY FOR WHEN IT COUNTS?? IS THAT REALLY ASKING FOR TOO MUCH
He comes here enough for her internal alarm to gloss over the alert, oops. Not to mention that when all's said and done, she's still sort of... preoccupied, will you. So even if his presence is registered, the "oh someone is here I should probably finish up" doesn't occur to her. MEANING, he might have to wait a bit.
Is he actually going to do that, what happened to kiddish impatience...]

Nadeko-chan! [At least it was SUPER EASY to slip to that instead of 'Sengoku-san', hnng she really is the cutest--] I am, actually. It's for someone here whom I've known for years, but you don't have to be concerned about that. [Because even if Nadeko is within age range, like hell Ciel would put the sweet little girl on a date with Merem.] How have you been? [She sounds very upbeat to be speaking with her again. Ciel won't deny to have hammed the cheerful excitement up, but it's Nadeko, alright... She wants her to relax and be in a good mood too, if possible!]

CRASH.

[THANKFULLY REFLEXES ARE USEFUL ALSO FOR EVERYDAY LIFE. Grocery shopping is not exempt.
The bags of flour and sugar can cushion themselves, but thankfully she manages to keep hold of the two carton of eggs even if the collision made her drop her basket completely. Wincing a bit, she sits up and carefully sets the fragile goods aside, and looks up to see the white-haired boy behind the cart she ran into while taking in her surroundings at a quick glance (that's a lot of cereal boxes and other various sweets...)]

Well, after Sakura's numerous come-and-goes, she wasn't sure how good of an idea it would be to approach her immediately. Especially with her living with her Servant now and her older sister also being around, Ciel figured that Sakura was already in good hands and there's no need to over-impose. ...She did plan to speak to the girl eventually, maybe become reacquainted down the line also. Just that realistically speaking, what they used to have is impossible to regain. So she figured... she'd take her time?
But today wasn't really her day of choosing, neither is the grocery store right now.
So for the first time in quite some time, caught completely off-guard by a familiar voice and a more familiar face, she...
Gives Sakura a wide-eyed stare and drops everything she's holding onto the ground.
Sorry going to gape at you a little too ;; JUST GIVE HER A SECOND... OR FIVE...]

Sometimes, it was nice to simply float for awhile. He could generate a bit of wind to propel himself, but at this point he sees no need, just floating as high as he can.
. . . and it's pretty high, at this point. Higher than the houses, and most trees. He's also glowing slightly, a bright blue, and shouldn't be hard to spot at all. He hasn't noticed anybody perched anywhere, not yet.]

--Oh just another day - or well, night in this case - in Mayfield, huh. It's hard to be surprised at anything when anyone with any sort of ridiculous powers can end up here and regain them with a few months' time, but said powers were still neat to witness, whenever they're seen displayed. As someone who's grown fond of the night air and tall places especially in the last few years, what Sky High's doing is something she can appreciate.
...
That looked comfy, too... She won't disturb him, but she will sit up and squint a bit at him. Not that it's necessary, given her more than perfect eyesight, but it's still been a while since she last ran into someone this late at night. They definitely weren't flying and glowing either, so she's more intrigued than anything else.

Denken Sie daran, gütigste Jungfrau Maria, die nie bekannt war, dass jeder, der deinen Schutz floh, deine Hilfe flehte, oder suchte deine Fürbitte gelassen wurde ohne fremde Hilfe.

This is an unusual sight. He had known Ciel believed in God, but he had never actually seen her pray and it was a little odd. He had thought of her as intelligent, but religion was the ultimate naive belief, so this was... very strange indeed.
But he remains silent respectfully, just watching.]
no subject
They're going to need to discuss about that someday. Not a theological debate, no, but just the idea of being open to things and not outright reject them based on one factor alone. Intelligence includes being able to pick out pros and cons of any given subject, knowledge is accepting what one knows but also what one doesn't, after all.
But later, maybe, or some other day down the road. Either way, knowing that she's being watched by a familiar presence, she wraps the prayer up quickly. Tucking away the silver rosary she carried into her sleeve at the same time she gets off her knees to stand up, that may be one less religious symbolism Cain'll have to catch sight of and deal with.
Turning around with her usual smile, she then greets the blond boy brightly.]
Good evening, Cain. I'm sorry for the delay; did I make you wait for long?

IV Fashionably late, as Dante should be. Cool people come out at night.
Maybe you're just passing by his rooftop, maybe not. Either way, you'll probably see this guy already chilling there...or at least hear the riffs he's peacefully strumming on his guitar. He's admittedly a little drunk, especially since he's strumming the strings with a bottle of Jack Daniel's, but he's making it work. You should totally see what he's up to, Ciel.)

So hmm, what is going on down there? mO_Om]

III. church; whatever WHATEVER can't not take advantage fight me
when Abel had started to enter the Church, tonight (later than usual, but... finding himself rather restless this evening and having been busy during the day, it was inevitable he found himself here), he hadn't expected the scene that lay on the other side of the doors.
the moment he heard the soft voice murmuring familiar words, if in a language that's been dead a long... long many years to his earth... he knew that the woman prostrated in prayer at the altar was Ciel. her blue hair may be hidden by her habit, today, but... there was no mistaking it.
and something about this...
it was... sad.
if one were to ask him why he drew such a conclusion, it's entirely possible that the priest would find himself at a loss. he can't define the very reason why -- was it her inflection? something about her posture? was it the choice of the prayer itself, spoken in a language he'd last heard 'Elesia' use freely? he doesn't know... but at the same time, he believes it to be true regardless.
he almost retreats from where he'd come. this moment, while sad... also seemed private. maybe there was something in this that he wasn't sure was his place to interrupt.
but... in the end, he finds himself hesitating -- something in his chest tugging in a familiar way. a pang of concern, or regret... and a similarly familiar wish. it wasn't the first time it had crossed his mind, a worry for her well-being and happiness. it might seem trivial -- childish, even, but... this wish and longing behind it was real, none-the-less.
he really wishes... that she were happy. and if she isn't, for whatever reason... then, he'll do what he can to try and rectify that wrong.
his feet remain in place where they are, at the aisle just before the back-most row of pews. perhaps he won't leave, but... for something like this...
he won't disturb her, either. he ducks his head, eyes on the carpeting before his boots, and fingers softly holding the rosary hanging from his neck. she can pray, and he can pray her faith is rewarded. he believes she deserves that much.]
it's not a fight it's just rolling around deeper in.... WHATEVER THEY'RE IN Q_Q
...
She may be unaware of what he's doing, but she would argue that such faith is misplaced once still. She's not praying to be granted or receive anything. Even if the words themselves may verbally state so, this is ultimately just the staking of a reminder, about the path ahead that's still left to follow.]
...
[A silent lull settles. Maybe it's just the atmosphere here at night, or maybe she's done something again. Whatever it is, a subtle feel of clear serenity will quietly envelop the whole interior. It really is an ideal atmosphere to pray and meditate, so... If he can grant her some extra time, this peace that albeit holds a tint of forlorn nostalgia will stay for a few moments more.]
