Data Recording 013: It's like a dream come true! Well, if AIs could dream...

[Tachikoma spent most of yesterday doing what it usually does, poking it's cannon port in anything and everything that looks new and interesting! In fact, there's a bunch of new flowers everywhere! And clearly flowers can not be harmful to Tachikoma. Well, again anyway. Though it would be a good idea to confirm that by experimenting with these flowers, so there's no reason NOT to pick and analyze them! Unfortunately it couldn't really find anything odd about the flowers, other than it has no record of them. Then again, Tachikoma doesn't really have a very comprehensive database of flowers as it doesn't come up much at its job. Still it went to its recharge station feeling that it gained some new information that day!

And then it woke up today. Woke up with a yawn and a stretch.

...Wait, woke up? Stretched? YAWNED?!]

Oh wow!! I'm human!! This is great!!

[Yep. Tachikoma is human and is jumping for joy at this fact. Jumping for joy without any clothes on. Someone might want to point that out to the new human.]

Action B | Anywhere | Later that day

[There is an extremely hyper (and clothed) girl running around town with the biggest smile on her face. Sometimes running around in circles. She is going up to people, shaking hands, hugging people, and just reveling in the fact that not only is she human, but this presents a whole bunch of NEW EXPERIENCES for her.]

This is so great! I can feel things with my skin! And smell things! Oh! I bet I can eat things too! Being human is so different!!

[Emmett is walking around with a box, that has some various pieces of steel inside, as Brown walks once again he is trapped inside his own head, in which he may or may not bump into that girl that is running around]

[This isn't a bump, this is a full on tackle glomp as Tachikoma gives Emmett the friendliest and most excitable of hugs. There might be a little bouncing from sheer joy as she talks, even.]

Mister Emmett! Mister Emmett! Look! I'm human! It's been so interesting and I've been experiencing things so differently that it is amazing!!

[...She hasn't stopped hugging yet. She might not realize that hugs aren't suppose to last this long.]

[There goes the box he was carrying. Emmett has some wide eyes as his mind is brought back to reality. Great scott. What is going on? Oh, I'm being hugged. Brown hugs back] Great scott.

[His mind races, ok, Mayfield is obvoiusly being Twilight Zone like again. This person knows him and hasn't been human before. So, who does Emmett know that fits that. That would be either Twilight or Tachikoma and that doesn't sound like Twilight. So, logic says - ]

[The prolonged hugging is alright as he gives her the benfit of the doubt]

Yep! It's me, Tachikoma! And I was surprise to see I was a girl too! I'm actually not sure why though.

[She gets a look of concentration on her face as she mulls it over.]

Tanks in general don't really have a gender, and our AIs were programmed to be gender neutral. It might have something to do with the pitch of my voice synthesizing software. It was set to be friendly and happy sounding, so maybe what ever did this used that as a basis?

[Ok, now the hugging is going on for just a bit too long and becoming slightly uncomfortable]

I can see you're overcome with this moment of being human. Any idea how this came about?

[It's another average Mayfield day when... well, wait, maybe it's not such an average day, because a very excited girl with a strangely familiar voice has just wooshed past, apparently having the time of her life.]

Er...

[Oh dear. She might hurt herself if she keeps that up... so she follows! And calls out!]

Excuse me! Excuse me, miss! Please, slow down!

[Tachikoma turns around to see who's addressing her and her face breaks out into an even wider grin than what she already had, happy to see a friend. And then she hugs Dakki. She's really trying out that tactile sense of touch.]

Miss Dakki, it's me! Tachikoma! I woke up this morning as a human!

Really woke up! I yawned and everything! It was great!

...And cold, but then I got some clothes, so that went away pretty quick. But I got to experience being cold! Not just as a temperature but as the uncomfortable sensation that was lowering my body temperature!! Isn't that great?!

[That was a short chase. Not that Dakki's particularly upset about it. Although the hug is unexpected, she does return it. Lightly. And carefully.]

Tachikoma? Really? You're... oh! You are human!

[She looks more horrified than pleased at this news.]

That's... that's... well, yes, it is interesting to experience those things, isn't it?

[She puts a hand on Tachikoma's head and looks all around for anything that might hurt her. Oh dear, oh dear, something turning the artificial lifeforms into humans, that won't do...]

[Tachikoma hasn't noticed the worried look on Dakki's face. She's all smiles and talking, with a little bit of a bounce because of giddy excitement.]

I know! This is the best day of gathering data for me so far!! I'm doing my best to do all kinds of things and being sure to take note how a human body reacts and such so the memories stay permanent in the human brain! And I'm so looking forward to sharing this information with the other Tachikomas so they can know what it was like as well!

[He was minding his own business... when he noticed the overly hyper girl. Well, that was refreshing, to see more smiling faces within this town.]

[And a tackle-glomp for you, random stranger, as well! Tachikoma seems to want to make the most out of suddenly gaining the ability to touch and feel things. All the while she's babbling to herself a mile a minute.]

This is so wonderful! Touching things is so different as a human! And so far each person feels different from the last! There's so much new data to obtain!

I've never been human until today! Everything is like a new experience for me today!

I do! I really do! This is so much fun! No matter how much information about human reactions I can learn from others, as an AI, I could never have a first-hand experience myself. Until today! This is so great, and I know I probably should be more systematic in what reactions I can encounter but just running around and finding them out at random while seeing things in a new way is just so enticing!

I guess that's a good point, but AIs don't exactly age or develop along classical biological lines. Though I guess you can find parallels in a developing brain and an evolving program that is made to learn by itself...

But you're right! I didn't even think about how I could get hurt! I wonder what pain feels like? I was cold this morning, that was kinda painful, but not hurting, more like an irritation... Oh, being human means I can die, too, right? I wonder if can see an afterlife! Maybe now as a human, I have a ghost! That would be something!

...Oh wait, but then how would I be sure that my memories and experiences got past on to the other Tachikomas. Hrrm... I might have to hold off on trying to test death out until I'm sure I can do that.

[So Ted's found himself turned into a chipmunk for the second time in his life. He's wearing a tiny replica of his normal Blue Beetle costume, and he's been wandering the streets of Mayfield, attempting to get all the way back to 506 Ricardo without getting stepped on or chased by dogs or eaten by a cat...

...being a chipmunk is a dangerous existence, man.

At any rate, a chipmunk dressed like a bright blue bug goes racing by Tachikoma! And he looks so huggable and cute!]

[It does indeed! And Tachikoma notice the huggable cute blue chipmunk almost immediately.]

Was that a blue squirrel? Oh I bet it feels different from other squirrels! Come back here mister blue squirrel!

[Yep, she's now chasing squirrels. This is a day Tachikoma won't soon forget.]

[Ted hears a childish voice calling out for a blue squirrel. There's only one person out there this could be directed towards. Getting squeezed to death by a hyper girl is not exactly high on his list of things that would be really awesome that day, and so he will drop to all fours and start running like his little chipmunk life depends on it.

...but he'll have to skid to a stop because he can't cross the street with all that traffic! He's totally vulnerable to be grabbed now, poor guy.]

[Aaaaand gotcha! Thanks to the opportunity provided by the traffic, Tachikoma grabs the squirrel and hugs it to her chest.]

Look at that! I caught a blue squirrel! This was a lot simpler than any of the other animals I've chased after today. Let's get a look at you mister blue squirrel!

[Tachikoma holds up the squirrel at arms length at face level to give them a once over before a look of confusion appears.]

Wait a minute, you're not a blue squirrel, you're a squirrel in a costume that's blue...

Why would someone put a squirrel in a costume?

Nope! Tachikoma's are military think tanks, after all! But I woke up in my recharge pod with a human body today! This day has been so fun!!

What do you normally eat?

[Tsubaki wants to make sure Tachikoma has a good day as a human, and that includes eating good food!]

Oh, I didn't eat at all, I just ran on rechargeable power cell. So, I guess you could say I normally consume energy.

I'm really looking forward to trying some food, but I can't enter any of the stores still. I guess whatever made me human didn't let the drones know...
