3rd Spellcard: Haphazard Exchange "The Priestess and the Immortal Flame"

Action: Around Mayfield

(Moar Mayfield madness for Miss Miko...yeah, fun stuff.

Anyone who knows her probably won't recognize her:

But hey, she's just walking and/or flying about Mayfield and accidentally lighting things on fire. She'll try to put them out, but those attempts really end up as "turn on the person's sprinkler system as fast as possible. Still, here she is: fire and flight and all of that fun stuff. Catch her if you can~)

What'd I do to deserve that?

Didn't I tell you not to get involved with that woman?

[In a roundabout way. She did warn about the woman randomly asking about magic and shit.]

But I told her it was divine power; I never said it was magic!

And yet she's calling it magecraft which is her world's term for magic! She's an idiot, Reimu! She doesn't understand when to leave things alone even when she's told to.

[Marisa is going to wing a handful of danmaku at Reimoukou.]

And then you had to go tell her about the incidents and how we stopped them. Did you forget that stopping that stuff if your job, not mine? I don't get involved because I have to or for some greater good or purpose; I'm just bored or thinking I'll find some awesome loot out of it. [Or she can possibly show Reimu up, but that's beside the point.]

We are not 'the equivalent of Enforcers' in Gensokyo. I'm sure as hell not. And neither are you. Don't go making alliances and stuff with that woman! She's a damn loose canon that will make you end up having to do more work than you want to. [Marisa knows she can use Reimu's laziness against her.] Now she thinks you'll aid her when she does something stupid, like stick her head in a dragon's mouth because she just happened to feel some kind of magic emanating from it and thinks it's her duty and right to go poke it.

And when you, being you, take your time or feel like enjoying the sweet Ciel makes and don't help her as fast as she thinks you should, do you think she's going to understand? Do you think she's going to calm down? Or do you think she's going to get pissed off and violent because she's just a damn brute and, in her mind, you might as well have magic like the rest of us?

[Have another handful of bullets.]

And what the hell was with you telling her to apologize to me? Goddamnit, Reimu, you should know when I don't want ANYTHING to do with someone. I've had a ward up about my house for weeks now that bars her from setting foot on the property.

[Her tirade is winding down and she actually looks less angry and more distraught.]

I'm so tired of yelling at and beating the snot out of you. [Even if it has been kind of empowering, Marisa knows it won't last until Reimu gets enough back to be able to wipe the floor with her again.] I've been here too long and... and... and... parts of it have been hell.

[She throws one last star, but it's slow and pathetically weak, as she's not even trying to make them effective anymore. This one, if it hits, will just comically bounce off her head.]

...and I hate that I'm yelling this at Mokou's face. [sulk]

(Yup; this was pretty much how it started. To say Reimu was worried about getting her shit kicked in again was an understatement...)

(Reimu feels as though she should say something in response to this, but she knows better than to interrupt Marisa when she just needs to let out her emotions. Instead, she's just going to stand there and take the danmaku as it comes; of course it hurts, but putting up a fight during a time like this would only make things worse. She can't remember saying it was Marisa's job to do what Reimu did. Guess Bazett mixed up words along the way...)

(But Reimu knows when she's in the wrong. She shouldn't have butted in to their personal quarrel...which felt odd to admit since she did the same thing in the past [*cough* Mokou and Kaguya *cough*], but Marisa's her best friend; she gets the benefit of the doubt and the Hakurei miko now understands just how much Marisa doesn't like Bazett. That point hits her at same time that star bullet beams her in the face...)

(But then it feels like things veer off-topic. From the sounds of it, this goes beyond her feud with Bazett. It was the exact same thing that worried Reimu most when she first appeared in Mayfield: the length of time Marisa had been here. She still feels awful about not knowing about this sooner, but how could she? This was something beyond any Gensokyo magic she has and hasn't heard of; not even the all-powerful dragon god could have done this...)

(Reimu has been accepting every bullet that hit her. This behavior was much too Byakuren to be standard for Reimu, but Marisa gets the best friend benefits. All of the best friend benefits. Even the ears that don't fight back benefit.

But it looks like ~~she timed out~~ Marisa finally wore herself out; that last star bounces off Reimu's head without much more effect than that. If there was one benefit to attacking Mokou's body like this, it was that she'd heal up faster than Reimu normally would...right?

Reimu wasn't sure what to say at the moment. There was plenty she could say, but not enough of them would be the right things to say. Being in Mokou's body might've been nice since she could fly and had her fire powers back, but this wasn't the face Marisa was used to. However, despite the appearance, Mokou certainly wouldn't extend her arms out for a hug after getting smacked around like that. Reimu could admit that this was her fault, but she knew better than to let the guilt keep her down; not when Marisa was like this. Best friends are always there for each other during their worst times. Reimu's going to be there for all of yours, Marisa.)

[Marisa did tense up a bit when Mokou's body hugged her, but that only lasted a second before the witch accepted Reimu's gesture for what it was. She hugged back. Tightly.]

(Reimu's hug is just as tight and meaningful. She could say she was sorry, but with how many times that word was used, it'd have practically no meaning in this situation.

But after a while, Reimu finally manages to get something out.)

I'll stay out of your affairs unless you say otherwise.

...you don't have to do that. Just... get more from me about it before you get involved, ze. There's a lot of things that happened here that I don't talk about.

(She pauses for a moment, thinking back to those girls who stopped by her house after she set up the barrier.)

What about two people named Rin and Hirai Yukari? They told me they were friends of yours.

...Rin Tohsaka? She's an ally of mine. A really strong magus. And Shana's a friend. She kinda... well, she reminded me a bit of you and I missed you so...

[No, she doesn't even realize she'd just automatically switched to Shana's nickname and not the name she tells everyone else.]

Rin showed me that attack she has; it's pretty devastating.

(That's alright, Marisa; have a reminder!)

...Shana? Does she go by two names?

Why was Rin showing off? [Marisa shook her head and smiled for the first time since booting Reimu to the head.]

Oh, Shana... she has that Yukari name. Shana is just a nickname she has.

I asked her to use in on the barrier I set up around my house. A few people seemed interested in my defensive abilities, Rin included.

(Everyone needs a white mage.)

Oh, okay. I've just been calling her Hirai; it'd feel weird calling her Yukari.

Just call her Shana.

Works for me.

And for what it's worth, I think I'm getting better at this pyromancy stuff; I lit Remilia's shoe on fire earlier without burning anything else.

...why did you light her shoes on fire?

She caught me off-guard and things went in their own direction from there.

We could probably find something else to set on fire, though. Might as well have some fun before Mayfield switches us back, right?
