[Action 1: Around Town]

[If you are to walk around town today, you might see a flyer on some of the buildings or poles. If or when you read it, it'll go as follows.]

Are you tired of this town's mysteries? Do you have an inquisitive mind? Or are you having some troubles aside from the obvious ones?

Then come to Shoutaro Hidari's Detective Agency. We solve all cases Hard-Boiled Style.

If you have some information about the town you'd like to share, I'm up to building an information network. We can share with each other about what we find. Everyone is welcome to pop in, but people with investigative/minds for puzzles and the like are high up on the list.

We are located in MacCready & Sons Law Office.

[Shoutaro is sitting with his back to the door, cooly waiting for people to reply. He's even added a nice sign for the agency, which thankfully the drones have yet to question him about (though he IS ready for that eventuality.). If he hears a knock at the door he'll answer.]

That's...amazingly useless. I see why you've decided to turn your office into something else.

My own line of work is far more useful here than what it's actually for, that's for sure.

[He gets up and heads to the coffee pot.]

You want some? It's...not too great, but it's better than falling asleep.

Sure, I'll take some.

[Dude's pretty much lived in a coffee/tea shop for a while before coming to Mayfield. He's bracing for disappointment in a cup.]

[He takes a sip. Far FAR too bitter. And that's WITH three sugars.]

The Boss made better...and he set the stuff on fire sometimes.

[Wow, that is some horrible coffee. Hajime continues drinking it black anyway.]

If you made this yourself, you need more practice.

Not me. One of the drone secretaries. They insist on it. Though, I'm sure with the beans they use, I can't do much better.

I still manage to turn out a better cup at home, and I'm fairly certain all the coffee here comes from the same stock.

[He takes another sip and grimaces.]

Then again, it's not like it would be hard to surpass this.

No doubt. Doesn't help that the coffee maker we have back home in the office isn't anything like the ones here.

[He sets the cup down. he can't take anymore. And he won't add any more sugar when there's company.]

The 'wife' seems to be a bit better, but I try not to eat anything she makes. The dog we have is quite happy.

I've learned to ignore the worst of the kids and the dog. The wife remains difficult. She tried to blow me up last week. Got the kitchen instead. I made it out a window just in time.

[And with the way he takes a sip of his coffee and the tone of voice he was using, you'd think he was casually talking about the weather.]

....Your 'wife' needs to see a therapist.

[Shoutaro is feeling quite blessed right now.]

To be fair, the kitchen was coming to life and trying to kill us at the time...but she was intentionally aiming that bomb at me instead of the fridge. Wasn't like she gave me any warning. Took out half the house.

[Another sip of that coffee. Hajime still doesn't sound too bothered about almost getting his butt blown up in a haunted kitchen.]

This town just gets weirder all the time.

[Hajime nods and finally puts the awful cup of coffee down.]

Did you get one of those census forms? The ones that vanished? It was as though I'd been compelled to fill mine out...

I did. The communist thing came up way too stereotypically. They're really playing up the Cold War stuff here.

[He thought about it.]

Yeah...I did feel compelled to do it too. I just thought I was bored...but now that you mention it.

[It's pretty clear the census form didn't make Hajime too happy.]

I'd intended to lie on it, but it wouldn't even allow me to fill it out as though I were human...and it only got worse from there.

I managed to....fudge one of them by being evasive...but I brought up The Boss's death in one part.

I brought up several things I'd just as soon not remember. The best I could do was leave out a few details, but more than enough was there.

[Yep, he's definitely not happy about that.]
