[Action 1: Around Town]

[If you are to walk around town today, you might see a flyer on some of the buildings or poles. If or when you read it, it'll go as follows.]

Are you tired of this town's mysteries? Do you have an inquisitive mind? Or are you having some troubles aside from the obvious ones?

Then come to Shoutaro Hidari's Detective Agency. We solve all cases Hard-Boiled Style.

If you have some information about the town you'd like to share, I'm up to building an information network. We can share with each other about what we find. Everyone is welcome to pop in, but people with investigative/minds for puzzles and the like are high up on the list.

We are located in MacCready & Sons Law Office.

[Shoutaro is sitting with his back to the door, cooly waiting for people to reply. He's even added a nice sign for the agency, which thankfully the drones have yet to question him about (though he IS ready for that eventuality.). If he hears a knock at the door he'll answer.]

[Tsukasa just sits there and LOOKS at Shoutaro.]

You know that this is a stupid idea, right?

What's so stupid about it? It's a brilliant way to get a wide range of information about this place.

[Tsukasa just raises an eyebrow at his Rider cohort.]

Yes, but you realize that most of the people here are not right in the head, correct? Or are going to mess with you like Daiki would do to me.

I think I'll be able to distinguish who's crazy and who's not, Decade. I AM a detective after all. And we're excellent judges of character.

[Huh? What in the heck're you talking about Shoutaro? You mess up on that all the time!]

[He frowns a bit.]

Speaking of brains, is there any word on your partner? He would truly be of use here in Mayfield.

None yet. I've tried calling the office...but no luck on getting through.

[Hajime looks about as happy as he ever does as he skeptically glances around the office.]

Do you really think you're going to get anywhere with this?

Why not? If I don't try anything, I won't get anywhere. And you can only observe and take notes for yourself for so long.

I suppose it's as good a use as any of your time in between this town's bouts of...strangeness.

[He's trying very, very hard not to think about the mood slime or that discomfiting census now...]

Better than trying to concentrate on the same casework that's been brought up to me once a week. It would be a waste of my talents...if I had any talent in lawyering.

[He looks over to the multiple folders.]

It is a good source of scrap paper though.

[Hajime follows Shoutaro's gaze to the folders and shakes his head.]

At least the job they've assigned you is quiet. The drones get rather loud and whiny if you ignore them for too long at the butcher's counter.

...what sort of cases would they even assign here, anyway? The way they pretend everything's perfect, I cannot imagine it would be much.

[He picks one up.]

Client is attempting to file a grievance as his neighbor's fence is a fraction of an inch over ordinance, and refuses to lower it.

[Another folder.]

Client is seeking legal advice about disposal of animal waste by another party on their property.

It goes on like this really. I suppose this is supposed to represent how America is really lawsuit-happy. Kind of petty, don't you think?

That's...amazingly useless. I see why you've decided to turn your office into something else.

My own line of work is far more useful here than what it's actually for, that's for sure.

[He gets up and heads to the coffee pot.]

You want some? It's...not too great, but it's better than falling asleep.

Sure, I'll take some.

[Dude's pretty much lived in a coffee/tea shop for a while before coming to Mayfield. He's bracing for disappointment in a cup.]

[He takes a sip. Far FAR too bitter. And that's WITH three sugars.]

The Boss made better...and he set the stuff on fire sometimes.

[Wow, that is some horrible coffee. Hajime continues drinking it black anyway.]

If you made this yourself, you need more practice.

Not me. One of the drone secretaries. They insist on it. Though, I'm sure with the beans they use, I can't do much better.

I still manage to turn out a better cup at home, and I'm fairly certain all the coffee here comes from the same stock.

[He takes another sip and grimaces.]

Then again, it's not like it would be hard to surpass this.
