002 :: Class is in Session

A: Action ;; Mayfield High ;; Morning

[Padmé certainly was fairly astounded to learn she actually had a job to do in this town- one she apparently has had for a few years. Teaching the young people of Mayfield about civics and government... talking politics certainly was something she was more than capable of, at least when it concerned the Republic.

But they certainly didn't have a Republic here. The functions of this government were completly foreign to the young Senator. But either way, she has a job to do, and Padmé wasn't one to dawdle when work needed to be done.

So she's standing at the front of a classroom, open book in hand with a professional smile on her face.]

B: On the phone ;; Later

It is odd how Americans portray themselves in these books of theirs. They certainly like to highlight on the finest atributes, don't they?

And I suppose a President is Earth's equivilant to a Chancellor in the Republic back at home...?

[That last bit is more muttered to herself than anything. She may be reading a book while chatting on the phone, okay?]

From what I've seen of the textbooks, they're more propaganda than educational material.

Chancellor in the Repiblic? May I ask what nation you are from?

Even in my world Americans are very... Enthusiastic about their own strengths.

[Neville hesitantly raises a hand. It's nice to see a non-drone teacher, but some of them are... pretty intimidating.]

Professor? I'm a bit confused about a point here...

-If the voice sounds familiar, it's because this winged girl was in class.-

Not quite. A Chancellor presides over a senate, so it's considered a legislative position. Like a Prime Minister. But a President, and their powers, are considered separate. They perform executive duties. It was a separation of powers done to ensure that no one person could completely control the government.

That's simply the way of history, miss! Every country will attempt to make themselves look better, look finer, look more human than others. Be it here, or in any other country, they will do such.

After all, there is hardly a finer form of propaganda than "history".

History is often written like that, and not just by the Americans. Most countries will take any opportunity to make themselves look better by glossing over their mistakes and highlighting their achievements.

I've learned tha' those books are a crock of crap, so I go fer a more practical approach with me class instead of teachin' from th' books 'round here. Th' way things are worded just don't sit right with me, either, love.
