First Henshin

[1. 734 Partridge Drive, locked to Housemates]

[Date was certain this wasn't his apartment. In fact, waking up in a strange bed with a strange woman next to him wasn't par for the course. After apologizing and bolting from the room, he scoured the area for clues. The pictures showed him and several people, children, a "pet", and a smiling wife. One thing was for certain, with the English everywhere, he wasn't in Japan anymore.]

I hope my English hasn't gotten rusty...

[2. Anywhere in Town, Wandering towards Brooks]

[No. Udon. Anywhere. Not even a cart. Nothing, except for this doctors outfit. He supposed he had to go to work or something, but the phonecall he got earlier this morning said that someone was "covering his shift". So he was free to wander in search for the elusive Udon.

Stopping in grocery stores yielded a lot of western food, and restaurants were all hamburger joints and other such places. Which wasn't BAD, he didn't mind hamburgers and steaks and stuff. But UDON! He resolved to buy the materials to try and make a half decent one.]

Ah this isn't good. I've got no Tanky, no Gorilla-chan, no nothing. What kind of crazy mixed up world did I enter?

Well then. [ He unloads his armful of food on the kitchen table and begins sorting through it as he talks. This is clearly a speech he's made before, and he rattles it off rather easily. ]

For lack of a better term, this place is a prison. People are brought here from different places, different periods of time, and even different worlds altogether. We are stripped of our things, including powers or special abilities, and shoved into families. We are expected to behave as befitting our role. No doubt you're the husband, so you'll be expected to go to work.

You can get your things back. Usually the town will put us through some kind of terrible situation, and after we have endured that, we get things in the mail. You can go to the post office to get stuff back sooner, but I would advise against that, as they take body parts or memories as payment.

There are people who are essentially "natives" to this place, we call them drones. They are... shells of human beings, for want of a better term. Overly cheerful and slightly obnoxious, yes, but largely harmless. So far, you and I are the only non-drones in the household. Normal people can be made into drones, however, so don't skip work too often or anger the authorities.

As for how we got here, we don't know. We don't know who is running things, or how they do what they do, but we do have clues. We also do not know how to escape- the town loops back on itself, and you can walk forever, but you'll always find yourself right back where you started.

Ah, I think that's about it. Any questions?

I think you're given a job when you arrive, but what do I know? I'm just the family dog.

Well, I'm not human, and apparently in the eyes of the town, that means dog.

Help yourself. The drone woman keeps plenty of food in the house.

I've learned to live with it. I don't have to go to work, which suits me fine, but I can't go into any of the businesses in town either.

Udon? I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the word.

Sounds like a deal to me. [ He extends a hand ] Ian Wavewalker, at your service.

... Should be easy enough to make, shouldn't it?

I have to say, you're a welcome replacement for the last head of the household. He and I didn't get along at all.

He was something of a... megalomaniac, if you will.

I'm not sure if that counts either.

Of course. I was going to take dinner on my ship, anyway.
