[action: Downtown]
[This street is empty. Not a single person can be seen. Even the notorious drones are absent. Only Minato is here, alone. Hands placed absent-mindedly in his pockets, he stares at the sky. It's perfect, as usual for Mayfield. Although given the past few months, he half-expected it to tear open any second.
October 4th had come and past by, yet this strange feeling hadn't left Minato. The sense that something was building up to a huge event, one that will leave disastrous consequences for everyone. It was like that for him last January too, as well as the next two months after. Except both times, he knew when that cataclysmic event would happen. This, he doesn't know when exactly the inevitable would strike, only that it would.
Was this how regular people lived? Man instinctively knows their death is coming, but most never know when the Reaper will come until he's close by with his rattling chains.
It's the same for Mayfield. In the end, nothing can stay unchanged forever. The town, which should have died a long time ago, still struggles to remain alive, fighting against its inevitable destruction. And in its own twisted way, it also tried to protect its inhabitants. There's a lot Mayfield has done that Minato can't condone, but for those aforementioned things, perhaps Mayfield deserves some props.
That doesn't mean he won't join in the final fight. People also deserve their right to make their own choices.
But for now, he'll appreciate the little time Mayfield gave him.
Hmm? Apparently the streets aren't completely empty. There's still one cat there...a familiar-looking one. Wait, could it be--?
"Coco?"
A year ago, Minato had taken in a stray cat. That same cat was killed in the bombing, and he never saw it again. And now, another cat like it was here.
......
Out of mere curiosity, he followed it. The cat walked down a dark alley, unmindful that it was being followed. And there Minato saw why.
In an overturned wood box, was a full litter of kittens.

If you need help in caring for them, I'm sure Ruby can provide... something. A demon cat from my imagination can care for them, can't she?
