[A - Action - Outside 754 Partridge Drive]

[Harry is sitting on the doorstep with his wand. Every so often he'd look around and if no one was watching, he would wave it around and pretend. But then he'd look sheepish and go back to thinking.]

[B - Action - School Playground]

[Harry was sitting alone on one of the benches in the school playground, his head buried in a book and his lunch not touched beside him. Who needs to eat anyway when you have a book like this one?]

[Lily's taken to dropping by every once in a while, despite protests. She can't really keep away now, not after learning of her connection to the young boy. Apparating would be so much easier, but it comes with startling Harry, so she opts to slowing down her bike at the porch, instead.]

Oh, hi Lily. [He manages a small smile.] Got this in the mail a few days ago. I thought it was Sirius' but then he told me I was a wizard. Still trying to let it sink in.

Happy? Excited? [She sits on the step next to him, stretching her legs.] Worried?

Mostly confused. But I guess I'm all those things too.

I would have been confused, myself, back then. But I had a friend who'd told me I was a witch long before I found that out. My family are all muggles--ordinary people, as you know.

Muggles? [He couldn't remember if Sirius had mentioned that or not ~~because the mun hasn't finished that thread yet~~ but at least Lily explain it.] Yeah. I wish you'd been around to tell me.

[Lily reaches beside her to sink her fingers into Harry's hair before hesitating, letting her hand land on his shoulder instead.] I wish that, too. I don't think any power on earth would have made not want to be by your side.

[Harry nodded.] Do you think James will come by? You haven't told him...have you? [Because nope, he doesn't know he's left yet.]

[Biting the words "that prat" before they left her mouth took her a moment, but Lily shook her head.] Not a word. Only... I'm sure he'll take it well. I can't wait to see the look on his face when he finds out we're your parents.

[Harry nodded, smiling, and looking more and more like his father as his smile turned into a grin.] Yeah. It'll be great. The three of us.

And I'll have two Potters to drive me out of my mind. [She matches his grin, flicking the hair off his forehead]

You love us really. [He said, almost an automatic thought but then the worry set in.] You do love him, right?

[She's expected that question from Remus, or even Black. The fact it comes from her future son takes her completely by surprise, and Lily can't control the heat that tinges her cheeks pink.] I fancy him a great deal. [She confesses, rolling her hair embarrassedly around a finger.] It can't be helped.

[Harry just nodded, playing with wand in his hands.] Okay.

And I love you, of course. Don't even doubt it.

[Another nod and leans into her slightly.] Think I can use this then?

You're a wizard. It should be natural.

Unless... Unless the town's hiding your magic for now.

Sirius said he couldn't use his. But you can use yours. [He shrugged.] Guess I'll never know.

It's a matter of time. [Lily rests her hand on the wand hand, patting it lightly.] I had my magic hidden when I first arrived here, too.

So maybe I'll get it back?

Maybe. But even if you don't have it now it doesn't make you any less of a wizard. You're born one, after all.

[Lily takes the wand gentle in her hand, placing Harry's on its center.] Every wand has a heart--a core. They say the wand chooses its master, so it must think you're special enough to have it.

And I like wands with good grips. Makes casting charms easier.

Must be a pretty good book.

Huh? [Harry looked up and smiled.] Yeah. It is.
