event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.

The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.

The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...

Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.

Better get moving.

Well, I have spent a few years doin' this kind of thing.

[Viktoria hangs out on the mountain by the portal entrance for a while. There are a bunch of large, green... rocks? at her feet, roughly the size and shape of a football. She offers one to you if you stop to look.]

[The alpaca glances at the man who'd trotted in the portal behind it and thoughtfully smacks its mouth for a few seconds.

It spits.

And turns its fluffy rear around. Presumably, this is Alpaca for 'yes'.]

[Anderson had been alerted to these... portals, and went to search for one. When he found it, he tilted his head and finally stepped through. This Mayfield place, was unlike anything he'd encountered... and he would have to get used to it.]

[At least for now.]

[At hearing the wolf howl in the distance, he merely shrugged it off. Looking to the mountain, and toward the forest, his eyes narrowed. Taking note of the others already climbing, he decided to lurk around the base of the mountain.]

[He'd get to climbing as well... but not just yet.]

[Gentarou is thankful for his jacket once that mountain air hits him.]

Man...it's colder in here than in the hutch sometimes...

[Green alpacha? Gotta be Beast Boy. Gentarou'll chase up the hill after him, calling out his name.]

Don't worry too much about the animals.

[Gah, it was cold. And Corran was wrapped up in these Jedi robes that barely blocked out the wind. The only thing good going for him was the stormtrooper chestplate which kept the core of his body comfy, at least.]

There are ways of warding them off without bringing them any harm.

[Wait. Hold on. She doesn't remember ever seeing him around before Saber got droned, so does that mean...? Yikes.]

Uh, I should tell you then that she doesn't normally act like that. However you might have seen her acting. She's been droned for a long time here, and she's totally different when she's not.

[Had he known, he would have brought a scarf. At least the school uniform is long-sleeved, so Minato's not freezing to death. He also came prepared with a crude sword by his side, his Evoker, some candy bars, and bandages.

He also still has 3x Snuff Souls, 1x Chewing Soul, and 1x Traesto from Christmas last year. Though he suspects the last one won't do him any good in this place.]

[Because hell, why not. She probably already knows about Rin's involvement anyway if she's one of her friends.]

[She trails off. Hold on... she recalls a memory, from when she first woke up in town. Talking to that red-headed woman, who said that Saber already formed a contract with someone else. The confusion she felt, before the woman mentioned Saber's name...]

Right... Though, uh, have you ever climbed a mountain before?

[Kariya lets out a sigh of relief. At least it wasn't the same one. That would be awkward, to say the least.]

Well, that's a relief. I'd hate to have to think of one of Rin's friends as an enemy Master. Not that my own Servant is here, I suppose.
