event: portal four | the mountain

The fourth portal, as might be expected, can be found atop the hill known as Makeout Point. The other side of the portal isn't altogether that much different from the side you're entering from, save for the thicker trees and somewhat darker lighting.

The other side of the portal is significantly colder than the Mayfield side; frost covers the ground, and although it's not quite freezing, you'll want to bundle up. A glance at the sky reveals what you might have been dreading: glitch holes, in varying size, litter the skyline. The sun is hidden behind a set of thick clouds, creating a melancholy atmosphere.

The landscape around you is relatively flat, and you can't see too far beyond the forest ahead of you. It isn't until you turn around, facing the portal that you entered from, that you see the rising slope of the ground. The mountain rises high, higher than you can see from its base. There's a rough, primitive path heading up its slope, and for now simply hiking will be sufficient. As you get further, however, simply walking won't be enough: you're going to have to climb...

Somewhere, closer than you might prefer, a single wolf howls, and is shortly joined by more.

Better get moving.

[Thankfully, Corran has the force on his side. Not only can he tap into it to refresh himself but he can absorb some of that heat and turn it into energy to use elsewhere. Which is exactly what he is doing.]

[Hajime's really glad he's got that bow out now. He's taking a few steps back himself as he detatches his belt buckle and slots it into the bow. Quickly, he draws a card from his card box, and he runs it through the bow.]

FLOAT

[The card becomes effective, and Hajime floats into the air. He's not sure how long he can keep it up nor if he can carry a passenger--he usually just uses the card to get a little altitude before dropping down on an enemy.]

Come on, I'm going to try to fly us out!

[Cade unfortunately didn't get to explore the mountain much because he was waiting to male a rendezvous with someone who never showed. But when the mountain starts to erupt, Cade moves quickly, looking for anyone who needs help getting back to the portal home!]

[But there's no point dwelling on that, so he pulls his shirt up to cover his mouth and nose, and isn't really wasting time talking-- it's time to try and help people down.]

[He waves at Steve just to acknowledge what he said, assuming (probably rightly) that they were both going to stick it out until the very last possible second.]

[From the angle that she's at, Natalie can't clearly see what Hajime's doing. It doesn't bear much of a resemblance to running away, though. She can tell that much.]

[Well, until he starts to float. She stares in obvious surprise, her own retreat stopping.]

You can do that?

[Not that she's complaining.]

Me too, but if we're in the northern hemisphere, we should be able to tell how far we are from the equator.

So if this place and Mayfield are a part of the same set of maps, maybe we can tell around where it's supposed to be.

[ Steve's tied his jacket around his neck and he looks like he's about to rob a bank. He doesn't think he'll be much help carrying anyone to safety, so he's just keeping mental note of who's already left and who might still be out there. ]

Are you keeping count?

[ He wants to compare numbers, because it's high time they got out of there and everyone's gonna need a doctor, he's thinking. ]

[The explanation doesn't make much sense to her, but that doesn't matter. He's floating! They can get out! She can not die!]

[And she reaches out and grabs a hold of his hand tightly.]

[Kariya comes tearing down the mountain as quickly as he can, holding onto April's hand as he scrambles back toward the base of the hill. Thankfully, they hadn't gotten that far to begin with, but he's not taking any chances here.]

[A steaming hail of rocks starts to rain down above them.]

As soon as he's got Natalie's hand, Hajime pulls her closer. Easier to fly that way.]

Just hang on. I've got you.

[And fly he does. He's booking it at Dragonfly Undead's top speed down that mountain. It's much faster than running, at least.]

Looks like you spoke too soon. I don't suppose you have any anti-lava magic?

[When she's close enough to lock an arm around him, Natalie does just that. That's much more stable than just holding his hand. Probably more aerodynamic, too.]

[Aaand the other arm goes around him, tight as can be. Closer is safer. She wants to feel safe right now.]

[Well, Nigel went up the mountain with his jet boots, and now he's escaping the same way. Although occasionally he has to swerve to avoid flying rocks, he seems to have a good handle on it.]
