[ If anyone has noticed Conan's absence from 915 Bilko Boulevard it will have seemed as though he up and a disappeared and has been missing for several days. The truth is, that after a truly unfortunate encounter he's wound up at the hospital but no one really knows that except for the staff and, of course Sherlock, being the person that brought Conan to the hospital. ]

[ During his absence he's been drifting in and out of drug induced sleep. However, he's feeling much better today, his body temperature is back to normal and his head isn't pounding like it was. The last thing he can really remember is that he wasn't thrilled about going to the hospital when that seemed a bit obvious. Well, he's still alive so maybe Gin didn't want to risk looking for him... that or he thought that there was no way Conan could survive long enough to get help... honestly, even he's kind of surprised he didn't just die that night. ]

[ Now that he can think clearly again he's laying back in bed with one arm tucked under his head staring at the ceiling and contemplating his next move. He needs to find someway to deter Gin from just attacking him again. He's not really in any shape to do anything immediately as he is still recovering from a few broken ribs and dislocated shoulder. Not to mention his hands and wrists are still bandaged. ]

[ He wonders if anyone's noticed his absence, if they had they'd probably know he was still around somewhere since people who were sent home ended up droned. His next thought is if they would bother to look for him... It was certainly possible with a few people... he's really glad Ran isn't here. She'd have torn half of Mayfield up looking for him. That thought in mind though, he manges to get down from the bed and find a phone. Not fun with broken ribs. ]

[ He'd better made this quick. If anyone tried to trace it they'd need twenty seconds at least. He has less than that to make his call. ]

Uh-hi! This is Conan...I've been gone for a few days, but don't worry, I'm fine. Well, I've got to go, but just know I'll be a few more days.

It has nothing to do with trust. This is the member of the black organization that force-fed me the apotoxin. It's his fault I'm like this. It's personal.

Oh yes, because when things are personal is when you are the most likely to think clearly.

[The sarcastic tone in his voice says more than his words.]

I'm not used to having much of a choice. I can't tell the police-someone is accepting bribes from them and the officer I told would just end up dead.

[He picks up the book again, because this conversation is going to go in circles.]

Why are you at the hospital? Have you been drinking the milk again?

Ah-no... Actually-[ But he pauses, he can't tell her about Gin. That might put her in some kind of danger. ] I was really careless and tripped down a flight of stairs- I only just woke up this morning.

[ Not that that explains why he doesn't want anyone to know he's at the hospital. ]

[That gets the biggest silence in the world]

Do you honestly think I'm going to buy that?

[ He's quiet a long time, just weighing things in his head ]

...If I'm keeping secrets it's because I don't have a choice. A tumble down the stairs should just be a tumble down the stairs.

I wish you'd understand I'm not as much of a risk as you think I am. We live under the same roof, do you think I'm going to just throw you to the wolves?

[ Occasionally the burden of keeping secrets is almost too much. There's a part of him that nags at his mind, begging him to just spill his heart out-to tell the next available person the horrible situation he somehow had managed to land himself in-to tell them everything about the black organization, about how it was like a black hole, destroying everything in its path. ]

[ But he can't. And it's a fact he's been well aware of for some time, so even if it feels like it's literally killing him, he has to continue to lie and play the part of the child that liked to play detective in order to keep everyone safe. ]

...it's not that I don't trust you. [ And it's not. It's just because he can't stand the thought of anyone getting hurt for his sake, especially when the whole mess was his fault to begin with. ]

[Sherlock rolls his eyes.]

None of us are home - our lives are already ruined.

[Maladict lets out a frustrated sigh. She's new to this. This caring lark. If someone had come up to her before she came to Mayfield and told her that a small part of her would enjoy stepping into the role of a 'mother', she would have laughed at them.

Well. No. She'd have punched them first and THEN laughed at them. It was a ridiculous notion, and yet, here she was]

[Mordin's scrubs were clearly not made with a Salarian body in mind, but there is an expectation that he shows up and wear them, so he might as well accomplish something with it]

[ Shinichi is quiet a minute, just staring up at the white ceiling ]

I hate seeing people get hurt. If there's anything that I can do to prevent it I'll do anything I have too... even if it means throwing myself in danger.

You don't need a reason to save someone's life.

[ There are somethings he's sure he'll never get used to in Mayfield. This is probably one of them. ]

[In other words, Sherlock is responsible for Conan's health now and he will ensure it any means he can.]

[Sherlock is completely calm.]

[His tone is lighthearted and he winks, but his expression after the wink shows just how serious he is. Really, challenging him on this issue is a bad idea.]
